I understand that teams in these contracts are paying for future production, not past production. If I’m going to give you like $100M, I’d like to have some past production. Patrick Williams has done some stuff, but like that’s just… if that’s the number, if that ends up being true and the Vassell deal ends up being the comp that his agents go to, that’s a lot of cheese.

Starting about 32 minutes into The Lowe Post.

I love Pat, but anything north of 100/4 would be madness.

[–] rolytron@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

100 years at $40k sounds about right lol

[–] george_costanza1234@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Isn’t 4/100 a horrendous overpay as it is

[–] BASEDME7O2@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Bulls fans have been hyping him up for years as this guy with major potential. He’s just not that good. A bunch of players that got drafted in drafts after his are all ready so much better than him

[–] Mtbnz@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He was the youngest player in the league when he was drafted and he missed almost his entire second year with injury. He's still a huge work in progress. That doesn't mean he's necessarily worth 25m+ a year, but it's not a surprise that guys drafted more recently have better production.

[–] Adventurous-Mud-8019@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I would say in the current it might be a slight overpay for his on court value, but the defense and somewhat consistent shooting alongside potential upside to get better might raise that number somewhat

[–] Faust86@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

$25m is going to be less than 15% of the luxury tax line next year and only going to go down. So no it really isn't an overpay

[–] Maverick_1991@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

10-15% cap for a guy that's a solid bench piece on a contender isnt great

[–] PJ_Reed93@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He’s still 22. A lot of guys don’t start hitting their stride until the middle of their second contract

[–] BaullahBaullah87@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Honestly…getting 25 mill a year is kinda insane, and I love the kids game. Realistically it should be more like 15-20 million a year for 4 years imo with the production he has actually shown.

[–] tdizhere@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Nah he’s definitely worth low 20’s imo. Decent role players are being paid 12-18 and Pat is still really young. 6’7, 42% from 3 and 22 years old is still promising.

[–] BaullahBaullah87@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Disagree but thanks for chiming in

[–] LogDogan4@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

100/4 would also be madness.

[–] beefJeRKy-LB@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

We're likely to give precious a 4/48 deal. I think 5/100 would be something to give him in your case.

[–] Ok-Philosopher9070@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Nah man $200m/10 years

[–] floatersforalgernon@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Like, what is he thinking he deserves: 5/200, $40mil per year? That's almost in cognitive dissonance category. jfc.

[–] iSionLLu@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

It says starts with a 2 and isn't 20, so presumably 25-29m/y?

[–] Long_Chance3583@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I read it as 200 as well. Thanks for clarifying

[–] abzftw@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Could just be 2

Lel

[–] ltDoBeLikeThat_@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (7 children)

“Wants big, big money starts with a 2 and isn’t $20”

This implies he’s asking for $200M

[–] not-who-you-think@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I don't think he is even eligible to sign for $200M in total

[–] YpsitheFlintsider@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I think that's just assuming the worst. Literally anything between 21 and 29 works for that too

[–] Spike_der_Spiegel@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

context wants to be your friend

[–] Gyshall669@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Further on they say “I don’t know if I want to give him $25M” and they use Vassell as a comp, who is making $27M a year. So yes, they mean it’s anywhere from 21-29M a year.

[–] faithfuljohn@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

So yes, they mean it’s anywhere from 21-29M a year.

at minimum it would have to be north of 25 since him getting $21M is close enough to 20 that it isn't something you make a distinction over. It has to be noticeably different to merit that kind of comment from Lowe.

[–] orwll@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No the other guy is right. Starts with a 2 and isn't 20: 25,26,27,28,29.

It's not implying 200 million.

[–] Lil-CBD@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

He is not asking for 200 mil. They're talking per year. That's why he referenced 20 per. Which is kind of reasonable, but 24+ isn't.

[–] 3pointshoot3r@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I don't really think 20/y is reasonable for someone with as light a CV as his.

[–] sonicshumanteeth@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

no it doesn’t. it implies he wants somewhere between $21m and $29m / year lol.

[–] doom32x@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Lol, he thinks he deserves that much more than Devin Vassell, lol.

[–] metroaide@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago
[–] CorrectionCreator@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

For what? What has dude done?

[–] bullpaw@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Large reason why the Bulls had a top 5 defense last year despite starting Lavine Demar and Vucevic, for one

[–] Mr89675432@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He's a solid-good option to throw on the other teams best offensive player every night but he was far from carrying our defense. No reason to throw Lavine whose improved massively under the bus for PWill either.

[–] CorrectionCreator@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

I will give you that he does play good defense. But a dude that plays good defense and has a poor offensive game is not a $20 million a year player. Those guys are out there and available

[–] atlfalcons33rb@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Stares in Dillon brooks lmao

[–] OnePointSeven@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

he was also the Bulls best 3pt shooter last year, and we ranked worst for 3pts made

[–] CorrectionCreator@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He still needs to shoot a lot more though

[–] Lysetto@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

By god, that’s Rudy Gobert’s music

[–] destroyerofpoon93@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

100 would be absurd too. Bro is like the 7th best player on a team that didn’t make the playoffs

[–] LarryBirdsGrundle@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Don’t watch the Bulls when they’re not playing the Celts but when they do match up I’ve never seen him do anything slightly impressive.

[–] destroyerofpoon93@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yup. He’s in the rui hachimura range if I had to guess: 3 yr 51 mill. And even that would be way too rich for my blood.

[–] Sy6574@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

100/4 is still kind of nuts unless he makes a leap this year

[–] Wild-Apricot-9161@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago
[–] ThisOneGoes211@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

We’re in like our 3rd year of hoping he’ll take the next step on offense and he just feels so reluctant. I agree 100/4 is the very max I’d be willing to spend
