"Beryl? Even our Hurricanes are gender non-binary now."

That's what he said in response to the National Hurricane Center posting the latest satellite image of the storm.

It's not nonsense. It's a sustained attack on both people and science. This kind of message brings the science deniers and bigots closer together, helping to shore up that base and give it common ground.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

It gives them a new point of focus rather than the record-breaking severity of Beryl this early in the year.

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 0 points 2 months ago

How is that sentence an attack in any way?

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 77 points 2 months ago

The liberals can’t even let you fuck the hurricanes anymore.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 70 points 2 months ago (3 children)

I kinda want to start a fake movement to rename hurricanes as "themicanes", just to piss off dipshit goobers like this.

[–] dogslayeggs@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

This made me chuckle. Thanks.

Related: my buddy was wearing a romphim the other day at a party. It's like a romper but for men.

People with "Jr" in their name don't get to make fun of other names.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 23 points 2 months ago

Especially when their dad doesn't even love them.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 39 points 2 months ago (2 children)

A couple of things:

  1. I've only ever heard Beryl as a woman's name, although I don't see a problem with a man or a nonbinary person using it. It's a bizarre claim though. It's like saying Mary is a 'nonbinary name.' Technically true because Donald is also a nonbinary name for the same reason.

More importantly though...

  1. Hurricanes don't have a fucking gender.
[–] FarmTaco@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago

I've heard some of them self identify as typhoons

[–] neclimdul@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

I see, We really should check if they see themselves as agender or nonbinary then.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 21 points 2 months ago

"Donald Trump Jr claims..."

Sorry, I stopped paying attention. But also, I'm not sorry.

[–] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 20 points 2 months ago (1 children)

DON’T FEED THE TROLLS

I usually say this about the comments, but this is about the article itself.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I would not say the most prominent LGBT+ news outlet is trolling. They report on bigotry. It's part of their job.

[–] fuckwit_mcbumcrumble@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This shit is what the Trumps feed off of. It’s what gives them their power.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They already have power and queer people need to know when that power is wielded against them. That nonbinary people are becoming as big a target as trans people is something that people, especially nonbinary people, need to stay informed about.

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

How is his saying this an example of them being targeted?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

You do realize he's complaining about nonbinary people's names, right?

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

And this guy saying he thinks Beryl is a non-binary name isn’t bigotry. Perhaps they’re targeting him for something else that he did that was bigoted? Did he do something else like that?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

This is the sort of thing that a non-queer person coming from a position of privilege would say.

[–] JimSamtanko@lemm.ee 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Why do we care about what that human-mouthed pile of shit has to say?

[–] HurlingDurling@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Exactly. Sorry OP but I'm downvoting this post because this turd sandwich does not need any clout.

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 13 points 2 months ago (2 children)

But is it weird? Beryl is a decidedly androgynous name.

What’s weird is that his saying this turned into a news story.

[–] tacosplease@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

There is a judge - Beryl Howell - who has given some (correctly) unfavorable rulings in Trump cases. Can't help but think he's talking about the name because of her.

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

Guess we’ll never know unless someone wastes the energy to find out.

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What’s weird is that he’s complaining about androgynous names. Was he born yesterday?

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Wouldn't their title be Monarch Beryl then? Also it would kinda fit in Sailor Moon since we had Uranus and Neptune being roommates together.

[–] loaExMachina@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago

Yeah, I'm just assuming "Queen" is their first name since that's how they're referred to.

[–] aramis87@fedia.io 11 points 2 months ago

Cokehead MAGAt says what?

[–] webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 10 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Good, all names should be non binary.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago

[angry high-frequency noises]

[–] Samvega@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Coercive human gender norms are to be consigned to the dustbin of history, either through progress or via the self-extinction of humanity. Whichever comes first.

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

Fucking amen. We must do away with all coercive approaches to cultural norms.

[–] cabron_offsets@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I never seen a hurricane with a dick or a minge, so…

[–] Shapillon@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

And gender has nothing to do with genitals...

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

minge lol that’s a new one for me

[–] BetaBlake@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Peak cokehead behavior

[–] Gerudo@lemm.ee 5 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Aren't the names decided like decades ago?

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago

Only for people who are decades old. For some babies, it was mere months.

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

The list repeats until a name is “retired,” as this one probably will be

[–] Fuzzy_Red_Panda@lemm.ee 4 points 2 months ago

It's always a little disturbing when clearly the headline must be from The Onion...but then it's not.

[–] Squirrel@thelemmy.club 3 points 2 months ago

Beryl is a mineral. There are definitely women with the name, and there are likely some men, too (though A Boy Named Beryl doesn't have the same ring to it).
