Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). 4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

it's petty, and it won't move the needle, but i find it highly enjoyable

“For Yelp to remain a useful resource to the community, reviews must be based on a genuine, firsthand experience with the business,” Noorie Malik, Yelp’s vice president of user operations said in a statement.

I would encourage you all to go take a closer look at Yelps business model. They are the most useless thieving rat shit company of all time.

They tried to steal from me in a recorded conversation, doubled down, then when they found it was recorded, tripled down because they knew no one would do shit.

Fuck anyone who willingly works there, and especially fuck anyone in their C-suite.

Oh man.

This sounds like this shitty "Chamber of Commerce" we have in my city.

They're a non-profit, and they publish a directory for local businesses.

I find it infuriating because if they didn't exist, nothing of any value would be lost. But because they do exist, you need to pay to be listed in their book, or else you'll miss out on some customers.

I stopped paying for the listing many years ago because obviously I don't want customers that need to look things up in a phone book, but they still grind my gears.

“Chamber of Commerce”

Chamber of Republicans, in my town.

Yeah. That's pretty much what it would be here too, I'm sure.

[–] whostosay@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Very similar, yelp is like a Mafia protection on steroids version of that. They will actively hide your company if you do not pay.

[–] antaymonkey@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Man that sucks. A Chamber of Commerce ought to do much more than that. For instance, ours has always been a great resource for us. Frequently it's networking events and such, but if we ever need anything, they find the people to help. When we needed capital they figured that out for us too. Our CoC has been an amazing partner for four years now and I highly doubt we'd ever consider leaving.

Well, there's probably people in my city that would say the same about our CoC. I'm sure I have a skewed perspective. They do have networking events but that's just not how I roll. I honestly don't know how helpful they'd be in other ways.

But... If you scored some business by being listed there, they're not totally useless?

Yes, the BBB model needs to die, but get customers however you can.

That's not really what I'm saying.

Yes, potential customers use their directory to look up businesses that provide services that those potential customers need.

Businesses need to pay to be listed in said directory.

If the directory did not exist, those potential customers would look up businesses that provide the services they need somewhere else, like they might google it and be directed to my awesome website.

Therefore, because the directory exists, you need to pay for it if you want those customers. If it did not exist you would still have access to those customers and would not need to pay.

Can you expand on this story? Super curious.

[–] uberdroog@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

They extort companies for placement and reviews. It has 0 credibility.

[–] pineapplelover@lemm.ee 1 points 2 weeks ago

Is there any other alternative to yelp? I use it cause when I go somewhere checking yelp review is pretty convenient. There's also stuff like tripadvisor and the Google one.

[–] BrundleFly2077@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

Ah! Right. So OP is probably a vendor, not an employee.

This makes sense to me now. Thanks for chiming in.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 61 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Hope the place gets shut down. No one should eat there no more. Just stop eating over priced cheap shit from McDonald's.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

Just go there and waste their time. Order ice cream. You know the machine isn't working.

[–] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

but that chicken big mac looks good tho.

[–] Speculater@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Stay strong brother.

[–] ProIsh@lemmy.world -3 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

No kidding! I never eat there unless the mcrib is in town and I eat like a damn pig. Man it's so good. Boycot up until then I say!

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

My local gas station has one that's 5X better and is cheaper.

[–] ProIsh@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

You lie with your hands. I won't stand here and have the mcrib shamed.

Is it overpriced? Oh yeah, all of mcdonalds is. Is it good for you? No sir, it's mostly cardboard I think. But does it make me feel good? Also no, it makes me feel like I'm watching a bad movie on repeat. Bite after bite.

I can't get enough of them. So good

[–] shield_gengar@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago

I want to hate you but you're so passionate about it, and I know that feeling. I eat taco bell.

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 3 points 1 week ago

I love your honesty.

[–] BruceTwarzen@lemm.ee 6 points 2 weeks ago

My boycott ends when they sell weird garbage, instead of regular garbage.

[–] AlligatorBlizzard@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

mcrib, eat like a damn pig

Is this cannibalism?

Are they trying to pawn off prawn prions now‽

[–] FBJimmy@lemmus.org 37 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yelp still exists!?

Who is finding a McDonalds location on their phone's map app and then thinking "I'd better cross-check this against Yelp first"!?

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] IsThisAnAI@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The answer is nobody.

Nobody is using Yelp to decide if McDonald's is for them.

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It comes up if you use Apple Maps to find food. They get pictures and ratings from Yelp still I believe.

[–] IsThisAnAI@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

And I'm sure that's they'll read the review and turn away 🙄

[–] splount@lemmy.world 32 points 2 weeks ago

Trump plays "worker" for a few minutes. McDonald's gets e coli. Coincidence? (Best read in the smarmy voice of Tucker Carlson or Jesse Waters.)

[–] Aeri@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Lmao McDonalds doesn't care about yelp reviews you don't eat at Mcdonalds seeking fine dining, you eat there because it's 2 am and you're hungry on a roadtrip or whatever.

[–] Weslee@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Not McDonald's - but I visited a city recently and looked up KFC on Google reviews to see what people were saying about the place, most of the reviews were negative saying how dirty the place was, so I didn't go.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago
[–] IsThisAnAI@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

I'm sure they are hurting real bad.

What a worthless waste of energy.
