Itβs sad that this is not obvious, but many people born in Russia do not support Putinβs actions.
The person you are replying to did not imply that all Russians support Putin.
The OP was concerned about hate toward Russians, and the comment I replied to said that the hate is justified, implying that the target of the hate (all Russians) is doing something to warrant the hate (supporting Putin).
This thread refers to another in which same users went as far as trying to provide scientific evidence that all russians are bad.
If someone was to say "Americans are trying to elect a criminal for President." That would be true. Even though, I personally, am an American, and I am not trying to elect a criminal.
Sounds like you're getting insulted by assuming people mean ALL Russians, when they really mean "this specific group of Russians"

Just a guess, but no? Insults are subjective I suppose and not being able to 'insult' a country or it's people would make many discussions impossible I think.
People should read the TOS more often.
Not sure. The content policy doesn't seem to be super watertight to me. You're not allowed to attack users or groups. And "the Russians" aren't a user. And I'd say it's debatable whether "group" means group of Lemmy users or group of people in general. They also rule out other behaviour against any living being, but insulting them isn't part of what's prohibited... Just proper harassment.
So I'd say it's not very clear whether that kind of behaviour is against their rules. If you're unsure, you can always flag a comment or post and let the moderators decide. They should know. And it's their job to make that decision anyways.
Many countries suck for various reasons. But the average citizen is just trying to live their life.
I agree with what you wrote but the situation will get worse over time in many social sites.

If it's ok for russians then it's ok for germans, indians, ukrainians and every other nation. If not, it's not ok for everyone including russians.
It's not ok for anyone and when I still to this day pay for things my grandparents didn't even participate in, the whole of Russia is responsible for the atrocities their country is committing. Rise up, get rid of your dictator and all his cronies, give back the land your stole, pay reparations and we're talking about forgiveness.
Yes, I feel responsible to make sure nothing like the rise of Hitler ever happens again here. Russians should feel the same responsibility.
Same goes for pretty much every country. You should rise up and fight your government who is beating and arresting climate activists.
