Summary

A hacker accessed a file containing damaging testimony about former Congressman Matt Gaetz, President-elect Donald Trump’s attorney general pick.

The file includes sworn statements from a woman alleging she had sex with Gaetz in 2017 when she was 17, corroborating testimony from a witness, and other evidence from a civil suit involving Gaetz ally Christopher Dorworth.

The hacked materials, which remain unpublished, also include unredacted personal information of witnesses and evidence tied to federal and congressional investigations.

The hacker’s motive remains unknown.

It won’t change anything. The pedophiles are in power.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 2 points 49 minutes ago

Yeah I don't even think they are going to do confirmations like they usually do. Trump already said he wants recess appointments and he always gets everything he wants from these idiots

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 6 points 1 hour ago

Publish it now

[–] TexMexBazooka@lemm.ee 30 points 3 hours ago

Publish or shut the fuck up

[–] MattTheProgrammer@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

It will change nothing

Witness prolly has the very real fear of “they release it, he gets confirmed anyway, Gaetz throws the book at him.” Easy for keyboard warriors to chide this person with no consequences to themselves.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 15 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe we don't doxx the witnesses, okay?

[–] whithom@discuss.online 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

So, just let him get away with it then? Because, Canadian, that’s what will happen.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 hour ago

No you redact it first.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 44 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

The fact that he's saying it instead of publishing is how you know he's not for real

[–] DScratch@sh.itjust.works 18 points 5 hours ago

Counter-offer: hacking wants that sweet sweet BTC payout.

[–] nutsack@lemmy.world 6 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

I don't think that would have the effect within the legal system that you think it might have

[–] whithom@discuss.online 10 points 5 hours ago

Can’t know if it isn’t released

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Still good to have it out there.

[–] andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 hours ago

Let it have reach and traction in a way it can't be ignored, can't be doubted.

[–] A_Filthy_Weeaboo@lemmy.world 43 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Oh please...let this be true...Let Gaetz squirm like the spineless pedo he is

[–] gi1242@lemmy.world 47 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (2 children)

he's not in the slightest bit worried. his boss got away with worse, and as long as he toes the line he will be fine

[–] justhach@lemmy.world 18 points 5 hours ago

Exaclty. Blackmail only works if the target has a sense of shame, and clearly MAGAts abandones theirs long ago.

[–] AbouBenAdhem@lemmy.world 15 points 5 hours ago

A file with damaging information about Gaetz?

Isn’t that like... any news article covering him?

[–] JCreazy@midwest.social 23 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

The hacker won't release shit. Nothing will happen. Everything will continue on like normal. We've been hearing about damning evidence about multiple people for years now. Here we are with none of it.

[–] justhach@lemmy.world 11 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Still waiting on that Redditor to reveal the gay senator he was having an affair with.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 hours ago

Ohhh, that fiction. I forgot about that.

[–] Erasmus@lemmy.world 21 points 6 hours ago

Release the pedofiles!!

[–] inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world 9 points 6 hours ago

This isn't a hack, that is just the cover for a leak.

[–] brezel@piefed.social 8 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Who cares anymore? You guys voted a criminal into power. Facts don't matter anymore.

[–] TexMexBazooka@lemm.ee 2 points 3 hours ago
[–] x00z@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Gaetz would have been around 35 at the time.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 hours ago

A child!

Meanwhile we're trying 10 year olds as adults...

[–] Rapidcreek@lemmy.world 11 points 6 hours ago

An amazing number of “secure links” sure turn out to not be that. Damn humans.

[–] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 hours ago

With all the shitty news out there, I'm begging the hackers to throw us a bone and release the files. I mean c'mon ... were dying here.

[–] nutsack@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

conservatives do not care about this. this is not what they care about. they don't care. it does not matter. liberals will never figure this out.

[–] andyburke@fedia.io 3 points 4 hours ago

We know they don't care. 🤷‍♂️

We care, that's why it's being discussed.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago
[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Smart, they can't smoke out the whistleblower if there is no whistleblower.

[–] TimLovesTech@badatbeing.social 3 points 6 hours ago

If released, I hope that the victim/witness information is redacted, unless of course this is a hack done by the Right to get the women's names out to the cult so they can do what the cult does best. =(

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 6 hours ago

Or Trump has someone from russia hack gaetz files so they can't be used in court.

[–] RattlerSix@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Sounds like a member of Congress getting ready to leak the report and blame it on hackers
