Summary

House Republicans, led by Speaker Mike Johnson, announced a new subcommittee to investigate the January 6 attack, aiming to challenge findings that held Donald Trump responsible.

Chaired by Rep. Barry Loudermilk, the panel seeks to reframe the riot as a result of intelligence and security failures, not deliberate violence.

This follows Trump’s sweeping pardons for all January 6 defendants, including those convicted of violence.

Critics warn these actions could encourage political violence, while Republicans claim they aim to "uncover the full truth."

Bro it’s like ALL on camera. All of it. There’s no more truth to uncover.

Don't trust your silly eyes... Please stop watching thousands of hours of Trump supporters recording themselves from every conceivable angle committing felonies.... You know what fuck you! -gop

Those videos were all deepfake antifa false flags produced by the deep state in collusion with the radical left!

[–] IphtashuFitz@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago

The only questions I really care about:

  • How many people were killed that day?
  • How many police officers were injured protecting the capitol and the people inside?
  • How many police officers took their own lives in the aftermath?
  • How much taxpayer money was spent repairing all the damage caused by these “guests”?

There's no such thing as "objective truth" under the violent control of the state.

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 10 points 12 hours ago

IDK if it's standard practice but every one of these panels should create a majority and minority report. The recent COVID pandemic report from Congress was laughable in its partisanship.

Ah yes, authoritarians giving the Capitol Building the Tiananmen Square treatment.

[–] sumguyonline@lemmy.world 87 points 22 hours ago (3 children)

People climbed damn walls. Cops were hurt. Government buildings were occupied by forces waving a confederate flag. I literally saw it happen live on TV. They have been pardoned, fine, that's the law, but don't lie with a committee about what happened. Spend that money feeding homeless and I'll move on, or do as they are doing and show everyone they don't care about the cost of food.

Republicans care more about Trump’s feelings than they do about their constituents, let alone the homeless and unhoused.

After all - according to the gospel of prosperity, Jesus said “fuck them poors!”.

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 12 points 21 hours ago

Fuck... Most of it was on video, because most of the Capitol has surveillance cameras. We watched it happen, live on TV.

The fact any of these vultures still have a job trying to claim otherwise just shows how effective Republican propaganda is.

It's all just so fucking sad to have to watch. And so many people that should have solidarity are being turned against each other AND falling into the trap of harboring anger toward other disadvantaged people. We need to keep the eye on the real war: class, not culture. It's the only way out. And the culture war hawks will be out in full force trying to turn the rest of us against each other.

"Hey guys! We won! We control basically all three branches of government! We can do anything we want!"

"Neat! What should we do first?"

"Oh, I know what! Let's revisit a settled issue and try to rewrite history though performative acts of phony investigation!"

"...uh, ok. But what's the point? We got everything we wanted. We can do anyth..."

"THEY HURT OUR FEELINGS GOD DAMN IT"

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 43 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

We all saw the damn video. You aren't going to erase or change what's in my head.

[–] itsonlygeorge@reddthat.com 13 points 19 hours ago

The Ministry of Truth would like a word.

[–] HappySkullsplitter@lemmy.world 26 points 22 hours ago

Republicans are always ready to rewrite history in their own image

[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 24 points 22 hours ago

Rewriting history in full view without likelihood of any consequence.

[–] KnitWit@lemmy.world 10 points 19 hours ago

These asshats are gonna come back and say ‘if this was such a violent event, why aren’t there any convictions four years after it happened?’

Jack Smith report on J6.

"Judge" Cannon: no can do. Can't release the evidence, just a brief synopsis.

Republicans sham investigation.

And who was in charge at the time there were "intelligence and security failures?"

[–] ZombieMantis@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

They try to lay that blame on Nancy Pelosi, as if she's in the chain of command.

[–] unmagical@lemmy.ml 1 points 8 hours ago

The ultimate irony being she is documented on that day calling everyone to try to get someone to do something about it.

Biden! The deep state! BLM!
