We know Wilt did it. There’s video evidence of him blocking the shot. What other players in history are capable of blocking prime Kareem’s skyhook

Wemby for sure. Dude is averaging 4 blocks in 20 mins. This dude would definitely smash a few back into the caps face lol

[–] StarScourge7@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Maybe wemby, maybe embiid, possibly giannis but that's it

Compilation of Kareem getting his skyhook blocked by multiple players

[–] domingodlf@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah, every player has gotten every shot blocked multiple times, no exceptions not even Kareem. Saw a dude in here the other day who genuinely thought KD's jumper had literally never ever been blocked lmfao

[–] CofTheEast@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Prime Dwight Howard could’ve got a couple blocks on the skyhook

[–] JKaro@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Dwight has an insane vertical for his height. He's def gonna get his touches

[–] NPCzzzz@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

With help defense I feel like more than you’d think but it’d get credited as a steal

Dikembe, Yao

Hakeem and Sampson blocked him multiple times in the western finals

Which was blocked more: The skyhook or Dirk’s one legged fadeaway?

[–] BoopasaurusRex_____@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I imagine Kareem took a lot more hooks in his day considering he scored over 50% more points than dirk. So I wouldn’t be surprised if he was also blocked more just due to volume

Dwight is think could do it.

Really anyone tall enough and athletic enough and they have to get the timing just right. That's a super super rare combination... Players like Wemby or Gobert could block it.

[–] LogDogan4@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah, the list of guys that could physically get up high enough is pretty long. Being in the right position, reading it quick enough and timing the jump is what made it so difficult.

Considering that they overlapped for a few years, I’d love to see someone find a video of manute bol doing this.

David Robinson is one of the most athletic big men of all time, I have to imagine with his athleticism, height, and defensive timing, he'd do fine against it. Others that come to mind, Dwight Howard almost certainly could do it. Giannis could probably pull it off, he's just so long. Probably Wemby but I feel like he's just cheating with his height and arm length at this point.

Nate Robinson.

Probably all of the very tall players (Bol, Bradley, Muresan, etc.) but Mark Eaton for real.

[–] AnyJamesBookerFans@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

but Mark Eaton for real

Not saying he couldn't ever block Kareem's skyhook, but coincidentally, Kareem broke the all time scoring record with a skyhook shot over Mark Eaton's outstretched fingers.

Together in a trenchcoat?

[–] babysamissimasybab@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

This might be controversial, but I'd put good money on Lew Alcindor.

Javale or wembanyama

[–] WrapInfinite8080@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I think Dennis Johnson got him a few times but from the sides or behind

[–] Devilsbullet@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Prime whiteside. Had his flaws but dude was a great shot blocker

[–] RegentCupid@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Ralph Sampson

If you’re tall enough and your jump hooks are already so hard to block is it worth going to the effort of learning the skyhook if your jump hooks or fadeaways are already efficient?

I know we’ve seen some smaller guys like Kawhi and Kobe occasionally get some leverage out of moving skyhooks but I think guys like Jokic or Embiid or even Hakeem are fine with regular hook shots and fades

Even old Dirk was fine with his fadeaway

Curious for people’s thoughts

[–] The_Nutz16@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Nate Thurmond was a hell of an athlete.

[–] hamalll@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Jericho Sims.

He's not a good defender but he's tall enough and boy he sure can jump.

Wilt did it, Artist Gilmore and Ralph Sampson both did it, I think Walton may have gotten one, though technically before it was that high up, so more of a strip than a block. KG probably could. Russel, without a doubt, the man had springs in his legs. Unironically, Wemby, his measurements are so similar to Kareem that he'd have the reach to block it. Manute or Mutombo wouldn't have much trouble. Robinson and Hakeem would spike a couple into the stands for sure. Potentially Dwight with his crazy vert

[–] indicisivedivide@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Bill Walton wouldn't let the ball go up. Definitely a smart move
