Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

If the magats didn't have projection they wouldn't know what to think about anything.

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 56 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I put novelty testicles on all my vehicles. Trailer hitch, rearview mirror, keychain, dick decals that say “CUM and take it,” but I don’t let the balls touch because that would just be gay.

When me and my homes touch tips we do this so we don't develop feelings

[–] spooky2092@lemmy.blahaj.zone 49 points 4 days ago

I always appreciate the

PEE PEE
POO POO

Bumper sticker on that one.

I've been told by conservative losers like this that I'm trying to force transness on them, no dumbass I'm trying to live my life and pass as a woman. The last thing I want is for people to see me as a trans woman.

The irony is that these idiots just like the comic, openly advertise themselves as conservative, they're making it a part of their personality.

[–] The25003@lemmings.world 7 points 4 days ago

What frustrates me this is that ideally people can be who they are (I feel like being gay/trans whatever falls comfortably in this, obviously we don't want Jeffery Dahmer types living their best lives) and this sentiment is so ubiquitous there is no compunction to have pride month, that sort of thing. However, I don't think that's the angle conservatives are atting this with thus creating the need for it. They did this to themselves with their bigotry.

I’m not gay, but as someone in another minority group (severe disability). I won’t make it my entire identity when I am given equal rights. Until then, it’s a big part of me, because I have faced a flavour of oppression that has shaped me in a certain way and can only really be understood by those in the same shoes as me.

Rules for thee, but not for me. But seriously, what you need to realize is that were in Mario land, and you need to play Luigi.

A couple of those stickers appear to be load bearing for a tailgate that no longer latches.

[–] yonder@sh.itjust.works 26 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Nah, that tailgate has just never been opened, and never will be, as a part of an ✨Emotional Support Truck✨

A magats whole personality is "stupid asshole"

[–] kersploosh@sh.itjust.works 23 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

The Calvin peeing window decal is the cherry on top. 🤌

[–] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 29 points 4 days ago

Only thing that's missing is The Punisher logo with the thin blue line.

[–] BossDj@lemm.ee 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Is there some metaphor there since the comic artist never licensed or approved those stickers and it's just stolen art?

It's not much of a metaphor. Before time began people associated their personality with their truck. This was commonly expressed by putting a decal on their gender affirming vehicle of Calvin pissing on another brand of trucks. This is the way they professed their worship of a car brand, heterosexuality, and sense of humor all in one.

Modern gender affirming vehicles typically use different decals, mostly so people are assured of the driver's heterosexuality, their support of fascists, and their willingness to shoot someone for any reason.

Hypocrisy is an expression of power: I get to do this thing, you don't.

A while back, I blocked the vegan community. Then I was curious if there was one for carnivores. Boy do those people need some help. Every post was just anger and hatred over vegans and vegetarians. It was wild. At least the vegans post recipes and other helpful stuff. Anyways, I now have both communities blocked and my subscriptions is better for it.

There is !carnivore@lemm.ee called Friendly Carnivore

It is against the rules there to ridicule other diets.

The main mod of friendly carnivore also runs !metabolic_health@lemm.ee which is about research on metabolic syndrome (high blood pressure, obesity, abnormal cholesterol, heart disease)

Lemmy.World closed both their vegan and carnivore communities for being abusive

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

honestly anyone who strictly adheres to a super specific diet (for non-medical reasons) is a bit of a ponce, it's like only wearing green clothes or whatever.
If you're going to be a pain in the ass every time you eat with others you better have a damn good reason for it, and "oh i read about this diet online" is a shit reason.

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'm the greyiest blob! Bask In my superiority!

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)
[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 1 points 4 days ago

Oh sorry, it's a joke about how some people love to make themselves special and will shove it on your face even if everyone is literally the same.

If from a children show. Fairly odd parents.

In this case it's diets. But it applies to everything. Can't believe I'm same species as these people but I am for now.....

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 2 points 4 days ago

f those guys too. I swear they exist solely to annoy vegee people. Like if no vegans would they even exist?

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

[–] jewbacca117@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago
