Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Up for it means you're enthusiastic about making an effort. Down for it means you are fully committed to a course of action. It's a slight nuance, but there is poetry in precision.

To know whats up, ya gotta be down

You screwed it.

[–] MelonYellow@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 months ago

You know what's up

A. Off is an autoantonym. You can turn a light off, meaning deactivate it, or you can set a bomb off, meaning activate it.

B. The worst one: inflammable == flammable.

Turn up the A/C. Am I...

  1. Making it colder?
  2. Making it hotter?

The debate continues to rage (in our house)

[–] toomanypancakes@lemmy.world 23 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I'm on team making it colder

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Ok, if you agree with this opinion, upvote toomanypancakes. If you disagree with them, downvote.

And afterwards we'll socially distribute their pancake hoarding problem.

But what if I disagree with your direction for votes? Now what?

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Then you need to fill out an application form to revise the voting schedule.

[–] naticus@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

I'm just going to proactively attach the addendum form that turns this into some kind of Schrodinger's cat voting system.

Best way to change one's opinion is to make them fill many forms

[–] ultranaut@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Colder. If you want it hotter that would be turn up the heat.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 1 points 4 months ago

I think the confusion stems from some people assuming an implied "turn up [the temperature of] the AC".

[–] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Are clarifying questions not allowed in your house? The temperature won't change instantly so the few seconds asking and answering a clarifying question shouldn't upset anyone.

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 15 points 4 months ago

You can fill in a form or fill out a form.

This is one of the 10% of showerthoughts here that are actually showerthoughts and not... something else.

English is a beautifully confusing language.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

Which is why I don't understand why my english lessions on cassette tape aren't selling! They even have a celebrity voice teacher to make it fun! Jar Jar Binks.

get up to get down

[–] ultranaut@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

You can also be up for it until you're over it, then you're not down for it.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 5 points 4 months ago

First you cut the tree down, then you cut it up.

[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

Get up for the down stroke.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

You can't get up come on get up with the sickness, though.

[–] darkdemize@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 months ago

Not with that attitude.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

I'm up for it, down for it, up for it, down for it. This is me jumping in excitement.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago
