two of my favorite players and power forwards in the league

as a big they are both mobile , can shoot well from ft and 3, have some handles and passing ability, can rebound and play decent defense

both coming of one of their best career seasons,

who would you take rn, Kristaps Porzingis or Julius Randle?

some quick career stats just for reference but their stats last year were generally better:

Kristaps Porzingis

19.6pts | 7.9reb | 1.9ast | 0.7stl | 1.8blk | 1.7tov

Julius Randle

18.7pts | 9.4reb | 3.6ast | 0.7stl | 0.4blk | 2.8tov

who u got?

Im taking the zinger. enjoyed randle in kentucky though!

Randle probably has more value and has been a 2x all-nba player for a Knicks team that made the playoffs in both those seasons. BUT, in the playoffs Randlehas been horrific. Think he’s like a 34% shooter in those 3 series. That’s like Ricky Rubio lol.

KP is so unreliable bc of injuries. But even if he only shot 3s, he’d shoot better than Randle has

[–] DrownedInBeans@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I mean it's not like Porzingis has been noticeably better in the playoffs. Porzingis is basically entirely unproven in the playoffs. So sure he could be better than Randle, but I'm not sure why we'd think it's a guarantee.

[–] archerarcher0@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah but I think the idea is that since neither have been great in the playoffs the guy you’d rather have would be the one that projects as a better candidate to take a back seat and play a role vs being the main guy

KP seems like he fits that mold better

[–] JoeyPeePee24@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

From a shooting standpoint only, it’s absolutely a guarantee. Randle has been one of the worst shooting big man all-stars that I can ever remember. We’re talking an almost 60 game sample size. Yes, KP is unproven but he’s a true shooter and could never build that many houses.

[–] jett1406@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Randle was getting tripled team after carrying the worst team in the league to the playoffs in the first run and was clearly injured his last run. he is genuinely one of the best shooting big man in the league

[–] Atl-Fan_FTS@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Randle actually

[–] The_Sign_of_Zeta@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

I don’t know how you don’t say Randle.

Porzingis might have the better statistical season, but Randle has had more impact years where he’s made his team better.

That doesn’t necessarily mean I think Randle is a player I want to build around or anything, but he’s had 2 actual legitimate years where he improved his team and made them matter. That’s two more than Porzingis ever had.

[–] archerarcher0@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

How would the bucks say randle? You playing him at the 3? Surely the bucks would rather have KP for lopez insurance since the man is definitely gonna regress soon

[–] junkit33@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

but Randle has had more impact years where he’s made his team better.

Has he really? He's a decent player but the advanced metrics say KP is a far more valuable player when healthy.

And it's pretty tough to ignore Randle's postseason performances at this point. He may just be a guy who struggles when defenses start putting in full effort.

IMO KP is clearly the better player when healthy. So if you're talking about ceilings of a player, I don't know how you don't say KP.

[–] SquimJim@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Not sure how you are measuring impact, but impact metrics favored Porzingis significantly more than Randle last year.

KP's health is a huge issue, but the one year he was healthy the advanced metrics would say he was better than Randle.

[–] Furiosa27@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Obviously some level of bias here but KP can’t stay on the court which has to factor in here massively. KP has played 60+ games twice and other than this year the last time he did it was the 16-17 season.

Randle has played in 70+ games every year he could and he’s been in 80+ twice. I think the ceiling on KP is probably higher but you’re very unlikely to see that and Randle has shown hes a star player. I think you gotta go Randle

[–] RageOnGoneDo@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

other than this year

Also like... he was on the wizards. Other teams aren't trying as hard.

[–] AgadorFartacus@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

KP has played 60+ games twice

Three times.

[–] natewOw@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

This is fair, but beware - KAT played 77+ games the first 4 years of his career, including playing in all 82 for the first 3 years, and after that he went 35-50-74-29. Which is to say that past durability is NOT indicative of future durability.

[–] Threeballer97@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Randle. If health is guaranteed, KP.

[–] zackaria00@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Randle

He has shown he can carry a team

[–] eggydoo@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

RN Porzingis is healthy so i'm taking KP.

[–] JAhoops@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

If i’m the Celtics i’d rather have Tingus but Knicks rather have Randle

[–] solo118@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The best ability is availability. Randle is always playing and always giving his sweat blood and tears. He is very passionate, and hates losing, so he does have his moments, but when he is on he is unstoppable.

[–] herseyhawkins33@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Randle by default due to health

[–] JoJonesy@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

If we’re ignoring injuries, it really depends on their role and the team around them. With injury history factored in you’d probably just take Randle though

[–] Realistic_Comb2243@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Bro really snuck in tingus pingus

[–] Dangerous_Toe_5482@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I just feel like Randle is almost a handicap to a team actively trying to win a championship. Needs the ball in his hands but hasnt shown he can be effective come playoff time. If im trying to take my team from bottom of the league to playoffs, Randle is that dude. But if I want a championship, id rather gamble on Porzingas’ health because he has tools that can completely elevate a team

[–] medievalmachine@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

JR all the way. There was nothing more frustrating than the immensely talented KP being injured so much. But I imagine Clippers fans would disagree.

I still can't believe Boston gambled on him. As a Knicks fan, I would have gambled on someone else.

[–] fetuswut@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Boston would rather have KP but Randle is 100% the better player

[–] electricHats75@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

As a first option or third option?

[–] OptionK@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

favorite players power forward league mobile handles passing ability rebound decent defense career …”rn”

🤦

[–] Kball4177@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Kristaps. I think a healthy Kristaps is capable of being the 2nd-3rd best player on a championship caliber team. I don't think any version of Randle is capable of being a top 2-4 player on a championship caliber team. He's too much of a black hole on offense, I think his ideal role on a contender would be off the bench.

[–] Goatbeerdog@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No1 is taking mr.hospital

[–] BobLobLaw_Law2@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No one is winning a title with Randle as their best player. At least there is a chance with KP

[–] SuckaFreeRIP@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Julius Randle

[–] RVAIsTheGreatest@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Depends on the team around each but I'd pick Porzingis in most situations and think he is overall the better player. Obviously the better shooter, better defender, and more malleable.

[–] Cohencides@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Why would you shorten RN… wow the season needs to start this post is just trash

[–] Fun_Location4905@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Durability wise: Randle Everything else including offense, defense, fit on any team: Zinger

For example, Celtics and pretty much any contender would not tolerate Randle’s lack of effort on defense and his attitude. He also needs to have the ball in his hands to score consistently. Zinger can find shots in the flow of the game when others are forced to give up the ball or when he’s battling offensive rebounds.

[–] CabbageStockExchange@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Randle purely for the fact he plays games. If both are healthy, the Unicorn

[–] jett1406@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Randle easy. The perception of KP and what KP really is are two different things

[–] jett1406@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Hilarious seeing a lot of Celtics fans who have never watched KP vigorously defending him
