Didn’t KG say Thon Maker would win MVP one day?

[–] ASithLordNoAffect@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Simmer down Paul

[–] betakurt@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

And they didn't get to his defense. I think he'll be DPOY this season. He changes the definition of an open shot.

[–] Dudedude88@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Spurs need to guarantee a tank somehow.

[–] swimb2w@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Being tall is not a skill how many times do we gotta say it

[–] thesonicvision@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Wemby is the real deal...In terms of potential.

But it's 100% true that he "hasn't figured it out yet." In other words, he's not sure what moves/strategies to use in order to be the most efficient and consistent. He's just displaying all the things he can possibly do on a consistent basis.

For example, can he make 3s? Sure. Has he shown he can shoot them at a 40% clip? Or even in the high 30s? Not yet.

I'm not buying anything on Wemby until I see him compete with the biggest and strongest in the NBA going at full speed.

Dude is a 7'4" stick bug, I need to see proof that his body can hold up after some physical play.

Sports discourse is so broken.

[–] BirdPerson107@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

These old heads high as fuck lolol

[–] GoatmontWaters@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

As they should be!! Their bodies are probably sore AF

[–] Marenum@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That's the least high I've seen The Truth in years

[–] n0th1ng10@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

They definitely have those glasses on for a reason.

[–] McWhorter44@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I just know most teams 6’6 forwards can’t dribble as well as Wemby

[–] yourstrulytony@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Easy to dribble when one dribble gets you from the 3 point line to the rim :)

[–] UnhingedSupernova@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wemby has a better left hand than Jaylen Brown

[–] DJBabyB0kCh0y@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I gotta better left hand than Jaylen Brown but I ain't dribbling a ball ya know what I'm sayin

[–] mug3n@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Sure, you're dribbling two balls.

Started as the stranger, ended as the lover.

How many people try out lefty and then stick with it? Me and my homie both did this and now I wanna know the stats

[–] kosmonautinVT@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I work my mouse with the right hand, of course I'm stroking with the left

[–] 3ThrowMerchant@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (4 children)

It’s weird that everyone is raving about Wemby’s offense when his defense will far more impactful, especially his rookie year

People are talking about him having an unstoppable jumper and stuff when he’ll likely be somewhat inefficient his rookie year

[–] Sairony@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The dude put up great numbers on league average efficiency in LNB Pro A just last season, a league which is worse than ACB which Luka dominated, never mind EuroLeague. Saying he's top 5 in the league rookie season is pretty much saying that LNB Pro A is just a small step behind the NBA. I think he'll put up something like 22/11/3 on average TS, compete for league leader in blocks, not enough for all-star and for sure not top 5 in the league.

[–] nbasuperstar40@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Luka was an elite team. Wemby team was mid

[–] Sairony@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Sure, but it's also a more competitive league than LNB Pro A, and EuroLeague even more competitive still, where Luka won MVP. And Luka didn't manage to make all-star his rookie season, and I'd say the all-star race is even more competitive than back then. I just don't think Wemby is going to play DPOY level D, bang down the PPG & box stats to qualify for all-star on respectable TS. But we'll see, it would be an insane jump from his last LNB Pro A season.

[–] SerialRapper@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Offense makes superstars not defense

[–] SaltyTraeYoungStan@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Wemby is the exception to that rule. Most of his highlights are defence for a reason, the shit he does is mind blowing. A super tall guy shooting or dunking is not that crazy. Wemby stealing the ball from someone in the paint while his back leg is nearly on the 3pt line, or him getting his fingers on a super high release, high arc shot from 6’7 Andrew Wiggins, that shit is crazy.

[–] UnhingedSupernova@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes but Wemby is like the defensive version of Steph Curry. He warps offenses with his presence alone

[–] T_025@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago
[–] wintertime0411@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

offense is more entertaining, not that weird tbh

[–] jaydizzsl@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

But Wemby makes defense super interesting to watch. How he gets these blocks is some out of this world shit.

[–] LifeDraining@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Bro, I know. Dude showing in preseason his ability to close out on a three from the paint with that length is scary.

And he will only get better. Even if he's trash on his shooting, purely on defence and then getting some easy dunks and fast break makes him an all star already.

[–] ObiOneKenobae@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

KG feels like a Keegan-Michael Key character

[–] Brad-Stevens@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Truth and Ticket always show love to the younger generations

[–] ForneauCosmique@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I'm all for it. Give me more Wemby

[–] utopianow8@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I think Wemby is 1 of 1 in the NBA right now. There's no one else like him in the NBA and that's what makes him hard to put in these top most skilled lists. People thought he might be a better version of Bol Bol but let's face it Wemby's in a league of his own already. His skills at that height are so game breaking that even a basic skill like a stand still 3pt jumpshot vaults him into a league of his own because who can block that or even bother his shot?

I don't think he's top 5 most skilled in the NBA right now, there are too many highly skilled players who are legendary already in their careers. But I would say that Wemby's combination of size and skills make him the most uniquely impactful player in the NBA right now if he can stay healthy. Wemby can be a better, bigger version of Giannis or Anthony Davis.

[–] Alternative_Lov@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Man they were spot on with literally everything they said

[–] LoWE11053211@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

right, top 5 skilled

NBA has all talent and no skill confirm

east ruled by a running and dunking guy

west ruled by a walking and passing guy

[–] nikop@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Pierces love his stupid hot takes. My favorite was his "it's over" after Boston won game 1 against the Bucks only to lose the next 4 convincingly and have Kyrie quit

[–] n0th1ng10@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Called Jaylen brown the best shooting guard in the league earlier last year as well.

[–] huelebishhh@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Spurs fans have to be in cloud nine listening to all this

[–] siphillis@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It’s okay.

[–] anderel96@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Idk about the others, but I sure as hell am

[–] kograkthestrong@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It's really nice.

[–] BabyHercules@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’m going to be watching a lot spurs games and highlights this year. Dude is must see TV.

[–] Buckus93@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Top five is probably a stretch, but it won't be in a few years.

[–] azur08@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The two worst commentators to ever do it!

[–] BodegaDaddy@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

they high af lol

they’re right though

[–] happyflappypancakes@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wearing sunglasses inside might be the lamest look out there. Does PP not realize this? Is he just loaded at all times?

[–] LifeDraining@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He's been known for being wasted on the air and that's why he started wearing them.

[–] hans_mcsplosion@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Did we just see Pierce and KG market-correct BS and Russillo? They use a bunch of the same goofy devices e.g. ‘Wemby can already be THE guy on the Spurs’ and ‘he’s a top guy in the league already’. And they’re both Boston guys (kinda)!

BS and Russillo just can’t match their knowledge/credibility, NBA connections, and (most importantly) intensity. Can you imagine Life Advice with KG?

It simply can’t be ruled out.
