Community Rules

You must post before you leave

Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Use content warnings and/or mark as NSFW when appropriate. Most posts with content warnings likely need to be marked NSFW.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Avoid shilling for corporations, posting advertisements, or promoting exploitation of workers.

Proselytization, support, or defense of authoritarianism is not welcome. This includes but is not limited to: imperialism, nationalism, genocide denial, ethnic or racial supremacy, fascism, Nazism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, etc.

Avoid AI generated content.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Wouldn't the average Lemmy DM be the "Fediverse Chick" that was getting spammed since that's likely the only DM most people have ever received?

[–] stray@pawb.social 14 points 4 days ago

I wonder how her studies are going.

there is far more spam than a single obvious fediverse chick on reddit

[–] burntbacon@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Huh. I actually haven't seen any mention of that since the community for reporting it / sympathizing/fantasizing about it shut down. Are people still getting them?

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 2 points 4 days ago

I may have gotten one or two after that but not many. And not for a few weeks. Maybe a few months now.

Hold on, there. You're telling me there are other people, on the internet, sending you messages, personally, not as part of a mailing list, just sending you messages? Is that a thing? Is that even legal?

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

How do I get you to send dog pictures without sexually harassing you?

[–] festnt@sh.itjust.works 25 points 4 days ago (1 children)

i was confused at first cause i thought you meant DM as in dungeon master

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 16 points 4 days ago

Looks like the Reddit guy thought so as well.

[–] kerrigan778@lemmy.blahaj.zone 37 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Where are all these dms you speak of?

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 34 points 5 days ago (1 children)

You haven't met nicole™ yet?

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 4 points 4 days ago

But you can call her the fediverse chick!

[–] GluWu@lemm.ee 34 points 5 days ago (1 children)

What is even the context of the first one? Admitting to being a woman on the internet?

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

being into horny talk with others, but not into cnc (many dudes have no chill)

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Can't even be cnc with a cold open like that, that's forgetting the first c!

Yup. Reddit horny dudes are infamously terrible at understanding consent.

[–] mossy_@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

just looked up consent nonconsent, makes sense.

roleplaying aside, the guy could at least be creative with it. they just asked for your info and called you a slave, give me some depth to the performance smh

edit: forgot the context

reddit and lemmy have dm's?

[–] rustyfish@lemmy.world 18 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Only found out on reddit when I got my first death threat. The first of many ❤️

Yeah, I basically only ever got hate messages on Reddit. The sole exception was when I posted about how easy it was to emulate older systems, and someone DM’ed me to politely ask for some setup tips for his grandson.

[–] HEXN3T@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

These are both pretty good convos not gonna lie

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

She's not into it in the first one. The aggression was unsolicited.

[–] moosetwin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 4 days ago

shitpost DMs incoming

I would send one myself but I'm too afraid of it being interpreted at face value

what I would have sent

either that gif or the fuck you baltimore fake ad

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 5 days ago

I will be giving support and kind greetings to those I interact with and shall not be stopped! :3

[–] Whazajottom@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I have no idea how DMs work here on mobile, and at this point I'm afraid to ask.

[–] zloubida@sh.itjust.works 7 points 4 days ago

You click on a username, and somewhere there's a link to send a message. I use Voyager, so it's hidden under the three dots.

Just sent you one :-)
