A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Low-hanging fruit such as random Twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Matrix chat.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified ‘western’ information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. E.g. screenshots, recent reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Matrix chat instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

11. No misinformation

NCD exists to make fun of misinformation, not to spread it. Make outlandish claims, but if your take doesn’t show signs of satire or exaggeration it will be removed. Misleading content may result in a ban. Regardless of source, don’t post obvious propaganda or fake news. Double-check facts and don't be an idiot.

Surely they're well into the twenties as to how many times this has happened?

Sounds like a list long enough to have a dedicated wikipedia article.

[–] Kwdg@discuss.tchncs.de 62 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Well they don't have a dedicated article, but a very long list in the warthunder article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Thunder

[–] BigDaddySlim@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

The fact that the wiki states that 2 of the leaks were posted just to win an argument is hilarious to me

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 34 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Oh no! The harrier? Did they get the specs for the Avro Vulcan? What about the Spitfire?

[–] AnAustralianPhotographer@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The details of the Boulton Paul Defiant mk1 might be floating around somewhere... And a Catalina too.

Again??? Christ.

[–] shininghero@pawb.social 20 points 2 weeks ago (6 children)

I've said it before, I'll say it again:

Lock the entire forum into read-only mode for a week, and plaster the leakers name on the front page as the reason for the lock.

[–] itslilith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 159 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

That's how you get weekly leaks

[–] robdor@lemmynsfw.com 30 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh that's how they got the name wikileaks

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

I am not sure if you are being serious or not so… Here you go…

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

frig off, barb.

[–] LaLuzDelSol@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah I'm sure Warthunder DOESNT want that to happen. They are a Russian company after all- I'm sure they want people to STOP posting classified documents of western vehicles!

[–] burntbacon@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Considering that they've basically said everything to stop the postings aside* from threatening to ban people from the game, I'd say they actually don't want the posts.

*They've said they will never used the leak material for game design purposes, and they also cooperate in the prosecutions of the leakers, IIRC with the nato/western leaks.

[–] mycelium_underground@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

If you're a Russian spy op you don't give a shit about using classified docs for improving the game, and once you trick an idiot into giving up classified docs why wouldn't you cooperate with authorities. It's not like you give a shit about some dumbass US airman or that you don't keep copies. If the they didn't cooperate they wouldn't have a chance at getting the next 15 leaks after the first one. You would have to be a fucking idiot to not cooperate and keep the classified docs rolling.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm saying the logic you used to come to that conclusion is deeply flawed.

[–] LwL@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

The reason the statement to not use them for game design purposes matters is that that is often the reason users post the documents. They'd have likely provoked more leaks if they'd stayed silent on that (even though it should be quite obvious).

Though also regardless of what gaijins intentions are, I'm sure at this point russia has someone watching new war thunder forum posts 24/7.

You're right. The people posting classified materials to a game forum for clout would absolutely hate if everyone knew they were posting classified materials because they don't want clout

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 3 points 2 weeks ago

Why would they, whoever "they" is in this instance?

why shouldn't warthunder instead just give them some in game currency as a prize instead.

[–] Coolkat@slrpnk.net 6 points 2 weeks ago

[–] rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago
