Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

idk if the “lie” claim is the best language they could have used since there seems to be a few sources supporting it https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Censorship_of_Winnie-the-Pooh_in_China

that said, obligatory fuck tankies but this is a good meme and fuck ICE.

EDIT CONTEXT: https://www.snopes.com/news/2025/06/25/norwegian-tourist-jd-vance-meme/

ICE and CBP claim the guy was denied entry for drug use. I don’t fucking believe them personally after stories like Khaby Lame essentially being forced to self-deport after some racist MAGA kid decided personally getting him deported was a good move.

But u know we all about honesty in this joint so

If you travel to a country that reads your phone (including the US, Australia) don't take a phone that's logged in to your social media accounts

Factory reset the phone, create a new Google or Apple account for it.

Leave them nothing to find. Feel free to log into your real accounts once you're out of the airport

Winnie the pooh is still censored in China btw

[–] Iceman@lemmy.world 9 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Winnie the Pooh is not banned in China, but comparison between him and Xi are cencured.

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world 14 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

It's much more than that cause censors are trigger happy af so basically anything with Pooh is 99% of the time censored.

Its wild to see people defend this

Its wild to see people defend this

they weren’t defending it they were engaging in conversation on a topic which they have a fractionally different perspective/use of the language than you

gyatt damb the internet is truly poison

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world -2 points 1 hour ago

Nah you're just sharing dictatorship propaganda be it willingly or unwillingly so go back to the tankistan please 🙏

[–] Iceman@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Wouldn't suprise me. Due to the meme status it would be usage has to be used more as a symbol for making fun of the goverment and so on, than fans for the books and series.

Still, it's not illegal. The twitter post is miss-representing the popular line, i have rarley seen any banned claims and far moee on the cencuring line. On a similar note i don't see a lot of defending of the policy either, so i don't get what that is about.

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world -1 points 3 hours ago

It is technically illegal too and all Chinese know not to fuck with censor machine if they want any career in their future as at any point CCP goons can come with all of the evidence and start throwing shitbat you getting you fired or worse. It's not some secret either.

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 29 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

sigh id love to move away from this fascist hell hole

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world -5 points 16 hours ago (5 children)

what's stopping you? I moved out of the UK after brexit.

[–] piccolo@sh.itjust.works 1 points 8 minutes ago

Let me guess... you moved to another European country where you had already had free entry into.

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 13 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

cats, fear of travel, ahdh/autism/bpd/mental health, family ties, money to travel (also being trans i wanted to go to scotland until you know) and i like a place that's much different than america and my pre transition self, culturally

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

fair reasons. I hope that you can get some help to manage these issues alongside the everything else that's going on

(also being trans i wanted to go to scotland until you know)

Oh I know. Don't blame you for no longer wanting to be a neighbor to TERF HQ.

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 13 hours ago

ireland is still on the list though! and Norway or denmark i finally went on a trip with my mum overseas to inverness/nairn in 2023 and loved it though!

... have you known migrants in your country to be privilaged? Usually racists are mad that a bunch of poor people are "coming" to their country, while some migrants are upper class, the majority are not.

[–] princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

Immigrants, in the modern age, are very much often privileged. Most countries won't accept unskilled migrants, or the disabled. Yes, they are not usually upper class, but being able to afford university-level education in a lot of places isn't easy.

Asylum seekers are the exception there, obviously. THOSE are the ones racists talk about being a "problem" most often, at least in places like Europe and Australia.

[–] Anomalocaris@lemm.ee 14 points 14 hours ago

there is an inherent privilege if you're able to leave.

not saying you're rich or powerful. just that there's indeed a self descriptive privilege if you an escape. unlike those who can't.

[–] lol_idk@lemmy.ml 10 points 15 hours ago

More than the ones who don't make it

[–] VetOfTheSeas@discuss.online 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Curious, where did you move?

There's a lot involved with moving out of the US. The easiest route is Canada. But trying to move to Europe is a uphill battle unless you're a skilled worker. Even worse in Asia, where unless you're there with a suitcase of money, you're probably going to be working from the ground floor.

Wife and two kids here, and I am looking for options but every where seems difficult.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (1 children)

LATAM's most liberal country. I wish you all the best, moving with kids probably makes this shit much harder. Although to give you hope, I migrated with my dad when I was 9, but he was settled in the UK before I moved to join him, and it wasn't too bad. You and your family may need to do something similar.

Best of luck.

[–] P4ulin_Kbana@lemmy.eco.br 1 points 2 hours ago

What is LatAm's most liberal country?

[–] user224@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Work, family, language, money. There can be many reasons.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world -2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

most of those reasons usually do not stop migrants. But I am asking them specifically to find out if it is a reason like that.

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 8 points 13 hours ago

most of those reasons usually do not stop migrants

literally false lol, especially the money thing. the wealth gap of my country is so intense few have the privilege of cash to uproot their entire lives, much less even afford the plane ticket.

[–] mr_satan@lemmy.zip 48 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (3 children)

Wait… "finds meme on phone"? Does that mean people are required to give phones for a check up when entering US?

incoherent mumbling privacy… more incoherent mumbling

[–] raltoid@lemmy.world 32 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

That's the tip of the iceberg.

They'll demand pins, passwords, blood sample, biometrics, etc. recently they demand that visa applicants set their social media profiles to public. Specifically to look for things like this.

[–] BakedCatboy@lemmy.ml 11 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Apparently they also demanded his phone password with the threat of a $5k fine or 5 years in prison. I always thought you had the right to stay silent when it came to passwords but idk if that's any different since he's Norwegian. Shits fucked.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 12 hours ago

Yea that threat is a lie. Cops lie.

[–] Laser@feddit.org 7 points 20 hours ago

Have been for years

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 12 points 16 hours ago

Looking at that photo makes all those times I ever felt bad for Humpty Dumpty completely fade away.

70 citizens deported, likely more

nursing mothers separated from their kids

elderly people in wheelchairs zip tied for demonstrating for lifesaving medicaid

[–] reallykindasorta@slrpnk.net 6 points 12 hours ago

Citizens arrested for protesting genocide

state sponsored masked thugs roaming the streets intimidating and kidnapping people

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 14 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Solution 1: don't go to fascist shitholes.

Solution 2: have a burner phone if you can't avoid it.

[–] reallykindasorta@slrpnk.net 3 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

“Sorry I can’t sign into my accounts I have 2fa but left my other phone at home because it has no coverage in the US”

[–] VetOfTheSeas@discuss.online 3 points 10 hours ago

A decade ago, Australia rolled out where they have a right to check your phones and laptops. So company trips, it was always recommended to bring burners/reformatted devices. So that's been my norm.

I've been doing that for years and would strongly recommend it.

[–] NoForwardslashS@sopuli.xyz 28 points 21 hours ago

That's some commitment to getting the Vance meme into every news outlet.

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 12 points 19 hours ago

why is that picture staring into my soul like a chucky photo?

[–] Sibbo@sopuli.xyz 34 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Is he now in some prison in central America, or did he go back to Norway?

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 35 points 23 hours ago

updated. to answer your original question, he was denied entry which is not deportation. so he’s in norway.

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 13 points 23 hours ago

oof there’s a snopes post let me update the description
