Rules:
1. Be civil

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.
How can trumpers not see that ICE is pissing our money away just to torture good people?
Trumpers only see Trumpers as "good people." if they could press a button and watch everyone around them who isn't one die in agony for the schaudenfreude of it, they would.
That's why they're trying to turn empathy into a character deficit and slur.
This is what separates them from everyone else. I'm an extreme leftist, something some low information Americans incorrectly paint as just as extreme as the MAGA cult, when I want that MAGA cult to have access to Healthcare based on need, higher Ed based solely on merit, conditionless housing and social supports, while they want me dead, and preferably painfully.
I pity them because they were made by for profit media propaganda meant to divide and profit.
The really stupid thing is, this woman might have been pro-Trump, there are other minorities that are. Trump people are so short sighted.

They don't actually care about pissing money away. They enjoy good people getting tortured because they hate them and do not see them as people.
They do see them as people, but specifically bad people. A non-person would be beneath their notice. A bad person on the other hand, becomes the target of their wrath and cruelty and it is justified to do this to them because they are bad.
Racism.
They enjoy the torment. They're sadists.
It's your money they're using, so why would they care ?
The Trumper cult will hate and kill at any cost. That's their main MO, hatred and to inflict pain. They are 100% objectively bad people.
In a lot of situations there are just good people in bad situations, but no, these are, by any measure, simply bad (sub)humans. They are irredeemable sociopaths and a net negative on society.
Democratic administrations actually deported more people than Republicans. But the difference is that Democrats do so with case by case consideration and by the book; Republicans, meanwhile, wants to do away with the bureaucracy and blanket deport anyone who have any iota of questionable immigration status. This is precisely what Trumpers want-- get rid of people they don't like by doing away with the rules that hinder their desires.
I don't understand why they denied her asylum. The case seems really straightforward.
Likely because her reasoning and fears were at odds with our geopolitics. It'd be like us accepting South Korean refugees for their fear of North Korean reprisal...if North Korea had largely been subsumed and the war was over for several years.
Your analogy makes no sense. This woman came here in 1978 and the Shah was booted in 1979. It is entirely believable that she would have faced reprisals in Iran during the massacres of 1981.
I don't know why this woman was denied asylum but her request was well justified by events.
She first came in as a student in 78 but applied for asylum later. And that kind of thing can take a long time to process, years even.
To put it more directly, accepting her request would be a tacit admission that US foreign policy made Iran a more dangerous place, not by accident, but as a side effect of its success.
The US has swaths of Iranian refugees both new and old. They probably ran her claims and determined that she would not be in direct danger. I have been heavily involved in the refugee community for a long time.
She arrived before the Iranian revolution. Going back after the revolution with a Western education means at the very least she would have been deemed very very very suspicious. And why would a new paranoid religious government take the risk at all? Easier to purge.
She wasn't a white South African. 😐
