so instead of making a post about Europe you made another post about America?

plonker

[–] morphballganon@mtgzone.com 2 points 11 minutes ago

Should the rest of the world have ignored Germany in the '30s?

[–] Lightsong@lemmy.world 1 points 4 minutes ago

Yep, I've posted a thread asking for some statistics for some global average of something that I couldn't find on google, and some guy linked me a statistics based on US. Smh.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 1 points 4 minutes ago

I try to remember that Lemmy’s reach is worldwide, not just full of Americans. When I make a mistake, I think “well, people just assume Americans are ignorant and arrogant anyway, so…”

Um Bugs Bunny is American!

You can take a horse to water…

[–] doomcanoe@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 minutes ago

...but you can't make it think

[–] pH3ra@lemmy.ml 0 points 41 minutes ago

Why do you think they get along so well with zionists?

[–] GoddessGundy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Will do sir.

  • Sincerely, Poor bitch trying to fucking off even more for this poor guy for some reason.
[–] selfdefense420@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

aw, it's like a bunch of dudes with tiny penises coming together for mutual sympathy.

[–] Codpiece@feddit.uk 0 points 56 minutes ago

Ah come on, they can’t help it. Most of them literally don’t know anything else.

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 hours ago

We will literally go to war with everyone else in order to ensure that everything is always about us

[–] burgerpocalyse@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago

im sure theres plenty of non English speaking communities that never mention anything US related for you to browse

[–] cRazi_man@europe.pub 17 points 8 hours ago (7 children)

Lemmy has been one of the best places online for toning down the American emphasis (although I think my blacklist keywords filters help a lot with that.... Highly recommended).

Lemmy has better European/Australian representation, but there isn't much Asian or African representation though.

[–] zaphod@sopuli.xyz 17 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Honestly no, I think it's worse here. I blocked so many communities because they're just about US politics, but that stuff is still everywhere, even in generic meme communities.

[–] Lv_InSaNe_vL@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago

It's not even Americans talking about American politics either haha

[–] cRazi_man@europe.pub 5 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

Must be my filter list then..... 200 blocked communities (mostly porn though) and 50 blocked keywords.....and increasing.

[–] TomasEkeli@programming.dev 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

please share this list of words and communities!

[–] cRazi_man@europe.pub 3 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

It won't let me copy/paste the list out of this boost app. As you come across content, keep adding words that are specific to USA (e.g. Trump, POTUS, senator, constitution, NBA, superbowl), don't add words that are likely to catch other content from other parts of the world (e.g. president, democrat). Communities should be self-evident that are focussed on American content.

I refuse to use any social media app or news app that doesnt have a blocklist. I'd recommend Boost for a Lemmy app and Pluma for an RSS news app.

I probably see more American content than I am putting across, but with training my brain to skip/ignore American content, I'm not too bothered by what I see now.

I would also recommend blocking other things you might fond repetitive or annoying (I don't want endless content about Israel, Ukraine, police brutality, Apple products, etc) and I block all of this stuff too. Lemmy has enough content now to still show plenty of posts with all that blocked. You just need to be sure to browse "all".

I think reddit was more diverse, many local communities, language specific communities, etc.

[–] mgnome@piefed.social 1 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (1 children)

Yeah, but enshittification started getting to Reddit and it was a wise choice to not stay to see how it goes further, as it will become more and more corporatized.

With Lemmy my problems are only with opinions developers have (spoiler: pro-Russian tankie transphobes). But idea of Lemmy and work put into it still deserve respect.

So as for now I just hope my compatriots will catch up on Fediverse eventually (Mastodon is already quite popular).

[–] Tja@programming.dev 1 points 3 hours ago

Sure, I was just commenting about the us-centricity of lemmy.

the poorest europoor is now Hungary. What 20 years of autocrat oppression does to a nation (I really hope you can beat his party at next elections, good luck from Germany <3)

[–] random_character_a@lemmy.world 11 points 9 hours ago

Well at lest he can't pull the Aljaksandr Lukašenka stunt and refuse to recognise the election result and have the Russian army march through the country when the people rise up.

Might have been an option if Ukraine had fallen.

...

[–] Bluewing@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

Then don't be such an enabler europoor.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 82 points 12 hours ago (10 children)

I like how this meme said America twice proving that it is the greatest nation on earth and probably the universe.

[–] rc__buggy@sh.itjust.works 48 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I appreciate how the europoor made this meme about America.

USA! USA!

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 25 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I hope one day they get to visit our glorious nation and get a taste of real freedom.

[–] django@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I am not going to take a plane across the ocean, just to get imprisoned, tortured and deported.

Unfortunately America is relevant to most of the world rn. Wish it wasn't though

[–] edupo@europe.pub 1 points 1 hour ago

Agreed! Probably everyone would have done better without them :)

[–] obinice@lemmy.world 7 points 6 hours ago

It's relevant, yes, but not the center of every single topic or event they is happening or exists anywhere.

Go online however and you'd think it were.

The bigger problem is their assumption that their country is the "default" country. Discussing something highly specific to your nation, or posting a news article covering a topic that is only relevant within your nation? You need to provide the context of what country you're talking about, otherwise people might be confused or waste their time reading something irrelevant to them. Over and over.

... unless it's about the USA of course, then you don't need to give any context at all because of course the only people they use the Internet are Americans, and obviously the only country worth talking about is the 🇺🇸 US of A! 🇺🇸

This is highly encouraged in places like Reddit, where communities like /r/news or /r/politics are actually local national subreddits just for the USA, but because they're special little darlings they use the format that should be reserved for all news and political discussion, rather than a more appropriate and descriptive title like /r/usanews or /r/usapolitics, which would actually be... you know... descriptive and helpful.

That's not even mentioning the number of times some random person has used code/abbreviation to describe where they are to lend context to a conversation, but failed to take into account that people outside of your country don't know your local regional internal place names.

Oh, you're from ML? OH? TA? Great, that provides precisely zero information because those aren't country name abbreviations. Oh, you're from London which is all the context you think I need? Okay, I know Lo...oh, London.... Texas? 🤦‍♀️

So many wonderful people in the USA, so many fantastic people who don't have any of the traits I've described, I just wish the ones strutting around acting like they're the only country in the world and on the internet would open their eyes to how that sort of toxic personality trait looks to, and affects others :-(

My grocery store has an icon on products that have tariffs on it, aka u.s. only. With maple leaf symbols on stuff made, or packaged in canada.
