He's averaging 20.5/5.2/3.7 on 56% TS this season. Solid numbers but not what we have come to expect from him. Instead of playing like the superstar he once was, he's playing like a glorified Khris Middleton.

He's 32 which is right around the point where a lot of stars fall off anyway. Did his latest injury in the playoffs end his prime?

The me what has really slipped is his defense. He is still big, has long arms and giant hands, but for some reason he doesnt feel like the claw anymore.

[–] IsaacDPOYFultzMIP@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He’s being James Hardened

[–] DrForskin@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He’s sharing the “load” with Harden, Paul George and Westbrook of course his numbers are going to be lower.

[–] EarthWarping@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

As a top 5 guy? Probably.

As a top 10 guy no.

[–] Schwalm@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I don’t think you can call someone washed that got destroyed by injuries

[–] OrderflowTrader@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Hard to say. He's spent a big portion of his career "resting". Had some great playoff runs so if we're comparing these stats to those moments of greatness, then maybe.

[–] DrunkPirateHunter@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He just came from a knee injury so

[–] KingNephew@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I thought so for a little bit last year when he came back then he went berserk for the 2 healthy games he had in the playoffs.

I don’t think Kawhi will be washed for a few more years, his body just keeps failing him.

[–] Desafiante@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

32, tons of injuries... I guess he's still good but will never be old Kawhi. Can show some glimpses, though. For some stretches people are gonna say old Kawhi is back, but it is not gonna be consistent, like for a season or a chip run.

Also the lack of intensity and continuous high level play will make him decrease a lil bit. It's not that he forgot, but he will be less practiced.

[–] siphillis@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Kawhi peaked all the way back in 2017 and emptied the tank in 2019.

[–] DA_ReasoN@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He was never the same after your boy closed in on his landing space in that first game of the series where he was absolutely torching you guys. So sad that happened.

[–] Most_Bass6372@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

y’all do this every season i swear

he’s a notoriously slow starter and then come December all the way through the playoffs when he’s averaging 30/8/4 on 68% true shooting everyone is suddenly shocked

[–] zogurat@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Given the nature of his injury, he's probably nearly there. Maybe a few old flashes left but I can't see him going off again like he did a few years ago for us.

[–] agk927@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Not all the way, but it's bound to happen at some point soon

[–] Cherry_Caliban@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Not according to all the rankings, for some reason, he is still ranked top 10 over a bunch of other stars who have actually played regularly over the last few years. He is riding on reputation.

[–] Subredditcensorship@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I think his style of play requires a lot of effort and exertion and in the regular season he won’t have it anymore. But in the layoffs I think he can still be dominant. Kind of like Jimmy butler

[–] Final-Luck-4222@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

What's your definition of washed.

[–] upsups91@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Id say he is still good but not carry team alone kind of good

[–] LegalEggplants@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He’s a not a regular season hooper, hard to say

[–] pinktwhite@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Over the hill and past his prime? Yes. But washed should only be reserved for players that are complete buns and shells of themselves.

Like Derrick Rose is washed but Kawhi is still a starting caliber player.

[–] Free_Relationship692@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

decline, washed is when they are putting 10/5/2 in 20+ mins.

[–] siphillis@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

And also completely unable to play the game the same way. Like, Kawhi would be washed if he couldn't play defense, either.

[–] B_C_W@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He could be Clyde Drexler to Hakeem. I think.

[–] aaden08@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I mean inserting someone like Harden who needs the ball all the time to either play make or score is kind of going to cause numbers to dip

[–] WiIIemdafoe@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Compared to what he used to be? Absolutely, I said this before last year and got heat for it. Injuries don't get better with age.

[–] WernerHerzog69420@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago
[–] noknownothing@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He just doesn't give a fuck.

[–] Khione_Asteri@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

people asked this exact same question when he started playing last year too. had like 10-20 games where he looked bad, then it was like a switch flipped and he shot high volume 50/50/80 splits for the rest of the year

he looks significantly skinnier. he’s probably having to readjust to getting to his spots without as much muscle to help bully his way there.

kawhi loves playing basketball. he’s obsessed with it like all the greats. that skill is not gonna go away

[–] mxgicjohnson@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Shot hasn’t fell as much and the new “system” isn’t helping

I think he’s taken a step back to let PG and the other guys carry a bigger load cause he’s been a carry job for the last 4 years

He could certainly be “the guy” but it’s not the playoffs so he probably doesn’t care.

[–] EchoBay@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I would wait a few months before saying anything more definitively in either direction. If he came out of the gates hot, all people would say is that he'll be injured the next game, and it'll mean nothing. He could have a hyper efficent game tonight, and this post will look ridiculous.

Ten games in just isn't a large enough sample size to determine anything, frankly. I know people love being reactionary and in the moment, but the NBA season is a journey, not a sprint.

[–] Sad_Conclusion8488@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Too soon to say IMO. He might be holding back a bit until he figures out how things can best work with Har_en. Or he might be done. We should know soon enough.

[–] oshinla@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

not washed but kawhi doesn't care. he got his hardware and is having fun. he wanted to play back home with no pressure. if he wanted to win, he would have chosen the lakers or stayed with the raptors.

[–] desirox@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He isn’t washed but I’ll say he definitely ain’t the same player

[–] AlonsoCaGi@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

what surprised me was that he has no lift whatsoever, like legs are done. He's still a great player but the physical aspect of his game looks like is taking a fairly sharp decline.

[–] tigerpawn@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He'll be rejuvenated when the Warriors trade for him before the deadline

[–] LoveIslandFansRawk@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Kawhi bossed out after load managing half of last season into a non-contact injury after 1 full playoff game. After that Toronto championship, he's chillin like lil b TYBG wearing the same vans for 10 years now, he stopped giving a fuck, thank you based whi, he gave us enough greatness for 5 entire careers and then was like fuck it I'm rich bitch

[–] yowassupyo@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

well since being a clipper his game has mainly been: get him the ball in the post and he will hit those midrange jumpers. they are doing less and less that. i think he could still put up better numbers than last year with that playing style.

[–] LoveIslandFansRawk@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He's Kawhi-et quiting :)

(I already commented on this thread, but this deserved its own, oh my god posted on a thread twice... twice as nice... get caught up in my blade, might get diced)

[–] hansislegend@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Washed is a stretch. He’s still really good.

[–] Senior_Apartment_343@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

If he wasn’t checked out before, playing with Harden will definitely check him out

[–] Secret_Poem8814@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

10 game sample size with those stats and he’s washed? No. Over the hill, I think so, not washed quite yet.

[–] ilovevino-@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Let’s wait for the playoffs before deciding for it

[–] OrderEducational6547@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He shouldn’t have left San Antonio…

[–] Particular-Hawk2424@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Raptors kawhi was his peak..if he didn't win that ring we would be saying he was a spurs system player.. dumb decision going to LA coulda easily repeated in the bubble with raptors who won 53 games that bubble year.. won 58 wins the chip year 17-2 without him lol and before he came won 59 with demar derozan.. kawhi should thank canada he been a rip off for the clippers lol

[–] deanross102@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Is kawhi washed? He has 3 other stars with him and theres one ball. He is far from washed

[–] Downtown_Weird6823@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago
[–] aj2704@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Kawhi is a God, against the Lakers.

[–] grimmjow003@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago
[–] hausitron@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I better not hear Kawhi Leonard compared to LeBron again, or I'm gonna kill somebody

Kawhi's body was done after the 2019 championship. He went to LA to retire.
