Although I have accomplished quite a bit in my short lifetime, I’m going through a stage where I feel like a loser.

I’ve been slacking off and honestly kind of board with my business. It’s at the point where I can get by without doing much work.

Everytime I come back to my hometown my family just doesn’t get it. They don’t understand my entrepreneurial mindset.

I’m 21 years old and I’ve built an online fitness coaching business.

I’ve generated multiple six figures over the last 2-3 years.

I decided I was finished with college after my freshman year and wanted to pursue my business all the way.

I moved to San Diego and I’ve been there for about two years.

Although most people would say you’re doing amazing and killing it.

I know I could be doing better.

I want a bigger opportunity, I want to work harder, and develop a vision so huge it scares me.

I feel like my next evolution is coming up but right now I’m in the growing pains where I feel a little lost and unsure of what’s next.

I have a few ideas and I’m testing out the market for them but it’s an uncomfortable period.

I feel like I’m just coasting and not growing. It’s not a fun place to be.

Any advice?

Do something you never did before, try different sports, activities with the loved ones or friends.

Take some time off and just read and observe. You would be amazed how many things (new things) you will notice.

But do not react to all of them, the right idea will catch your attention and you will know when to move again in the right direction.

Good luck

Feeling a bit lost is part of the journey sometimes... But not bad what you've achieved by 21, you should be proud! Whatever you do, as long as you stay true to your mind you're good! Be proud of yourself dude, you can always do better, but don't be too harsh on yourself!!

[–] Simon_Small@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You are leveling up is all. This dissatisfaction that’s getting you feeling like a loser is making you really drive yourself to the next level. It means you have awareness. That fuels your growth!

Could you explain more why you feel like a looser? From my personal experience surrounding yourself with right people helps a lot. Also doing external activities you like can really help clean the brain.

Hey there,

Firstly, kudos on the incredible achievements at such a young age! It's totally normal to feel a bit lost even when things are going well. The fact that you're recognizing this phase and actively seeking growth speaks volumes about your commitment.

Consider this period a necessary pit stop on the road to your next big thing. Explore those uncomfortable feelings, test out those ideas, and embrace the uncertainty. Growth often emerges from the discomfort of change.

Remember, it's okay to feel this way, and it's a sign that you're ready for the next chapter. Reflect on your journey, celebrate your wins, and let that entrepreneurial mindset guide you towards your evolving vision.

You've got the drive and ambition; trust the process, and the next big opportunity will reveal itself. Keep pushing, stay passionate, and don't forget to celebrate the journey.

You're on the right track—keep moving forward!

You're no loser. To me it sounds like the opinion of your family means a lot to you (which I get) but them reacting the way they do, kinda weighs down on your own self worth. Because of that you feel like you're not doing enough. I'm the exact same. I'm 30 and I don't even make close as much money as you. Still I have my small art business I'm very proud of and I taught everything myself. My family doesn't get that either. What i did is to stop telling them about it. Stop telling them about my successes or my failures. When they ask me I just say it goes well. That's it. It prevents getting their negative Input that im sensitive to.

If you have enough money to do what you like If you enjoy your work And if you have the freedom others can only dream of, then you've already achieved more than you might think. And you're very young. You've got so much waiting for you, just let it unfold and don't force things. Life's not supposed to be hard af and draining. That's just the system teaching us.

[–] Swapnanil_Park@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’m not very good at advising but I’ll say you may want to try out things that are absolutely new to you.

[–] Bbabel323@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You are very young and have achieved very much. You have to sit back from time to time and enjoy your results, or else, why the fuss? 100 years from now nobody will care about us or our ROI, ROAS, breakeven and so on

[–] TheRuss16@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Where's the problem here?

[–] pac_44@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

As someone who doesn't have the entrepreneurial experience to give advice, I felt similar very recently. Came back from a year-long holiday in New Zealand (from the US) and kept getting told how adventurous I was and how well I was doing. Meanwhile, I had no money in my account and no direction. Still don't if I'm being quite honest. However, by the sounds of it, you have a great motivation and drive to want more. I'm the same age (21) and haven't the foggiest clue where I'm headed. It sounds like you are meant for great things, keep pushing forward. Much love to you brother, stay safe.

Would investing in a business projecting 45k a month be of any interest to you?

[–] StedeBonnet1@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago
  1. Based on your description of your success so far you are NOT a loser. You are the exception. Remember that approximately 20% of new businesses fail during the first two years of opening, 45% during the first five years, and 65% during the first 10 years.

  2. Hire a CEO or promote a manager to run things while you take some time to see what's next. Here are some thoughts.

A) Grow your existing business. More locations, franchising, unique service type locations like on site for a large company.

B) Vertical integration. Something related like Gym equipment. I have always been fascinated by the Peloton model. Imagine a workout regimine riding the Tour de France or running a marathon in China on the Great Wall

C) something entirely different like you said in your opening

Good luck. You ARE actually doing it right.

Encourage him he’s doing nice work

[–] EntryParking@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Consider your mindset.

If you smoke pot a few times a week, make it 1X, consider that your brain is still developing and things like add don't always manifest issues ril you're closer to 25, limit alcohol, keep perspective by recording success.

The word stagnant for me happens when I haven't had clarity to my thoughts or motivation to take action. Both don't seem like my true self, so I work on getting my brain right (entrepreneur, sold a biz, working on another exit).

[–] Educational-Bison01@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Honestly take a break. like a good break where you're not involved in the business, could be just one week, go someplace nice with strangers, and stress less about things you can't control. Sometimes all you need is a boost of motivation, and most people get a new sense of creative energy after travelling.

[–] arnabing@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’d take this opportunity to take down time and learn new stuff. Treat it like a hobby. For example, learn about AI. Take a few online courses. This may help you find a new passion

[–] BarGuy7@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Maybe you could try to take some time to learn a new skill, something you can incorporate into your business or use elsewhere for extra earnings. Maybe some sales or marketing skills could help you grow your business, if you don't already have those skills.

You most definitely are not a loser. You are doing great, and pay no mind to those who don't understand or think you're "crazy". Of course they don't understand, they're afraid of taking the same risks that you take.

[–] SaaSWriters@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Stop caring about labels and what other people think of you. You seem to have food, clothes, and a roof over your head. Appreciate that, be grateful. Take it from there.

[–] SoftwareNotNull@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

is this a job or a business? will it make money while you are sleeping? if not, its a job. A business should buy you free-time. Keep in mind most (non scientific gut feeling) business strike lightning at the 10-12 year mark with multiple pivots.

When you feel down about work try to feel up about something else such as a sport, relationship or hey start another side gig. I currently have three irons in the fire and some could argue I should focus all my time on the biggest one.. thats not me. I like the chase. So I found partners to help me carry the load so that I can do the parts that I enjoy.

[–] Emtyspaces@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Simply called boredom, and hey you have all the right to be, but hats off since you still wanna find that spark and follow it 🔥

[–] CSCAnalytics@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Two sentences in and stoped reading.

Solution is to call a therapist.

When you’re sick you call a doctor.

Completely irrelevant to your post, but I’m (22M) in somewhat of the same boat as you and have a dream of doing online fitness coaching. I currently sell on Amazon, but my passion lies more in the nutrition side of things, which is why I’m now considering going back to school for nutrition. Do you mind if I ask how you got started? Did you simply just get your personal training cert & then start posting on social media? Are there any specific books you read that helped you get started? Thanks!!!

[–] Girlonascreen_@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Well done. Just follow your passion, go with what feels right and perhaps renew your friends/family circle. It seems like maybe they make you insecure. At your age I also started as entrepreneur and discovered quickly that the more I surrounded myself with others in the same field everything went great and yes, I have broken many friendships too, bcs it´s just a waste of time to prove yourself etc. Goodluck!

[–] inductivespam@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Look at it like an education, and the next steps are just more of that. As long as you’re putting 60 good hours in every week, you’ll be fine.

[–] HatchimalSam@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If you want to work harder, start working harder.

That or...

Play harder (enjoy your success!)

Bro i’m 18 right now just starting up my online fitness coaching business and I would do anything to be where your at now. I’m in debt, learning the ropes, broke leads, and unsure if i’m gonna be able to make it work as an online trainer. This post gave me hope that I can make it.

Got any advice to a young new online fitness coach OP?

Sometimes we get bored because our goals are too small. I remember thinking that I wanted to make $100,000 a year at a job. When I did that in IT at age 27 I noticed I lost something. I lost energy and drive.

Try setting your goals higher. What does a $10 million business look like for you? A $100 million business? If that doesn't excite you maybe you need to start another business and see how many businesses you can start and run.

[–] Sedulous_Scorpio@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Lots of comments are a little jealous lol. You need a challenge to feel winning but like a comment posted, it will never be enough. Want efficient solutions? Pay me for personal mentorship or find a nice long guided retreat to reflex and work on your internal self. Otherwise read a book like “man’s search for meaning” or “how to stop worrying and start living”

[–] ChaserMaker@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

May read “The Dip” by Seth Godin. It’s a small book.

[–] LeganV9@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

What do you really want, I'm 26, all my businesses have failed since the last 5 years... I don't know, share your knowledge aha

[–] RussellFighter@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Join the fucking club. 100k at 21yo 170k at 22yo And now my side project is doing $25k MRR.

But I still feel stupid and lost and hopeless. We can form a support group 😂

[–] dabidoe@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

21 Years old and feel like a loser? Seriously? You realize how many 21 year olds are barely scraping by and you've got a successful business?

Go to therapy. Stop worrying about your business for a while. Take a vacation. I think you need to unplug and recharge.

[–] Raymond__2524@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’m in a similar place in my life rn, I just completed college, have a good amount of money and have good friends around me but I just feel like I could be doing more to get where I ultimately want to be. I try and stay positive but when you’re staying stagnant when you know you could do more is hard to deal with mentally.

[–] No_Bus_9772@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Work harder on the inner than you do on the outer.

[–] Sospian@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You could make all the money in the world, but even that can be a form of escape.

The reason you don't feel fulfilled is because there is something unresolved in your psyche that needs to be addressed.

Have you gone through any abuse or traumatic events in your life?

[–] CurmudgeonJunction@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You need a mentor.

[–] beeper212@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I'm sorry, I'm not available

Be careful what you wish for.

[–] apersonsthoughts1@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Remember it's not what you should have been doing its what you are doing now and give yourself a timeline for each accomplishment so you have something substantial and tangible to reach for

[–] apersonsthoughts1@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yes 1 ...whether or not you get it! You need a break! 2! Two your family sounds like mine. If I worked 40 hours a week at Walmart they'd he proud and still put me down! I am 50 go to college full-time for marketing plus research day and night for my startup go to meetings barely get sleep! Be where life makes you happy let the negative people go it's toxic! I know it's hard but you are important! 3 Maybe it's time for your business to evolve or maybe you want to start a second one or volunteer! 4Find some quiet time everyday 4 only u and breathe! You are why you started your journey! I know 8ts hard to find balance! Believe me I'm working on it myself! You will find your balance!
