The former senior CIA officer who helped oversee the 2017 intelligence assessment on Russia’s interference in the 2016 election says Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and the White House are “lying” when they claim that it was an attempt to sabotage President Donald Trump.

Susan Miller, a retired CIA officer who helped lead the team that produced the report about Russia’s actions during the 2016 campaign, told NBC News it was based on credible information that showed Moscow sought to help Trump win the election, but that there was no sign of a conspiracy between the Kremlin and the Trump campaign.

“The director of national intelligence and the White House are lying, again,” Miller said. “We definitely had the intel to show with high probability that the specific goal of the Russians was to get Trump elected.”

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember hearing that they got the intelligence through a channel they were already monitoring, and Obama decided to sit on it specifically to avoid the appearance of exactly this.

My recollection was that he tried to get it released in a bipartisan manner and McConnell spiked it

Obama asked permission from McConnell to release the info about Trump. He could have just done it, or even done it regardless, but he didn't.

That, and the way he wasted the first six months of his first term trying to be bipartisan, are two of his biggest mistakes ever and radicals altered the course our country would take. I'll genuinely never forgive him.

And he's still the best president I've ever had the opportunity to vote for :(

Can you imagine even one Republican asking a Democrat for such a thing?

Yeah, on the bipartisan thing, I remember driftglass on the Professional Left saying something like "Obama would extend a hand to the other side, and kept pulling back a bloody stump", which is a very evocative image.

They lie broadly for any reason, so I don't see why they wouldn't be lying about this too.
