A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

Be honest, but not to brutal please 😆

I'm testing out names for my photography. I have a super basic name and there seems to be a lot of people with "Meghan Photography" as their business name.

So I was thinking of doing " Love, Meghan Photography" as in I'm creating these precious memories/moments keepsakes for people. These perfect frozen moments, it's like a gift from me. So Love, Meghan.

Is it dumb? Haha I'm just testing the waters here. Don't be too cruel please.

Also my middle name is Lisa which I do not love, so using my middle name is a NO for me.

If there aren't a bunch of Meghan photography where you live. I don't think it matters. I think MeghanPhoto would be fine. And place the motos and message your site

I just associate it with Ms Markle, she’s a controversial figure and one of the famous who are just known by one name. I’d want to avoid any sort of association with her and her lawyers.

[–] McTraveller@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

It's the photographers name. She can't change her name just to appease people who are grumpy about a member of royalty they likely will never even meet

I have the mind of a 12 year old so I called mine photosofart.

It all depends on your style and audience. If you're all about empty photo frames as props, everyone dressed in white linen and editing using selective colouring, then it's perfect.

LMAO that's exactly how I read it. Probably doesn't help that they said mind of a 12 year old.

I think it's a good idea but I would write it this way: Love, Meghan. photography
You should try out other ideas as well though and see how they look printed.
Also try with different fonts. Great free fonts are available at freefonts.io
I wish you lots of success 😎

Honestly don’t overthink it. End of the day you are your business. Looks like you’re a Christian so having “love” in the title might be good at hinting toward the culture. I know people who have 6 different LLC’s basically all doing the same thing so that the branding fits the specific demographic. If you like it, it’s a vibe. For the love of all that’s holy though be thoughtful if you feel the need to watermark images. Nothing worse than a first/last name in filigree at the center of a photo… you could have your logo be handwritten and leave it as a *tiny signature on the bottom of your photos.

I had the same problem last few weeks, but decided to stick to my name and photography at the end 😎

[–] Leica8691@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah,, I did that for 20 years. Worked out fine.

I tried a fun name for my company but then other people started using that name. True they were in other parts of the US (and one in AUS) but dude one of them was SO crappy and took such horrid basic photos I regretted choosing that name.

Now I just use my name - but I have a unique name so I'm not in Meghan's shoes.

Maybe something like Meghan Loves Photography?

[–] elviajedelviento@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

From a promotional point of view, you want a name that is unique for you, but easy to remember and pronounce. The comma might look ok on paper, in writing, but it gets confusing once clients start talking about your business or looking for you on social media.

What about something that's related to your genre of photography? I like how you describe it, creating precious memories, keepsakes. Perfect frozen moments. Gifts. So, a combination of that idea and your name? Like, say, Memories by Meghan, or something like it.

Difficult, isn't it! 😅 But you'll know when you find the one, I'm sure! Good luck

Moments by Meghan? I like alliteration…

[–] kristalghost@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I'd use that as a product name to be honest, it sounds good. As in you can buy a "Moments by Meghan" bundle which includes a photoshoot, printed version of some kind of x amount of photo's and the like.

I would avoid your name in it because it’s kinda overdone in this industry. When the dude who started GEEK SQUAD started (before he sold to Best Buy), it was just him. But he wanted to give the impression that there was a whole team of geeks. Not saying you should do the same. But take yourself out of the equation and think about what you want to say with your name. Think of brands like “Precious Moments” and “thing’s remembered” But different. “A moment in time” ? Love That moment ?

[–] stateit@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

“Precious Moments”

Comes across a bit like "Happy Endings" to me, but maybe I've just got a NSFW imagination...

[–] zorro1701e@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I hate precious moments. But was trying to think outside the bix

[–] Lil1011@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I like that but that’s a copy written name with the Precious Moments figurines.

[–] Comprehensive_Tea924@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Honestly I think you should just use your whole name. You’re the artist, so use your name.
