The situation Pop has built is honestly malpractice for Wemby. Every other team in the top 5 would’ve given him proper guard support to get to spots that he could excel. The Sochan experience is a colossal failure and is depriving the fans of enjoying wembys rookie year.

I think Wemby should’ve been drafted by the Celtics

[–] tiggertigerliger@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

That you Bill?

[–] Aggressive-Ad-756@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Between them and the blazers

[–] Randvek@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Wemby would have been playing with Lillard.

[–] dildosagginsthe2nd@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

You're right, would have been so much better to go to the Hornets, a well run team well know for developing talent. Would have been much better off

[–] Successful_Baker_360@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Who have the spurs developed in the past 10 years?

[–] Final-Luck-4222@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Kawhi Leonard - 2 chips, 2 time fmvp, was drafted in 2011 and developed by Spurs.

Dejounte Murray is also balling out

[–] Successful_Baker_360@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (4 children)

So a player drafted 13 years ago and a guy they traded in year 2. Can’t beat that track record

[–] twrs_29@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

A guy they got 3 first for in his 2nd year is bad development?

[–] bb1432@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

It wasn't his second year. He was on his 2nd contract ffs

[–] Final-Luck-4222@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Lol. How many fmvps has Hornets, Blazers, Rockets and Pistons developed in the last 13 years ? They were the other 4 top picks. Dumbass.

[–] bb1432@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

a guy they traded in year 2.

You aren't good at counting, are you?

Charlotte would've been a great fit for him. Melo would always feed him and he could effectively roam alongside a rim protector like Mark Williams.

[–] dildosagginsthe2nd@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Developing as a player takes a lot more than playing with a good guard. The Spurs have one of the best track records in the history of the NBA at developing players. The other 4 teams in the top 5 do not, Portland wouldn't have been terrible thought. Charlotte would have been absolutely terrible for his development long term compared to the Spurs. They are notoriously bad at drafting and developing players.

Charlotte was in the top 5 and has guys committing felonies every couple weeks.

[–] LaMeloxMilesxScoot@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Lamelo himself already makes the hornets a better situation for Wemby than whatever the Spurs have

[–] koenigsaurus@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Surely LaMeloxMilesxScoot is a reliable an unbiased source of this information with no ulterior motives, pack it up folks

[–] PoonGo0n@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago
[–] ShopCartRicky@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I'm biased as hell, but I think of the lotto teams from a roster standpoint, the Pacers would have been perfect.

That said, the Spurs are a great organization for him to be a part of going forward.

[–] bb1432@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

We could have drafted hali like I wanted us to do. He's so damn good

[–] ShopCartRicky@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Not just Hali, but having Myles there. Basically Wemby could freelance on D, and on O, he wouldn't be required as a ball handler. The spacing with him and Myles would work really well in general as both can stretch the floor or play inside.

[–] bb1432@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I never understood the weird phase where every talking head acted like Myles wasn't a phenomenal fit on any team in the league on a good contract.

[–] HumbugQ1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I’m confident the front office has a plan (and patience) that projects beyond sixteen games.

[–] RosaReilly@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

This is obviously ridiculous, but at the same time I do remember that he was happy to not to be going to the Rockets, but they look a lot better

[–] WheedMBoise@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

With all due respect, is this your first season watching basketball? Every high level prospect usually finds themselves in this spot

This is so tiring

[–] captain_ahabb@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

We're 16 games into his career

[–] introspectivejoker@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

It's over. The guy might as well pack it in and retire now

[–] qpwoeor1235@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

This sub after Wemby puts up 15/8/4: “is Wemby the biggest bust of all time”

I think this is part of the plan for them. The lack of shot creation in the starting five forces Wemby into a creator role to see what does and doesn't work for him. Let him make a lot of plays, good and bad, and then use that info to mold the team around him moving forward. The Spurs see him as their long term #1 option, so it makes sense for them to start pushing him towards that now. It's a very different situation in OKC for example, where they see Chet as a long term very good #2 or #3, so it makes sense to have him in that role surrounded by ballhandlers right from the start.

People are really overreacting to what, less than 20 games in a rookie year? People gave this guy lofty expectations and are surprised he’s not living up to them. If the guy doesn’t get injured, then I find it hard to believe that a 7’4 player who moves like a gazelle is going to be a bust because of the Spurs lack of a point guard. It’s a long season, way to early for all of this. Kobe first couple of years were fucking ugly but no one remembers those. Guys like Shaq or Lebron who come in and reshape a team by themselves are beyond rare and come along once in a generation.

[–] paDdy_g37@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Lol u know Detroit & Charlotte were u in the top 5?

[–] Successful_Baker_360@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Cade and Lamelo would be the best player on the spurs and feed him the ball where he is best with it

[–] classicslayer@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

All I know is the league should be very happy wemby didnt end up in OKC Orlando or Dallas

[–] PYRO__BEATBOX@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

if only our magic got him...

[–] classicslayer@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Dynasty for a decade

[–] rdniko1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It’s too early to tell and if pop wants to develop sochans playmaking then that’s fine. If Wemby is the generational talent he was hyped up to be he doesn’t need a proven playmaker to be great

[–] Successful_Baker_360@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

It helps to have someone who can successfully get the ball up court and make an entry pass

[–] eanregguht@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yes with all respect to Spurs fans. Vic is mostly an off-ball big on both ends of the floor, you need the right personnel for the specific talent.

Offensively, the Spurs have no guard to feed him nor do they have the spacing to open up rolls and punish teams who commit too hard.

Defensively, the Spurs don't have a strong rim protector to allow him to roam effectively nor do they have the perimeter defense to keep him as the low man.

[–] Charlie_Steve@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

This is pretty short sighted…

[–] runevault@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I hate how impatient we as NBA fans have gotten. So many posts like this, ignoring the fact that the Spurs organization has clearly shown an ability to foster and/or develop talent. Yes you can argue Duncan can in more ready than almost any player ever but they still created an organization around him to maximize that plus developed Manu and Parker. Then you have Kawhi which no one saw becoming what he was by the end of his time on the spurs, plus guys like Dejounte Murray and Derrick White who've been very good after starting under the Spurs development program.

I get it, Sochan doesn't look like he can run an offense. But there are two potential upsides to that. He can't and they get another high draft pick, or he figures it out and they can run MASSIVE lineups with all long bois in a league that still isn't ready for it (look at what the Nuggets did to everyone in the playoffs, and even the Lakers before they faced the Nuggets, the small ball era isn't what it used to be).

[–] bb1432@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

You'll have to forgive OP. He just finished cutting a turkey out of construction paper after tracing his hand.

Spurs think they have the talest Trae Young ever. Spurs lost basically all their talent for years, all the other teams have been stealing their non playing personnel for years. Pop is senile, him going to the mic on a Leonard free throw confirmed it.

[–] CBridgeDC@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Not sure if you came here with this just to get dunked on, but that, very predictably, is exactly what happened lol.

[–] morcic@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

If I was a young NBA prospect, I'd stay the fuck away from social media and fans in general.

[–] jumboponcho@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The Sochan PG experiment is nothing but a tank job, and it’s hilarious how Pop is pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes

[–] Hifosty@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Bron doubled the Cavs record from 18 to about 35 wins his rookie year, missed playoffs

Didnt make the playoffs till about 3 years later and we all know what happened there

[–] StacheBigote420@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

We’re low key tanking. We’re high key experimenting with everything. Trying out no boos, forcing a point forward, letting a 19yr old phenom have an abstract offense that supposedly runs thru him. Atleast we are somewhat competitive for a college aged team, But Pop is doing some odd stuff I wouldn’t have expected
