The Thunder could have, ya know, not fouled him. Especially at the end, lots of intentional fouls (on Embiid) to try to come back. That is not super obvious in the box scores for all you box score warriors, though.
Watched the game, 6 free throws came off of intentionally fouling. 15 free throws is still a crazy amount. Obviously some were actual fouls but come on dude. This man is how big and strong and you really gonna defend his flailing around and crying for fouls?
I watched the game and didn't see him flailing or crying for fouls. He was just attacking the basket. Also the refs don't call fouls based on how many they called previously, a foul is a foul.
Is 15 really a crazy amount for a super high usage star center going against a team playing a PF at the 5?

Not only did he get intentionally fouled repeatedly at the end of the game, but the Thunder's starting center is Chet. I think he spent most of the game being guarded by Chet, Williams, and Wallace, one of which is 6'3". I mean of course he got fouled a lot lol, I watched the game and I didn't see anything I felt was undeserved
When the Thunder played the Nuggets earlier this year Chet equally could not defend against the bigger and stronger and more talented Jokic. Do you know how many free throws Jokic shot? 3, for the entire game. Jokic also got called for a foul for turning around when the 7'2" Chet put his face all the way down at Jokic's elbow height.
It is honestly laughable the lengths you people will go to defend the disgraceful fouls that get called for Embiid.

Teams with good defenses or at least a big that can occasionally body up Joel have to wondering what these posts are talking about lol. The Celtics definitely do not have to concede 20 free throws a game to him to have a chance at winning.
The thing is people would LOVE embiid if he embraced being a 350lb big man and just bodied everyone like Shaq did instead of foul hunting and flopping all over the court everytime he takes some contact. I personally think he'd probably average even more points if he did that because there's a lot of teams who's big men arent heavy enough. Just look at this okc game.

By making him a passer, Nurse has really put Embiid in a position to succeed in the playoffs. So this year we'll definitively know whether Embiid's postseason woes have more to do with stricter officiating, or choking.
