The Lakers have waved the white flag with 8 minutes to go in the 4th so it looks like Joel Embiid is also done for the night. He finished with 30 pts on 9-15 shooting (2-3 from 3, 10-12 FTs), 11 rebs, 11 asts, 1 stl and 1 blk in just 3 quarters against the Lakers.

Doc Rivers is a basketball terrorist

[–] honestnbafan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (5 children)

It's partially coaching but I think Embiid has also just improved a lot as a passer and is making better reads this season

He's one of those guys who adds something to his game every couple of seasons and I'm sure he knew this offseason that passing out of doubles/defensive "swarms" was his biggest area he can work on

[–] Sorry-Mushroom-8800@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

embiid adds something to his game every season it’s crazy. came in with defense & post game, added the midrange shooting, then the 3s, then the handles, and now the passing.

Doesn’t get talked about enough how he’s 7’ 280 and plays like a wing 75% of the game.

It cracks me up that Rivers used the excuse that Joel needed to know where the shooters are to pass to as the reason he had no off ball action at all.

Now the offense moves and embiids assists are exploding.

Rivers is lazy, incompetent and stupid. I'm so fricking glad he's finally gone.

[–] SpitBallar@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Nurse is putting him at the top of the key and letting him read the floor from there... while also incorporating motion off the ball. It's a completely different environment for Joel.

[–] wsbull_35@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's partially coaching

It’s also roster construction. They finally added some wings (Batum, RoCo, Oubre) who can move off ball and shoot around Embiid. Makes his life easier.

[–] WubaDubImANub@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think Embiid always had the passing it’s just that rivers ran the worst offenses imaginable. Literally the Tyron Lue meme “give LeBron ball” but with Embiid.

I swore when watching Embiid under that offense he’d get doubled and yet still have no options to pass too.

[–] Siakim43@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

"Doc Rivers is a basketball terrorist" has to be slipped on an ESPN segment at some point. They already let loose with the R-word. And the kicker would be mainstream America losing their minds at the former while "developmentally disabled" goes unnoticed.

[–] abzftw@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He should’ve been gone after the clips tbh. Dude just wasn’t a good coach for this era

If there's one thing that Nuggets fans and Sixers fans can agree on, it's that Embiid and Jokic have completely sonned AD for years now. That is always a bad night for him.

Terrorist merchant

[–] Eughhh@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

How many of those assists were ethical though?

[–] Lazaraaus@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He shot free throws so they had to put him down. The leagues been cracking down this year.

[–] MVPiid@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

vorp merchant

[–] anotheruim@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He's sat a lot of 4th quarters this year tbh, another great performance

[–] moorelurk@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (5 children)

Embiid triple double, you love to see it.

[–] Otherwise_Opposite65@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Joela Embiidic

Something something…Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

[–] S420J@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Been flirting with it all season. His career high in assists this year has definitely been warranted.

[–] Puzzleheaded_Fox4684@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

His passing is so much better this season, closer to Jokic than 2022 Embiid

You guys think this will get 600 comments like the free throw post today?

[–] DannyConfectionery@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He only played 3 quarters, and his FTA per game went up because he shot 12 at the line. He is third all time in FTA'S per game

So expect people to keep pointing out how unfun it is to watch him play basketball

Someone please help me find a way to hate on this game. Pretty please

[–] shazam482@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Couldn't even get a 40 point triple double SMH....

[–] Toeknee99@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I guess this is the Sixers fan circlejerk thread where we ignore he got 1/3 of his points from FTs yet again.

[–] Guitaristb72@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Poor guy cant even have an original thought. Copy and paste from other threads lol.

[–] RealPrinceJay@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

His growth as a passer is astounding. 6.6apg on the season.

[–] jacksonelhage@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I like seeing him sort of command the offence out there instead of being a finisher and only really passing out of doubles. guarding him becomes a completely different game.

[–] Poverty_Shoes@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He’s been an absolute offensive weapon this year

[–] Puzzleheaded_Fox4684@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

This is the first season since butler that I'm looking at the Sixers roster and thinking that the Celtics and bucks have competition

[–] hoagieclu@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

never doubt our ability to flounder when the lights are brightest. this is definitely the most hopeful i’ve been in years, but im still skeptical abt the playoffs just bc of how many disappointments the past few years have brought

[–] set_null@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Just remember it's an iron law of Philadelphia sports that the team has to lose in the most depressing, gut-wrenching, agonizing manner possible

Those idiots lucking into Maxley with the 20th pick is the biggest reason.

I’m pretty sure this is the 4th time in the Sixers 12 wins where Embiid got to rest the entire 4th Quarter. And 2 of those times, he was 1 assist from a Triple Double through 3 Quarters.

[–] ClozeQueue2@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

His playmaking is looking so much more complete with Nurse’s offense. He’s had 8 or 9 assists in several recent games, 11 today in 3 quarters. Doc Rivers should never set foot in Philadelphia again

[–] darthrevan22@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Always good seeing AD get destroyed. Always good seeing the Lakers get destroyed. The fact that it was Embiid and the Sixers doing it is meh lol.

[–] Euphoric_Luck_8126@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Lol I guarantee the post about Embiid's free throws attempts will get more upvotes than his 3 quarter, 30 point triple double.

[–] Chuck_Finley_Forever@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Why are people saying his assists are from free throws?

Is that a real thing?

[–] Away_Sun_3040@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Joel over AD any day of the week. Glad Joel finally has a good nurse

[–] JesusAllen@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Embiid could steal another MVP from joker lol

[–] Soup-Intelligent@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I can't believe the refs let him flop into 11 assists

[–] WadeCountyClutch@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The lakers wave the white flag in the second quarter

[–] hoagieclu@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

if you would’ve told me embiid would get 11 assists in a single game this time last year i never would’ve believed it.

[–] YummyYumYumi@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

DAJ legit making jokic passes

[–] knoxcreole@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Let's see him do it in a game 7.

[–] ComfortableDino@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

After all the talk last year, and watching Jokic put a light-year between the two, he now wants to learn to be a passer.

Will see what happens. Good on Nurse. But a historically bad regular season to playoff fall off becoming a copycat certainly doesn't bode well

It's crazy how much he flops and how much he gets rewarded for it

[–] Bryciclee@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

When’s the last time you’ve seen a center who can pass like that

I think people look at like Joel's FT stats a lot and don't realise he gets fouled at lot at end of games in the bonus to stop time. One game this week he had like 6 ft's tacked on in 15 seconds of actual game time.

Also his stats last year didn't reflect the reality of how many more stats he could have posted, if his offense and defense hadn't won the game for the sixers by halfway through the third quarter.

76ers and big Joel watchers know this sort of game well. It was quite common for him last year which is why he was called early for MVP, and eventually won it. Yeah he sucked in the playoffs, but MVP Is about the reg, and Joel was doing this, on the reg.

[–] RayePappens@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That's my pity mvp
