Anyone else think Gardner has actually become somewhat underrated? Maybe it’s people not caring about Indy, but he’s having a decent season for a back up.

With how bad QB play is around the league (Fields, Wilson, Pickett, DeVito, Bryce, Mac, etc.) I’d wager a lot of teams would love someone who’s competent, tough, accurate, somewhat mobile and a leader like Minshew. He doesn’t have a big arm, he doesn’t have high end athletic traits, he’s short, etc., but the guy can play some football and help a good team stay above water.

His rookie season was great in my eyes. The stats were honestly really good. Say what you want, but that Jags team also wasn’t very good. Watching a guy like Bryce Young play, who I’ll admit is probably in an even worse situation than Minshew was in with the Jags, really puts things into perspective of how rare it is to have a QB who’s competent and not horrendous.

Is he a star? Absolutely not. Is he a franchise guy? Nah. Is he an extremely high end back up / bridge QB? Honestly yes.

Curious as to what everyone’s thoughts are. I know he’s been a topic of discussion in the past but it seems like he isn’t talked about anymore even though he’s winning some games for a decent Indy team and not looking bad in the process. Not advocating for him to be “the guy”, that’s Richardson based on tools and potential, but I think guys like Minshew are insanely valuable.

i like him, just like any eagles fan should like a backup who plays their heart out for us

[–] fuzzynavel34@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He’s a very good backup but that’s what he is. Way too many turnovers to ever be an actual starter

[–] psstein@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He’s going to have a Ryan Fitzpatrick-like career. A great backup, but not a great starter.

Minshew is one of the few backups you can win with vs. planning around his many limitations.

[–] bauboish@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The problem with guys like Minshew is that he's proven that he's not capable of being an above average starter, which is pretty much minimum needed to have a chance to contend for a Super Bowl.

Sure, guys likes Fields and Young are probably worse, but they're still young and can rise to that level until proven otherwise. It's the upside that keeps many of these young QBs starting. Should the day come when it's evident these guys can't ever be more than below average starter, they too will be forgotten in the discourse.

I want to sign him to a long term backup contract.

He's another Fitzpatrick.

He's good enough to be on a good team and not super screw up, but he's not putting a team on his back for an entire season.

With luck, the name Minshew will be thrown around positively for another 15 years as he earns a ton of money as a great back up who can come in and help close out some games.

The NFL needs another lovable journeyman who we all root for, even though we know he's not elite. Just very good.

[–] TIectric@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yup I've been saying this. Minshew Magic/Fitzmagic is realy

[–] Shenanigangster@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

And then 10 years after that he’s one of the bright young coaches in the league.

People forget he was supposed to intern for Saban at Alabama before Leach got him to transfer to Wazzu

I don't think he can do this. I think it is in his nature to try and play hero ball and will do it even when nothing about the game or that play dictates he has to do anything but execute it normally. This leads to turnovers.

He's just not very good, regardless of how oddly interesting he is as a person.

Most likely not going to elevate a team but can absolutely make a team like Cleveland legit Super Bowl contenders. I really don’t think he’s behind Dalton or carr or any other middling qb who’s gotten big money in their career.

[–] Need_A_Hobby1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

As someone who watches every Colts snap: no.

He is perfectly rated as is. He’s a great back up QB and a bottom end of the league starting QB.

He has 0 arm strength and is guaranteed to throw 2-3 boneheaded throws per game that typically end in turnovers.

[–] CanlStillBeGarth@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (4 children)

Also, he’s always touted as having good pocket presence and good accuracy for some reason when both are actually complete garbage.

He’s constantly throwing high and behind his receivers and bails out of clean pockets because he’s seeing ghosts when our oline has been one of the best in pass protection this year.

[–] Swordsknight12@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Lol I love how this went from a Minshew appreciation post to a “yeah, well he sucks” post.

[–] DavidOrWalter@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Also, he’s always touted as having good pocket presence and good accuracy for some reason when both are actually complete garbage.

Yeah - I watch him play and he has about the worst pocket presence I have ever seen. Bailing on entirely fine pockets to scramble around for no reason, making his linemen block for way longer, and then he fucks up the throw that had no pressure.

[–] StudyRoom-F@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

He single handedly lost his job with us last year when he lost us the Cowboys game. We were playing so well but he just kept sailing passes over every receivers head.

I’ve never seen my mom so angry at the tv in my life

[–] Yes_Dont_Stop@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Lmaoo same here. My mom was pissed we delayed eating Xmas eve dinner while watching midshew struggle that game.

[–] Rah_Rah_RU_Rah@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The Saints game was even worse. Anyone who calls Hurts a system QB needs to watch those games

[–] Buttcrush01@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

To be fair after watching Richardson's ball placement Minshew does look far more accurate.

[–] CanlStillBeGarth@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

And that’s a wash because Richardson is already way more comfortable in the pocket.

[–] SS_MinnowJohnson@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I think it’s the arm strength that is his permanent ceiling. Every QB makes bad plays, but when you make a bad throw and it’s going slower than my wife can throw it, its getting picked off

[–] Colts_1995@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He’s our 1995 Jim Harbaugh

[–] Live_Strongerrr@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

What kind of name is Gardner? I thought that was a hobby.

[–] AleroRatking@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

As someone who watches every Indy game he is not the reason we are winning at all but he does help keep us from losing. our offensive line has been insane this year and Pittman catches everything. The defense front 7 has also been really good (although our secondary, specifically corners are not). Minshew is the ideal backup QB. He does enough to keep you in the game with only one or two big mistakes per game. But he is absolutely not a long term starter.

[–] yerbamategoat@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

His performances in the Cowboys and Saints games last year could not have been more hot/cold. He’s a great backup but definitely not a franchise guy long term

[–] CDSWDH@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No he’s not underrated he’s an average backup Qb

[–] DavidOrWalter@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Anyone else think Gardner has actually become somewhat underrated? Maybe it’s people not caring about Indy, but he’s having a decent season for a back up.

He's a bad QB - maybe he's backup quality but you don't want him starting.

Watch his game against the Patriots and he is single handedly trying to lose that game by running around and bailing on pockets for absolutely no reason. He is forcing his linemen to block for 8 seconds then he tried to chuck it off balance and makes awful throws.

[–] GalacticMoss@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I'd love me a dollop of Minshew right on top of my Jets pie

[–] bleedblue4@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He does some pretty infuriating things. That being said he's done pretty good given the situation

[–] Muted_Cucumber_6937@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He’s a low end QB1, and I love him. Bring back Minshew Mania 😂

[–] Ok-Mode-3157@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Minshew could be a started on about 50% of NFL teams.

[–] Significance_Scary@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He is due for some dumb mistakes every game but he is one of the better backups in the NFL. Not bad for a 6th rounder.

[–] sgtbird@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He should be starting

[–] Defender_Of_TheCrown@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He is an above average backup. Makes some good throws. Makes some horrible ones. Shouldn’t be a starter long term but neither should Justin Fields.

[–] GerardShekler@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I think there are alot of back up QBs like that. Take Jacoby Brissett for example. I feel like he should've been a starter for some QB transitions but who knows.

[–] CmonnowSally@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I was very impressed with the way he quarterbacked against the ravens, and he only threw for like 175 yards. It’s not gonna show up on the stat sheet, but he is a general on that team, and a dawg.

Found some MILF's burner account.
