Who the hell is letting him do squats in running shoes

[–] RyanGoosling93@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

People are downvoting you, but you're right. It's increases injury and worsens form. But it's hard to see a guy squat 600 and say anything other than 'god damn that's a lot of weight.'

[–] Josh_Allen_s_Taint@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The man squats 600… he can do what the fuck he wants. I’m sure your flat souls are helping your 200 pound squat

Since when are ppl supposed to do squats in different shoes. Genuine question bc i always wear running shoes in the gym and always see other ppl wearing them

[–] Useless@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Running shoes are kind of designed to pull/roll and have a bunch of different styles of soles, most of which are designed to absorb some sort of impact so they aren't supper stable. Adding 600 pounds or whatever probably flattens them out, but there are squat shoes that provide a flat/stable base with a slightly elevated heel so you're not relying on the side of your ankle to stabilize but just flat shoes are fine. The problem with running shoes is they're designed to move your feet which is the opposite of what you want in a squat.

You want shoes that are flat with a wide toe box (or barefoot if you’re allowed to).

CrossFit shoes like Reebok Nano or Nike Metcons will serve you well. I wear TYR CXT 1 trainers myself.

A pair of plain old chucks are popular too but if you get serious about squatting you’ll want to look into shoes like I mentioned above or a pair of actual lifters to let your toes spread out a bit.

Flatness and toebox width are not at all necessary for a good shoe for squatting.
You want non-compressing soles, and some folks benefit from a raised heel. I personally squat in flat shoes, but weightlifting shoes are very common.

Yeah that guy was clearly drinking the Tyr kool-aid bringing up toe box in a lifting shoe lol

[–] _Angel_Hernandez@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Since always I’m pretty sure

[–] cilantno@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Those don’t look like running shoes, they look like they have non-compressing soles.

Maximum shear force and torque to the knee

[–] Guiltyjerk@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Good speed on the squat. Don't get why so many NFL players squat like powerlifters instead if squatting more like weightlifters

Oh yeah, well I bet Brad Robbins can eat more crayons while nailing a 30 yarder!

[–] Any_Parsnip2585@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

That is impressive even coming from this old man. Now let’s see him lay some people out.

[–] Octo-Rocket@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Fuckin' jacked punter, man.

[–] son_of_toby_o_notoby@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Eat ur heart out jalen

[–] Nine-Fingers1996@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Press release! Jalen Hurts is not the only one that can squat 600 pounds.

[–] LeBremsstrahlung@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Surprised I don’t see any “He didn’t go full depth” comments in here which usually happens when Redditors see athletes move weights we’ll never come close to half of.

[–] Guiltyjerk@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I, too, think that someone's technique is impeccable if they squat more than me, because you're never allowed to critique people who are stronger than you

[–] _Angel_Hernandez@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Maybe because he hit parallel

[–] Soyeahnahh@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

NFL punters either weigh 150 pounds soaking wet or body building gods there’s no in between.

[–] Braves_9521@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He has an anime profile picture, this guy is valid

[–] SeniorDucklet@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

His lower back is going to be warped in 20 years. He’s literally looking at the floor while squatting.
