Every now and then, I can't help but wonder

Is me's AC ready for Summer?

[–] bigbabybilly@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It’s the er… European spelling. Don’t worry about it :/

That’s embarrassing. I’m not sure who owes them the bigger apology; The printing company or their high school English teacher.

[–] Perspectivist@feddit.uk 31 points 1 day ago (3 children)

My split AC unit cost me 1350€ with installation. 8k USD is ridiculous.

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It’s probably for an HVAC system that runs trough the entire building. Not just a unit that cools one room.

Yeah mine was like 10k but it's for central heating.

[–] zqps@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

"starting at" and the thing in the front is a simple unit that shouldn't cost you more than 2k.

[–] SirQuack@feddit.nl 4 points 1 day ago

My dual head split ac (is that correct? Two indoor units, one outdoor) was 2000 eur with installation.

That price is truly ridiculous, but maybe they'll make a typo in the final invoice in your favour.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

We bid ours out to four different vendors, lowest was $8K, highest was $13K.

[–] Kissaki@feddit.org 18 points 1 day ago

Yeah, sorry, we made a typo. It's actually $17,999.00.

[–] usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca 92 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Starting at 8 grand?? Seems pricey and I live in a place with expensive labour

[–] bitchkat@lemmy.world 45 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It says equipment starts at $8k. No mention of labor.

[–] b3an@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

Upbubpbubpbup! $7,999 and only valid if you have this giant tacky coupon with you 🤣

[–] usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago

Which is even worse, as I'd expect it to be half that installed

[–] toddestan@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

Summer is ending up here in the Northern hemisphere, so I'm going with this being in New Zealand, which makes it about $4600 US.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 19 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

An ad in NZ would be in ºC that "75" looks suspiciously ºF.

We'd also more likely call it a "heat pump" rather than "A/C".

Though $8000 does sound about right for South Pacific Pesos.

Also, OP said in another comment that it's US.

It could have easily been stock art

[–] 24_at_the_withers@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nope, Nevada. One of the other mildly infuriating things about this flier.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

As someone who lives in a border county (San Bernardino does border Nevada even if I live closer to Colton than Primm) aren't you guys on like the edge of having your balls frozen off? Nevada is mostly mountains and highland desert meaning hot as ass summers and cold as shit winters.

[–] 24_at_the_withers@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Northern Nevada can get pretty frosty. I remember seeing -14f there on a particularly cold morning. I'm in Southern NV now, and it was around 90f yesterday. Overnight lows are barely getting under 70f still. Coldest I've ever seen here is around 28f, and I can't remember the last time it even got to freezing.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 22 hours ago

I got stuck in a blizzard up in northern Nevada a bit south of Blackjack, was a right shitshow.

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Still crazy. Airconditioning is dirt cheap these days - a small bedroom aircon is like 300-400 usd these days.

[–] ramble81@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

AC replacements typically run 15-20K for a decent system, install and all. At least last time I had to check.

...and I'm not sure about getting an A/C from someone that can't grammar, either

That's just how you know it's really trustworthy!

Nope, USA. The third infuriating thing about this flier.

[–] tiredofsametab@fedia.io 12 points 1 day ago

I think a/c is mostly (entirely?) a north-american naming convention. It's been "aircon" in the other places I've lived in traveled.

[–] Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 1 day ago

I believe the polite way to ask this in their culture is, "Do you come from the land down under?"

[–] muhyb@programming.dev 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is you is or is you ain't my baby?

[–] NABDad@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (6 children)

Deleted my comment because I saw you beat me to it.

[–] muhyb@programming.dev 2 points 1 day ago

That's okay though. Sometimes I do the same and don't even notice it already exists.

Is I am ready for the season that’s over? No matter where you live, Summer is either over or a season away.

[–] MrQuallzin@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (3 children)

That took me way too long to notice

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago

I was like "Yeah, starting at $8k is pretty bullshit"
