He killed somebody but he "has no memory of what happened".

The trial had heard Hill said to a woman who stopped to help after the crash: “I was looking for my drink. I didn’t even see her. What will I get?”

So he's focused on what are the possible consequences for himself when there's a person dying in front of him?

Ooobviously innocent then. Like couldn't be trauma or anything. Like trauma from literally killing a breathing human being. No no, not the case, no.

Drivers are the least productive people on the streets in any city and should not be catered to. Wanna see local businesses thrive and at the same time reduce crime? Get rid of the cars.

I've said this before, but if you really want someone dead, just drive into them walking with your phone out, chances are slim you're going to jail.

Does this assume you're a white Christian non-queer male?

[–] stevedice@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 days ago

The chances of going to jail are about 50/50 anyway (less if you kill a minority). And that's not even accounting for wrongful convictions.

If you ever want to get away with killing someone, do it in a car.

[–] itkovian@lemmy.world 20 points 5 days ago (2 children)

This is murder. No other word for it.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 40 points 5 days ago

There are lots of words for it. Criminal negligence, manslaughter, homicidal apathy...

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 days ago

The word is normal.

Imposing 12 months imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, Judge Bate said he had taken into account Hill's plea and gave him credit for it.

Hill was also disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to do up to 15 days Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR) and 300 hours unpaid work.

What do they mean by suspended for 18 months? Jail sentence will start 18 months from now? Hope the prosecutor appeal for that. What rubbish.

18 months probation. If he gets in any trouble during that time, he's doing 12 months. It's a joke. We have the same court rulings every week in Germany and it's just sad at this point.

I remember a truck driver illegally cutting across a supermarket parking lot to avoid a traffic light, killing a kid, getting no punishment other than his license suspended for A SINGLE MONTH and then having the fucking audacity to fight that in appeals.

This page explains it, basically you don't go to prison itself, but you have certain requirements/conditions (stuff like community work) and if you break the terms you might then get sent to actual prison.

Absolutely shocking.

Jeez! UP to 15 days of rehabilitation, that poor guy! I sure hope it will not waste his weekends plans

I wonder if he is rich and connected.

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 12 points 5 days ago

No need, just need to manslaughter by car.

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 days ago

How long before "I'm sorry my body hit your car"

Putting regular people in cages won't fix the completely busted transit system that's literally destroying the planet.

Gotta put the politicians, planners, car/oil lobby, etc. in jail.

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 day ago

or possibly put them in the dirt, depending on which one. There's no fixing people who consciously actively work to perpetuate things that kill people.
