Doesn’t help that ICE actually tear-gassed some CPD in an earlier protest.

Broadview chief says he’s never had the CPD so poorly treated by a federal agency

These are not the best and brightest invading my city.

EDIT: ICE are also making fake 911 calls to drain police resources

Sounds like more of that stochastic terrorism to me.

Fox News makes this sound like border patrol agents were getting beat up and the cops refused to help.

In videos circulated on Instagram, two masked agents could be seen trying to take a man into custody in the middle of a busy street.

Drivers shouted at the federal agents and blew their horns as onlookers gathered. The struggle went on for several minutes before the agents released the man and fled in an unmarked vehicle.

In reality, people yelled and honked their horns while the masked federal agents tried unsuccessfully to kidnap a man off the streets. Boo fucking hoo.

The police should be using violence against people trying to kidnap folks in their community

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 78 points 2 days ago (4 children)

They're not protecting citizens from ICE either...

The absence of evil is nice and all, but that's not the bare minimum for good.

And cops still do a lot of evil on their own.

[–] cmbabul@slrpnk.net 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This is very much a situation where they sure as shit ain’t our allies but if ICE wants to make an enemy of the police I’m not gonna stop that mistake

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

Cops are elitists and view themselves "basically military"...

So when ICE thinks of themselves as "basically cops", they get the same result from cops as cops get from the military.

I've got disabled vet plates, and I have to be driving extremely stupid just to get pulled over. And then the cop is always tripping over themselves to apologize for it before I even say a word.

The loyalty is one sided. I don't give a fuck about a cop, and a cop doesn't give a fuck about ICE.

"Yeah, that's our evil theyre stealing". -CPD, probably

[–] evenglow@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And cops still do a lot of evil on their own.

Cops know that. They also know people who live there know it to.

ICE has no obligation to protect Chicago cops.

If a city began using it's police to hinder federal agents that would make it easier for them to send in the national gaurd

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Oh, that thing they're already doing?

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

Yeah they are just standing around, police fighting federal agents amounts to an insurrection. We may very well need that, but it's not going to be a pleasant time when the national gaurd starts shooting

As I posted elsewhere

Honestly, what about ANY of this scene makes it look like official law enforcement business other than the greater context? If this scene were to occur in a bubble, it would look like a very public kidnapping and the kidnappers would be at real risk of being killed/hurt by a Good Samaritan.

Some of the footage MeidasTouch posted this morning was really wild. Some asshat just pulling out his gun and brandishing it/pointing it at protesters.

And he's not wearing a mask - I hope that POS gets doxxed and faces legal consequences.

[–] Dragonstaff@leminal.space 33 points 2 days ago

Finally a positive story about the police...because those fucks weren't there.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 41 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

In at least one case, the Chicago Police Department was ordered not to assist federal agents swarmed by demonstrators, according to reports.

Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin reported that Chicago officers were instructed not to respond to the U.S. Border Patrol's calls for help in another incident where a vehicle was rammed and a person was shot.

So, more than spontaneous protest. Good.

And I don't care if MAGA MAdness spins this to be "war" - they're doing that regardless. Actual civil disobedience is more important than tweets rn.

I'm glad they're in disregard not only with lefties but also cops and admins for stepping on their toes.

[–] chosensilence@pawb.social 36 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Chicago PD is its own gang and federal thugs complicate things. Gov. Pritzker has tight control over Chicago and the police know he isn't merely talk when it comes to resisting outsiders meddling.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Mafia 3.0 isn't the worst enemy-of-my-enemy, but still...

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

The enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy. No more, no less.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

Cue a bunch of butthurt from the toddler-in-chief.

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This is truely an "enemy of my enemy is my friend" situation

I think it still holds true that the 'enemy of my enemy' is my enemy's enemy. No need to seek alignment where it isn't needed.

Oh, man. Now that would be a deterrent for these fash wannabes.

Show up, talk tough, get fucked aggressively (a la historical "decimation") by local pigs, and walk crooked all the way home to ihren kleine Führ~d~er ...lather, rinse, repeat. (some'd get stuck in the lather step, though) 🤣✊🏼
