Funnily enough, that part of my brain never worked. Then one day when i was around ~25 i realized it did and I've been retaining and even memorizing some numbers ever since!

[–] Gonzako@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

You remember numbers huh? Name all of them then

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago

Filling up with useless internet trivia

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Mine is still memorizing phone numbers. I know the numbers to all my closest family members.

How do people who don't memorize phone numbers get in touch with someone when their phone dies or they get arrested?

[–] mika_mika@lemmy.world 6 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Unless you are really a jerk about it, the times I've been taken in, the officers let me take a number out my phone to make my one call. I'm a white passing Hispanic though so YMMV.

[–] modus@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

Don't ever unlock your phone while in custody.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 22 hours ago

That won't work for me because I permanently forget passwords when stressed.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 4 points 22 hours ago

Memes. It's an archive of memes.

We use password managers now. No need for that.

[–] fascicle@leminal.space 20 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I still need password to login to machine then password to unlock the password manager, then at least in my work I use random software someone made that assigned me a random password to remember, and passwords for machines that are shared for specific tasks.

Always throws me off when I get back from a few days off becaus I forget everything and it takes me a minute to let my hands just fill passwords out of muscle memory

[–] besmtt@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

1000%

I go back to work tomorrow after almost two weeks off. First 15 minutes will be spent remembering those passwords.

[–] NKBTN@feddit.uk 4 points 1 day ago

Hands are AMAZING like that. At my last office I was the guy who had to call the external network admin whenever there was a problem. Used a desk phone to do it. I bet I could still dial his number faster than recite it

Aincha heard? All the kewl keeds are using passkeys nowadays. Whatcha gonna do wit' that part o' yer brain now?

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Passkeys sorta rub me the wrong way. No password AND it's on the same computer I'm trying to log in on anyway. It seems... Off somehow

/WiseassMode

Honestly? Same. Although supposedly Google added the ability recently to share them to other devices, the fact you couldn't easily (if at all - I didn't bother researching that much) do so before rang some alarm bells for me. Considering how dependent upon Google's known capriciousness using them would make me, I've also declined to use them thus far. That's why I made fun of them with the "kewl keeds" comment.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Fry it with drugs

[–] RiceMunk@sopuli.xyz 12 points 1 day ago

Still remembering those phone numbers. They're stuck in my head, even though those phone lines likely haven't existed for at least 2 decades now.

[–] DJKJuicy@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

Just straight up atrophied. Gone. Shriveled up like a raisin. Shriveled up like an old mans dusty balls.

[–] chellomere@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (2 children)

That part of my brain still contains the phone numbers it once memorized.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

... Some I haven't used in 40 years.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 9 points 1 day ago

Entering SMS OAuth codes instead

[–] svcg@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 day ago

Remembering my Grandma's phone number from 25 years ago.

[–] Luffy879@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 day ago

Random codes, like did you know the safety override code for system shock is 375? The medical armory is 507, and the Medic suite is 423

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oodles and oodles of obscure Vampire: The Masquerade lore I presume

[–] BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well

Unexpectedly that will soon be useful, I guess

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 21 hours ago

Very expectedly. It was just in torpor.

[–] Faydaikin@beehaw.org 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (1 children)

Filled with 'Weird Al' Lyrics from the '90s start 2000s.

[–] Faydaikin@beehaw.org 2 points 16 hours ago

And thank you to the natives for the corrections.

[–] RedSnt@feddit.dk 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

English is a garbage language. You can't tell me '90s makes more sense than 90's

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 day ago

It's a garbage language but the ' means something was omitted and you don't use a ' for a plural.

[–] BananaPeal@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

I still remember my own phone number growing up. I couldn't forget that if I tried. Actually, if I ever forget it that probably means I'm really getting old.

[–] itkovian@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Memorizing trauma.

[–] sbv@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago

Memes, clearly.

[–] foggianism@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

It's memorizing youtube drama details now.

[–] thefluffiest@feddit.nl 4 points 1 day ago

Memein’ obviously
