And less than 24 hours after Donald announced this “everlasting peace”, Palestinians were still being killed in Gaza, aid trucks stopped from going into Gaza and a row broke out about the failure of Hamas to return the bodies of dead Israeli hostages.

All of these grim, and sadly all too predictable factors, threaten to topple the whole ceasefire process.

Palestinian health officials reported that seven people inspecting their homes in east Gazawere killed by Israeli drones, violating the fragile ceasefire.

The Israeli military denied this, telling The Independent that the individuals had passed through a “yellow line” to which they had withdrawn. Israeli journalists, however, suggest that the military has invisible lines that Palestinians unknowingly cross.

DUH! That war is 80 years old. He thinks it’s been going on for only 2 years? He wants to blame 80 years of fighting on Biden. that orange bastard didn’t do anything revolutionary.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago

People who know even a little bit of history, not much, just a little bit, knew this was doomed to failure. Like most of Trump's accomplishments (triumphs?) this is more about style than substance.

[–] Wispy2891@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Israel 100% knew that Hamas couldn't return all the dead hostages that they "accidentally" killed when they indiscriminately carpet bombed everything. Where they would even store the bodies, in the non-existent non-refrigerated morgues? How they could even retrieve the dead bodies if it's under tons of rubble and the iof kills everyone on sight?

So now they're playing the card "they're not returning the dead hostages!!!!11!" and then can restart the final solution genocide

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

What is astounding is how much support Israel is getting from the mainstream media right now to push their narrative.

Media is framing it as if a few dead Israeli bodies are a valid excuse to starve 2 million Palestinians

The media is controlled by the same evils. Stop expecting more from them. It’s 2025 and being “astounded” by any of this shit should not be the reaction.

It’s appalling, but it’s as predictable as the rising sun.

His peace has the same quality as all his other "products": The tariffs that should save American workers' jobs, his ruthless efforts to get prices for eggs down, etc, etc...

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 114 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Why are serious journalists even calling this a cease-fire anymore? Just because Israel says it is? Even though they keep opening fire on people?

[–] Fiivemacs@lemmy.ca 36 points 2 days ago (1 children)

to get it written down that they did something 'positive' to try and manipulate history. that's it... it's lying to the future humans, or attempts at it.

[–] DeathsEmbrace@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Israel needs to force the opinion to sway their way or they would be the worst country since Hitler took over Germany. Horrible historical read if it hasn’t even been 100 years and the next Hitler is Jewish.

Edit: Just because it’s a free run cage doesnt mean its any better.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 23 points 2 days ago

It was more a pause to reload than a ceasefire. And the genocide continues.

[–] roserose56@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

You didn't read? It was and I quote "historic" what Trump did! That's what almost all news are saying, isn't it?
Like nothing was staged to look like Trump stoped an another war.
What's next for him, the Russia-Ukraine war? But how he will do it?

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

But how he will do it?

Wait until Zelenskyy wins with European backing, then claim credit while shit-talking the actual participants. I mean, come on, he's a fiddle with one string, and on that, he only knows how to play one tired tune.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

He's deffo a fiddler, a kiddie fiddler.

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago

Because they work for Israel and are part of the propaganda apparatus.

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 57 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Show me a ceasefire agreement during this conflict which Israel has not immediately and blatantly disregarded?

Israel is the biggest perpetrator of terrorism in the world. Genocidal freaks with far higher civilian kill rates than any other conflict. They aren’t going to stop this ethnic cleansing and land grab willingly, because they are demented terrorists.

[–] psycho_driver@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

They're playing Pokemon: Genocide Edition

Gotta kill em all.

[–] neuromorph@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

and now he will say it was Biden's deal all along!

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

This was just a publicity stunt because the entire world is enraged at Netanyahu and Trumpler and they were starting to get scared. Zionists have been very clear about their “final solution” nothing has changed.

[–] klammeraffe@lemmy.cafe 33 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yawn. Called it. And a big fuck you to the people who called me a doomer. Nah nah nah

[–] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Some people were stupid enough to think this was genuine? Netanyahu and his ilk were laying the groundwork to violate the agreement nearly immediately.

[–] RidderSport@feddit.org 7 points 1 day ago

Half the world leaders were like: Oh this changes everything, thank you Trump - made me want to smash my head into the nearest wall

I find it very surprising a non-shill or bot really thought “this time is different.”

[–] laranis@lemmy.zip 17 points 2 days ago

Anyone who didn't see this as the pre-Nobel publicity stunt it was is an absolute nut sack of a human being.

[–] altkey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

As long as it depends on the will of Israel alone, there won't be any safeguards against that. Only the presence of some third party, e.g. peacemaker troops from Europe, would prevent the hostilities. Just someone, anyone they would be afraid to outright bomb and, probably, one that can return fire if needed.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Europe which his major countries still side with the settler colonial power? Just look at the peacekeeper in lebanon they got attacked by both Israel and Hizbollah

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Peace only for the comfortable Kahanists, more suffering for those still suffering.

What a fucking contrast. There will be no truly peaceful settlement of the region as long as the extremists are breathing and plotting.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

Imagine being dumb enough to think some hostages being released means a much larger conflict is magically over.

[–] TheJesusaurus@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 days ago

Who could have possibly foreseen this....

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 14 points 2 days ago

Israel does not have a right to exist.

[–] teft@piefed.social 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Are you telling me that the turnip in chief didn’t end a forever war that’s been raging for thousands of years? Quelle surprise!

[–] shane@feddit.nl 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The Israeli/Palestinean issue isn't even 100 years old, although your point is still valid!

[–] teft@piefed.social -2 points 2 days ago (4 children)

I meant more the jewish peoples fighting the muslim peoples which to be fair is only like 1500 years old not a few thousand but I'm always a bit hyperbolic when I wake up.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Why are you putting muslims, arabs and palestinians in the same bag? Palestinians has nothing to do with a conflict between muslims and jews a thousand years ago . There was always conflicts between groups of people living close to each other. Also why don't you mention the periods where there was no conflicts between muslims, christians and jews? Or something like the arab countries siding with the allies against Nazi germany?

[–] shane@feddit.nl 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I mean, there wasn't a Jewish state for hundreds of years before Islam was founded, so I don't think it is really comparable.

Jews were alternately accepted or oppressed (up to and including torture and what we now call genocide) basically forever, basically everywhere. But the idea that Jews and Muslims have been at each other's throats for thousands of years is not really true, IMHO.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Through the Middle Ages, Muslims discriminated against Jews (as they did against all non-Muslim monotheists). That meant they paid higher taxes but were exempt from military service (to really get fucked with under Muslim rule, try being polytheistic or an atheist). In that same era, Christians alternated between welcoming Jews (with various restrictions) and murdering them.

On the other hand, there was a centuries-long series of conflicts between Christians and Muslims. That started with the collapse of the rotten edifice that was the Byzentine Empire, and continued with an extended period of Europe tring to overcome its factionalism in order to contain the Ottomans.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

That meant they paid higher taxes

In many western country Imigrants pays for things like education

[–] faxed@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The tax on non Muslims (jizyah) was in a way beneficial to creating a heterogenous environment. Anybody who tried to expel members of different faiths suffered an immediate loss of income and soon saw the err of their ways. And the more prosperous non-muslims are, the more tax they can pay, so it also gives a reason to take special care of them and help them to prosper.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 1 day ago

Religion is a fucking cancer

[–] faxed@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

I don't think it was really such a big deal back then beyond your kind of baseline drama and conflict humans always get up to. But not much special aminosity between these two groups.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Jews_under_Muslim_rule

Christians tend towards higher than average belligerence but don't over generalize from them.

[–] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

People fighting over which God is better is a tale as old as time.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago

Muslims and jews has the same god. You sound really ignorant

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 6 points 2 days ago

Nah its all good. He just needs to keep repeating how it worked and its all great despite what is obviously happening in front of our faces. Just like ice N junk.

[–] pticrix@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

Another low-quality, gilded thing from Trump World.
