He’s building up to pardon his partner in crime Ghislaine
It actually feels like he wants us to know he rapes kids just so he can show that no one can punish him for it.
I 100% think he will pardon Maxwell. Why? It's the most fucked up option he has in that situation.
Why can the president stand above the law? They’re talking a lot about having no kings or whatever but Trump basically is one.
Sweden is a constitutional monarchy. Our king doesn’t have as much power as Trump. Neither does our prime minister.
Neither should. That’s not how a democracy should work.
Normally, a president can't. The president is supposed to be checked by the legislative (Congress) and judicial (Supreme Court) branches of the government (president being executive).
The problem is, the other two are loyal to him so they don't check each other.
Most presidents have not had this power.
I think they are talking specifically about the power of pardon, which all other presidents certainly have had.
The government has basically been held together by a system of social norms and gentleman's agreements which Trump doesn't give two shits about. The one, singular potential good thing that might come out of this presidency is if all of these loopholes get closed as a result.
Assuming anyone who'd want to close them ever wins again.
Yeah but a lot of this I feel is do to states failing to do their jobs as well. 87% of prisoners are in state prisons, none of which the president can pardon. I assume all it would take is one state prosecutor from say Florida to look at information released thus far in the Epstein files, say this happened in Florida, and file charges against her. I assume the federal government would have to turn over all of the information they have in the Epstein case to the state prosecutor or they would be obstructing an investigation. Other evidence in the case could potentially spawn more criminal charges for others involved and they could sentence her to whatever they found necessary. Then Trump couldn't pardon her.
"Dual sovereignty" rules make it so you can be prosecuted by the state for the same thing you have been prosecuted by the federal government.
To be clear: Trump’s opponents are saying no kings. Trump & those around him are tweeting pictures and videos of him as a king. Stephen miller said Trump had “pleniary power”. His followers want him to be king.
The whole pardon thing, as well as others of the US presidential powers, are a remainder from absolutism. They thought they took the best of all worlds, by combining elements from absolutism with more democratic elements and combined them into a constitution, when in reality it was a pretty shaky construction from the beginning. And of course now it has long since gone completely rotten by deliberate corrupting the system even more than it was before.

What benefit would that do for Trump ?
I doubt it's trump being smart, but... since the 2016 election, his support from young black men has doubled. That might have something to do with him pardoning Lil Wayne, Kodak Black(pedo rapist pos), and NBA YoungBoy. He probably has some advisors picking people to pardon that will boost his abysmal reputation among certain minorities.
And it gets him the attention and headlines that he so desperately craves.
It's evil and it emboldens sexual criminals. It also is an abuse of power. Did you think more "benefits" were needed for trump?
When he pardons Maxwell he hopes it won't be a big deal because "he pardons everybody".
Discourages police from investigating sex crimes and prosecutors from charging them.
He's petty and wants to pwn the libs.

Need to keep as many sexual predators out there as possible. It is the MAGA thing to do.

There is a lot of unpredictability to Trump's behavior, except just keep this in mind and you'll never be wrong about him: if it's fucked up, he prefers to do it immediately. If it's decent, he'd rather be drawn and quartered than do it. This shit is fucking cartoon villain stuff. What possible non-evil explanation would he have for even considering this? At this point he's just reveling in his cults' defense of anything he does, no matter how heinous. The Epstein files not getting released is no problem for Republicans and neither will this pardon be.
He couldn't pardon Epstein so he's pardoning Black Epstein

What the hell else can he do to prevent being shown to be a proven pedophile!? Release the freaking Epstein files already and stop this madness. I would hate for the earth to be destroyed because one guy didn't want the world to know he diddled kids.
Heh-heh, releasing the Epstein Files would not STOP the madness, it would only fuel the fire.
I don't think it would change anything, tbh. His supporters don't care and if no one held him accountable for literal treason, they're not going to hold him accountable for raping children.
At this point the files seem like a distraction from him destroying the country.
A lot of them first got on board with the Q Anon Pedophile stuff, and Epstein was their Boogeyman back then, and somehow Trump was going to be their White Knight. That part never made sense to me, but whatever, most of MAGA doesn't. Empty G was one of those big conspiracy theory followers, and rode it right into Congress.
And that's one reason she is distancing herself a bit, because she is still strongly in the Q Anon anti-pedophile camp of MAGA. She represents a significant chunk of the following, who are being suppressed by the MAGA leadership, and ignored by the media, who are incompetent, or bought, or both.
She's going to run for president, and this is going to be one of her primary campaign promises.
I mean why not, he's giving out money to his cronies (looking at you Argentina), America first and no immigrants (South African whites are ok as are European whites, because reasons). Pardoning criminal J6rs, Maxwell in a cozy prison. What has he done to make anyone think he won't pardon terrible people.

If someone wrote a script with the things Trump is doing it would be denied by audiences as unrealistic.
