just a note: they don’t hunt humans. they are opportunistic and will include humans in their food supply if necessary. polar bears typically avoid people like other bears.

[–] kingofthezyx@lemmy.zip 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah this one certainly doesn't look like it's hunting at all - not saying it wouldn't attack him if it could get to him, but it seems a lot more curious than aggressive.

[–] PeriodicallyPedantic@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

How do the two different in appearance, in polar bears?

[–] Dashi@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Angry growl vs questioning growl. Two totally different growls. I'm sure there is a community around here that could go into more detail for you.

[–] PeriodicallyPedantic@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago

I remain skeptical. At the risk of anthropomorphizing, why would a hunting bear be "angry"?
As the dude in the video says, this is more or less what they do with seals.

With such scarce food up there, isn't it always a good time to eat if it's just a single human?

[–] realitista@lemmus.org 53 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Oh look a fresh human, no one has even opened his packaging yet!

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 35 points 3 days ago

"Hey guys, welcome to my unboxing video!" -bear

[–] BanaramaClamcrotch@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Leave him in there- they’re more valuable sealed

[–] realitista@lemmus.org 3 points 2 days ago

An avid human collector I see.

[–] prettybunnys@piefed.social 46 points 3 days ago

If you’re cold they’re cold, let him in!

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 35 points 3 days ago

Bear is like, "Damn clamshell packaging."

If it's black; fight back

If it's brown; lay down

If it's white; goodnight

[–] 1984@lemmy.today 30 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Puts human in bear habitat, gets surprised the bear shows interest. Calls it "bear hunting human".

Lols.

[–] Lommy@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

Yeah, it kinda made me feel bad. It's probably hungry af and thought it finally found some food. As i recall it's not that easy to find for them.

If not friend then why friend shaped?

[–] somegeek@programming.dev 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

WHY ARE THEY SO CUTE THEN?

[–] elvis_depresley@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think it's because they have no facial muscles, so they can't show emotion through facial expressions.

[–] somegeek@programming.dev 1 points 2 days ago

Nah their body language, shape, white fur and button eyes, paws, everything about them is cute

[–] yuriRO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 25 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If you’re cold they’re cold

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't know, that bear just wasted quite a bit of energy in an environment where it really matters.

[–] Skankhunt420@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

True, but would you have rather him killed and eaten the guy in the box?

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I was more like why is the guy there. Because I don't know the answer can't make a definitive judgement on the case. If it was just to watch a bear struggle with a cage yea fuck that. If it was to document something that is undocumentable in any other way, that is more respectable.

[–] Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

He'd set up to film near a hole in the ice where seals pop up to take a breath, but the polar bear took an interest in him instead.

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 2 points 3 days ago

thanks in that case yea bad luck, glad he was in a cage
