If you're cold they're cold. Bring them inside.

Don't. It will kill you. They aren't cuddly pets.

If not friend, why friend shaped?

Here's my Bison buddy, only -20 though

You just have a bison? Thats so cool and I don’t know why. I want to come and see it and maybe pet it.

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Is it Celsius or Fahrenheit? Actually, never mind it’s around the same anyway

[–] sbeak@sopuli.xyz 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

U.S., so I assume Fahrenheit

[–] MintyFresh@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

The two meet at -40

Hard to get a sense of scale. It looks like a giant Dark Souls boss.

[–] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 43 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Here you go, I added a bison for scale:

[–] Rainbowblite@lemmy.ca 12 points 4 weeks ago

Oh thanks, much clearer than a banana.

I once camped in the badlands, a whole horde trundled through the camp. The size of those is enormous, the shoulders where the hight of a tall human 2m.

Yet they were very gentle, it was awe inspiring.

Nah, these guys were BUILT to survive cold weather. The bison there, depending on how old it is, is anywhere from the size of a motorcycle to the size of an SUV, with a large chunk of that being straight fat and thick fur. Probably not loving it, but they'll be fine enough.

[–] cabbage@piefed.social 18 points 4 weeks ago

The fur covered in snow is a very good sign - it means it's keeping its heat well inside, with the heat that is escaping not even managing to melt the snow that's stuck to it. Wouldn't surprise me if it's actually doing alright under there.

Built to survive cold weather is an understatement.

These guys made it through the Ice Age

[–] MeThisGuy@feddit.nl 3 points 4 weeks ago

still cold af though. was in Montreal years ago for -35 (interestingly enough, the temp where F is roughly equal to C).
car battery was just about dead, and my jeans froze stiff from walking 10 mins outside.

[–] qualia@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

Plus don't forget they continuously cycle heat away from their skin & extremities via the magic of countercurrent exchange. 🌈

[–] Guillermosaenz@lemmy.world 5 points 4 weeks ago

Looks like nature forged its own ice titan. Unreal shot.

[–] criticon@lemmy.ca 17 points 4 weeks ago

Close enough to the point where it doesn't matter (-40)
