Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

If they've got a billion dollars they also own their own track and can pay other drivers to lose races against them.

Seriously, i think op doesn't understand how much a billion dollars actually is. With a billion dollars you could afford to repave every road you drive on regularly, and still have about a billion dollars left

[–] Nasan@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hell, you could invest a small fraction of that billion and your returns would allow you to keep those roads repaired long after you died.

[–] MotoAsh@piefed.social 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

nonono, you don't become a billionaire concerning yourself with what happens to others, especially after you die.

Pff, such a pleb ...

[–] Nasan@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 week ago

But, muh name on the road.

So, your statement makes sense if you remove the part about a billion dollars.

Brother, with a billion dollars I'd buy a yacht in a desert.

Don't act like youuu don't know.

[–] MarriedCavelady50@lemmy.ml 15 points 1 week ago

Have you seen undeveloped countries? The billionaires there are doing peachy.

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 week ago

Umm…. Yes it does.

Still better than driving over potholes with an empty bank account and a Camry.

[–] Goodlucksil@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The logical thing to do is get a private company to fix up those potholes for you with your wealth.

It's to turn all of the roads you care about into toll roads, except for you because you need to use the road for business reasons so that's exempt.

Billionaires don't drive on the same roads as us peasants.

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 1 points 1 week ago

Roads in the air (private jets)?

Ah, so you’ve been to Colorado.

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 2 points 1 week ago

What? I have a billion dollars.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

Simple. You keep your Ferrari on your private island with your private racetrack, and keep your G Wagon at your house when you spend 2-3 weeks there a year.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

At a certain price point cars are mundane and personal helicopter becomes primary mode of transportation. They don't have to care about roads if they don't use them. Like all things, Billionaires have different rules and use different services than the rest of us.

This depends how far away where they want is. I feel like down the block is impractical for a heli.

[–] Tower@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

Down the block is "send someone" territory. Hell, with that money just about anything that you don't have to, or want to, attend to personally is "send someone" territory

The Farrari part reminds me of an early (like S1) episode of Castle. "How does the Farrari drive?" "Like any other car in NYC traffic"

I actually know of a guy who lives a road over from a relative that has some sort of super low luxury car, but the county road leading to his street is so bad he has to load it on a trailer to take it anywhere.
