Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

I've never seen a perfume machine like this in my life. Regional thing maybe?

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago

I tend to see them in service stations and staff areas.

Lol, I'm sure it wouldn't take too much engineering to make one with commodity parts. Hardest part would be the long term liquid storage, I'd reckon.

Whut? Are you supposed to pay money for a singular splash of smelly water?

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It's called perfume. The good stuff can cost anywhere from an eyewatering amount to an arm, both legs, both eyes, and a kidney.

[–] Ephera@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sure, but those exist for scamming stupid rich people, do they not?

At least, there is no coin small enough that I would pay for a singular splash of smelly water.
Mainly because you'd have to pay me, if I don't know what the hell I'm gonna smell like afterwards. 🫠

well that sounds like a sad way to go through life :(

[–] Ephera@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Hell yeah. 😎

Okay, less joking about, I think it's partially like an autism thing? It just really does not sound pleasant to me, to be smoke-bombed by some pungent smell, especially if I cannot choose and especially if it's gonna stick to me for the whole day.
Might as well have a machine where you put coins in and get slapped in the face. You might consider it sad, but I'm not sad at all, that I'm not getting slapped.

you know what thats actually kinda fair, I have tried ones that smell bad and am stuck with it. There are some good ones through, you just have to find what you like

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 week ago

You may just be particularly sensitive, but it shouldn't be that strong. Teenage boys tend to go overboard, but it's supposed to be a background smell. If it's strong then the person is using too much.

He is right, you know... Perfume industry is just a bubble

[–] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

yeah but like you don't want to smell good? like you don't want people to associate a good smell with your personality?

[–] yetAnotherUser@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Afaik there are good-smelling off-brand perfumes (I'm not a perfume expert, so I could be wrong)

there are also clones of existing branded perfumes that would normally cost hundreds but they drive the price down to sub $50, with the caveat that the smell isn't exactly the same to professional sniffers and also you have less rizz with some people if you buy a chinese knockoff

[–] turbowafflz@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Technically isn't perfume usually alcohol based not water based?

[–] Ephera@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago

I have no idea. I mainly just wanted to break it down as some smelly fluid, because "perfume" makes it sound like more than that...

[–] permachillxo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

why the fingers positioned like that though the heck :0

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago

When sampling a perfume you normally spray it on the inside of your wrist.

As for why the come-hither gesture, I have no clue!
