The subpoenas, which seek records, were sent to the offices of Gov. Tim Walz, Attorney General Keith Ellison, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her and officials in Ramsey and Hennepin counties, the person said.

Walz and Frey, both Democrats, have called the probe a bullying tactic meant to quell political opposition. Frey's office released a subpoena, which requires a long list of records for a grand jury on Feb. 3, including "cooperation or lack of cooperation" with federal authorities and "any records tending to show a refusal to come to the aid of immigration officials."

Is this the lawfare I've been hearing so much about?

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Unironically.

Shame none of the Dems are taking notes

As soon as the GOP started bleating that the Biden administration were doing it to them, which they weren't (Merrick Garland was a limp-backed baby chewing on a pacifier) you just knew what was coming. Dems weren't doing it, and they expected GOP to be the same. They are not the same.

I recall members of the current administration, as well as US Congresspersons, ignoring subpoenas to appear. Just wondering what would happen if nobody responded to this shit?

The Republicans would find and use the same power that Democrats have constantly ignored.

It's not fascism, it's just fascism shaped.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It’s the concept of fascism

Can't wait for the discovery phase of this trial.

[–] toiletobserver@lemmy.world 25 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Just subpoena them back, and say you'll respond when they do.

NO U.

It'd be really interesting to see the correspondence between the Supreme Court members and the White house in a probe to determine targeted and politically motivated harassment.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 1 points 4 days ago

Not even harassment, just the difference in outcome despite established case law.

[–] SayJess@lemmy.blahaj.zone 21 points 4 days ago

Ignore it. Fuck the fascists.

"Obstruction investigation" -- yes, the investigation is obstruction.

I thought states weren't under obligation to cooperate/aid with federal law enforcement? I mean I'd demand compensation for doing so at least. We know these fuckers are used to skipping out on bills so cash payment up front.
