1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

Today OP woke up and chose violence

    [–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

If they truly wanted violence, they would have put one of the good ones in the S category

    [–] massacre@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

    I, for one, am triggered.

    [–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 59 points 2 days ago

    OP is inciting violence

The fact that people downvote this taking it seriously….

Arch belongs in good for beginners. It has an entire site dedicated to its manual

    [–] blinfabian@feddit.nl 34 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I agree with list. I set my 98 year old grandma up on Kali as her first ever computer a month ago, and she's already hacked into the Department of Energy.

Istg some of these symbols have to be made up, there can’t be that many distros with blue circle + white emblem as logo

    [–] blinfabian@feddit.nl 8 points 1 day ago

its awesome that like 99% of tech logos are mainly blue. it totally doesnt drive me insane :3 πŸ‘

I've said it before, but NixOS technically isn't bad for beginners (assuming they'll never operate another Linux distro - but let's be honest, after you learn Nix, why would you?).

Unlike other distros, you can't break Nix. You never need to reinstall. Sure, the advice you find online pertaining to FHS will confuse you, and you'll wonder why the fuck anyone would ever need to set up a "snapshot", but it won't matter.

You'll spend your days showing your friends and family your girthy flake, you'll tell them how you use home manager to create a shell script INSIDE your home.nix module so it's declarative - they wont understand, but happy that at least you're over your catboy phase.

    [–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

    you're over your catboy phase

Is there a UwUntu- or Nyarch-like NixOS fork to smoothen or eliminate the transition from catboy?

    [–] Zozano@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You can technically use Nix on another distro, does that count?

Okay since this is ragebait and Manjaro is on the top tier fuck you πŸ₯€

    [–] Narauko@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

What exactly is the problem with Manjaro? I ended up trying it, but my switch to Linux from Windows 11 has been hampered by Battlefield 6 and a few other games. Did I make the wrong choice for Linux distro?

    [–] Linearity@piefed.zip 1 points 1 day ago

Did everyone misinterpret my post? πŸ’€
I’m a Manjaro user myself and I know this tierlist is sarcastic but Manjaro being S tier implies that it’s actually bad which I disagree with :D

    [–] Kangy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

Manjaro was my first choice of distro as well. In my opinion it's not technically bad but they do so much stuff under the hood it can have its moments. And anything you want outside of their repos (on AUR) for example makes it so they don't want to support you anymore as they don't support the AUR.

I can't remember why I switched off it now but I ended up on EndeavourOS and have had a much better experience

I love your energy and enthusiasm. GTFO.

    [–] Redacted@lemmy.world 31 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Pop!_OS rises above C due to fancy window tiling but falls short of A because it has a stupid exclamation mark and unnecessary underscore in its name?

    [–] bizzle@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It feels like they want to be Panic! At the Disco

    [–] caseyweederman@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

    Pop! at the OS

    [–] rustydrd@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Putting Pop in B tier has such a chaotic energy, I can't help but respect that. It works on so many levels.

It's the fourth in Z tier

I loved how, as a beginner, Gentoo used to update all of my packages during the day, while I was working, using my 16 cores 100%. That's what I call high-level multitasking.

    [–] varnia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Updating Gentoo kept my feet warm during the night.

    [–] mech@feddit.org 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I run Slackware, which also needs compilation for additional software.
Not for me, but for my cat.

    [–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I know half of the logos.

    [–] S_H_K@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

Everyone hates Bazzite? Can't rank good even in a shitpost?

    [–] vk6flab@lemmy.radio 18 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Apparently Debian ranks lower than the distros that are based on it.

What ranking are you using to arrive at this conclusion?

    [–] blinfabian@feddit.nl 38 points 2 days ago (1 children)

snaps are awesome πŸ”₯ W ubuntu

    Yep, this list is truth.
