Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States of America. He was best known for being "Honest Abe", writing the Emancipation Proclamation, and playing RAID: Shadow Legends, an immersive online experience with everything you'd expect from a brand new RPG title. It's got an amazing storyline, awesome 3D graphics, giant boss fights, PVP battles, and hundreds of never before seen champions to collect and customize.

[–] Gsus4@mander.xyz 21 points 6 days ago

Probably it will be creepily more subliminal than that, unfortunately.

please let them actually add in message shilling PLEASE

Didn’t Sam Altman say that ads would be a last resort?

[–] turboSnail@piefed.europe.pub 68 points 6 days ago (1 children)

This simply means they’ve finally run out of money. If that doesn’t help, Apple or Microsoft will just end up buying OpenAI for pennies.

[–] XLE@piefed.social 23 points 6 days ago (2 children)

II think Microsoft is in a position where they can grab all of OpenAI's assets without giving them (more) money, if I understand the deal right

[–] MetalSlugX@piefed.social 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

That link is worthy of its own post I think. Great read.

The blog (and its audio version, the Better Offline podcast) is very good indeed - somewhere between cathartic and revelatory at all times. I'm overjoyed to hear you liked it, but it sure can be wordy. I pay for the premium newsletter, but I find myself skimping on it... But re-reading and referring to chunks of it often.

[–] turboSnail@piefed.europe.pub 2 points 5 days ago

That would be pretty spicy.

[–] Warehouse@lemmy.ca 28 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I suppose that means they've reached it.

Suffocation, no breathing

Don't give a fuck if the ads are deceiving

[–] Paradox@lemdro.id 9 points 6 days ago

Scam Altman says a lot of things. He also molests his sister

[–] Prox@lemmy.world 86 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Let the enshittification begin!

[–] very_well_lost@lemmy.world 71 points 6 days ago

That's the neat part — AI comes pre-enshittified!

[–] ReallyActuallyFrankenstein@lemmynsfw.com 62 points 6 days ago (5 children)

Crazy, I thought they'd wait until the IPO before they start going to the "bleed the users like penned cattle" phase of enshittification. They must need money sooner than they thought.

[–] Pistcow@lemmy.world 46 points 6 days ago (1 children)

That's how close we are before the bubble bursts. Plus they can never go public because they'd have to publish their numbers. A minus followed by several commas will definitely burst that bubble.

[–] coyootje@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago

One can only hope, I can't wait to see it all burn. All those shitty AI companies can go to hell as far as I'm concerned, they add no value to my life whatsoever.

[–] Croquette@sh.itjust.works 13 points 6 days ago

My uneducated guess : they are bleeding money and need to show that it is slowly stopping and the trend is reversing.

Once that is done, pipe the IPO and make bank before it crashes and burn.

[–] Deestan@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

They are speedrunning capitalism.

Next is to pass the corpses of the major IP holding companies around and sue each other and everyone for patents until nobody can afford lawyers anymore.

[–] rozodru@piefed.world 8 points 6 days ago

they do. desperately. it's been stated for awhile now.

Or at least a product worth paying for.

[–] catdog@lemmy.ml 41 points 6 days ago (3 children)

Wow I did not expect to see actual ads. The answers could just be commercially manipulative instead.

[–] ReallyActuallyFrankenstein@lemmynsfw.com 34 points 6 days ago (2 children)

They're explicitly differentiating from modifying the search results as a reason why the ads are transparent. I figure in one year they'll start to insert ads into the answer proper with a disclaimer, and then next fully integrate it.

[–] alpha1beta@piefed.social 15 points 6 days ago (1 children)

This is what I'm hoping for. That way, when the dumbest person we know copies content from ChatGPT, we'll see the ads too and know they're a dumbass!

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago (1 children)

"Look it says right here that trump never raped anyone because his penis is so large from taking these special dick pills. I'm gonna get me some so I can have a big dick too!"

[–] alpha1beta@piefed.social 2 points 6 days ago

Exactly. Maybe AI will help us return to darwinism.

[–] pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 days ago

I figure in one year they'll start to insert ads into the answer proper with a disclaimer, and then next fully integrate it.

I see you've played knifey/spoony/enshitify, before!

OpenAI: "Hire that Lemmy user now!"

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

Nah, just scrape his comment history and dump it into the machine.

[–] hummingbird@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

That would just not bring in enough. Remember that this is their last resort to prevent collapse.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 18 points 6 days ago

Those ads are really going to annoy me when I never start using that chat shit.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 5 points 5 days ago

Good. Hopefully it'll reduce usage and help speed its highly necessary death.

[–] desmosthenes@lemmy.world 11 points 6 days ago (1 children)

enshittification personified

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 7 points 6 days ago

chatgpt is not a person

[–] TheGiantKorean@lemmy.today 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Are these ads context dependent? I'd love to see what it would come up with for this.

[–] bcgm3@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

How can it possibly predict the next word in my sentence when it can't even predict where/who I want to pee??

[–] XLE@piefed.social 4 points 6 days ago

I'm sure Volkswagen and Hugo Boss will appreciate the research their ads are put next to.
