On the third hand: This is not paving the way for positive change in Iran, if anything Khamenei just became a martyr and his successor will be more powerful.
I mean, we will see about that. Maybe, that's true, maybe not. There are huge protests in that country every few months. IMO, it's a matter of time until it collapses.
It is, but not all change is positive change. The replacement could be fascism, or US vassals (setting the stage for Islamic Republic 2.0), or literally anything other than a healthy democracy, and a war of national survival does not at all bode well for the latter possibility. There is such a thing as good conditions and bad conditions for democracy.
I mean... We can guess around whether it gets better or worse. We don't yet...
Maybe, the replacement kills tens of thousands of protesters, too... Maybe, they won't...
Can I get an example of when foreign invasions have ever been good for the country being invaded? When has that ever been good for the citizens of said country?

You got me, though I'd argue they repelled a foreign invasion and did not lose to the foreign invaders. That's on me for not being explicit though

I'd say it's pretty credible, considering they've already been shot at for weeks.
Think about it this way.
Imagine MAGA takes over, starts brutalizing civilians, and creates a loyalist paramilitary forcen that loves him. Then imagine someone kills Trump. Then imagine ICE agents shooting people celebrating Trumps death.
Not saying the US is there but it's not that much of s stretch and Christofascism has everything in common with fundamentalist Islam.
Think about it this way.

This is gonna leave a Guinness World Record level of a power vacuum if the higher-ups continue to die at this rate. I wouldn't gamble on any named successor still being alive, since this seems like a decapitation strike.
Of course there won't be a named a successor. They've already openly discussed that the leadership would be shared by the highest ranking military, legislature and religious leaders until they defeat their enemy then they will hold an election.
