Fun fact about Freon: its inventor, Charles Kettering also invented leaded gasoline. I've seen him referred to as the single organism with the largest negative environmental impact in history.

Yeah, I think you're right. His page even has the quote I was thinking of

The landfill near me does this which is handy.
I don't know about your area, but my city came and evacuated the refrigerant. Part of the waste collection department. Had to call the city, super easy barely an inconvenience.
