The price of a gallon of regular gasoline climbed 31 cents in the past week, spiking to an average of $4.48 per gallon Tuesday, according to AAA, hitting the wallets of drivers after rising 50% since the war with Iran began.

The main reason drivers are paying more at the pump is because of the global energy crisis caused by the Iran war. The price of crude oil, which is the main ingredient in gasoline, has been climbing for most of the past two months because the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow passage of the Persian Gulf through which a fifth of the world’s crude oil normally passes, has effectively been shut, and oil tankers have been stranded there unable to deliver crude.

In my area it was $2.74 on the day the bombing started. It was $4.59 yesterday.

So far let's go over the things that didn't sway their core voter base:

  • extremely well documented pedophilia
  • sharp increases in the cost of living
  • baseless war
  • taxpayer funded ballroom
  • legalizing corruption
  • firing workers without cause
  • calling their voter base stupid
  • refusing town halls to even hear their constituents concerns
  • turning campaign donations into a personal slush fund
  • deregulating telecom and tech

That's the power of holding the mouthpiece of truth after epistemic collapse

Apparently didn't really sway Veteran voters either...

  • A well-known draft dodger
  • Called POWs and KIAs "suckers and losers"
  • Slashed VA funding and benefits
  • Pissed on the sanctity of Arlington National Cemetery, including assaulting Army employees, for a campaign photo-op
  • Openly stayed he's cool with lots of soldiers dying in Iran
  • Working towards instituting the draft, along with making mandatory Military Aptitude Testing in all public schools

Here's the thing: Trump knows his base.

His base cares more that he's racist towards brown people than any of the things listed.

He could literally grow devil horns, start chanting in Latin, smell of fire and brimstone and Christ himself could come down from heaven and say, "Donald Trump is the anti-Christ" and his base will still vote for him and worship him so long as he is punishing the right people.

Agreed, most of the modern Republican identity revolves around stoking unexamined hate, anxiety and fear.

I hope you have the gas bill you voted for.

"Its still not as high as it were when biden was president!!" -actual dumbfuck quote from dumbfuck MAGA

Those factors were NOT caused by that administration, they didn't cause COVID-19 pandemic that increased demand afterward, they didn't cause Ukraine-Russia war.

You know what the pedophile DID do to cause all this mess??? .... yeah.. fucking morons.

Biden wasn't the greatest president last, but let's not pretend the pedophile isn't the DIRECT cause of the entire world's problems right now.

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Biden is still the best president we've had since Obama.

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 5 points 1 day ago

It was certainly a quieter world politically... whatever this circus act MAGA loves to put on display for the world stage, basically forcing us all to watch with no refunds, is torture.

[–] Lexam@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's worth it though. Everyone knows expensive gasoline tastes better.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

Not when it's E15

[–] peanuts4life@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I feel like the current gas situation isn't as valuable a talking point to Americans as people want it to be. Rent, food, medical care, car cost, etc are all already up by similar percentages or more and Republicans still aren't rioting. They are delusional cultists.

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Republicans are the ones who get hurt by gas prices the most, since they are the ones driving big trucks for no reason.

Also it’s a concrete number they understand because they see it plastered on billboards everywhere. They can conveniently ignore rent because it’s not as “public” of a number.

[–] areakode@riskeratspizza.com 3 points 1 day ago

And more importantly, not their rent.

[–] MrMakabar@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 day ago

Winning elections in the US is about mobilizing your base. Very few people actively make a choice to vote Republican or Democrat. Most do between voting or not voting.

[–] techwooded@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

Impossible! Trump has lowered prices 600%! [sarcasm]

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Gas went up $0.10 overnight here. The big price spike is coming.

Gas here went up about $1.20 in the span of a week.

2 weeks ago i saw 1 place jump to $4.29. when I went 2 blocks down the road there was another station still at 3.89 so I filled up immediately. Within 2 days it was about 4.50 everywhere and a day later 4.99 and holding.

[–] Akh@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

The president is a child rapist…

[–] DrBob@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So much winning. I'm sick of winning. Please sir, stop winning.

[–] lost_faith@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

whining, the correct word is whining

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 3 points 1 day ago

Fucking shame.

I think we need >1000% increases to see some real progress towards total depreciation of fossil fuel infrastructure

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Record profits for the oil industry! Woohoo!

[–] HulkSmashBurgers@reddthat.com 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Maybe a silver lining to this total cluster fuck is that the US will be forced to take green energy/technology (wind, solar, nuclear) more seriously.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 hours ago

Trump's idea of solving this problem with nuclear is by threatening to nuke Iran.

[–] newton@feddit.online 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

So ?

Here are some Belgium prices

https://www.fuel-prices.eu/Belgium/ 8.11 dollar/ gallon

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You're also paying for social services with that price. We don't get squat.

[–] newton@feddit.online 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

About 65% are taxes, indeed all the advantages we have here in Belgium compared to USA is enormous.

For 40 years, the unions have achieved a lot for the workers through protests and many strikes ,wasn't easy.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

May we be a warning to the world of what will happen if you get complacent!

[–] mrmisses@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Yeah but everything else is worse now too! Oh wait
