Look how terrified they are all the time

[–] Homesnatch@lemmy.world 14 points 1 hour ago

I will NOT avoid ingesting mouse droppings.

It is my God-given right to find a rodent nest and motorboat it.

[–] borQue@lemmy.zip 58 points 4 hours ago (3 children)

Americans are the most frightened people on earth.

[–] Soulg@ani.social 4 points 4 hours ago (3 children)

No it's really only the old stupid people

[–] zeroConnection@programming.dev 9 points 43 minutes ago

stupid people

Unfortunately, that's the majority of Americans.

[–] Katana314@lemmy.world 4 points 35 minutes ago

When looking at the social anxiety epidemic across America, very much affecting young people, I’m sorry to say this is not true.

People think they’re unique in not wanting to pick up a phone to order a meal from a restaurant, but it’s everyone now. SO many people want to minimize social contact to an extreme degree. It’s part of why political opposition to rampant oppression is so lack luster.

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmy.world 30 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

Americans are afraid of each other

They're afraid of someone knocking on the door

They're afraid their boss will fire them and they will lose their health insurance

They're afraid of other countries

I spend a lot of time in the US, and I've never seen anywhere with people constantly on edge. They're so used to it that they don't notice any more

I've never seen anywhere so ruled by fear

[–] nodiratime@lemmy.world 17 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

They are afraid of people in public transit.

Their fear of others also drives them to get bigger and bigger cars, causing them to become even more detached from anyone who is not already close to them.

Everything is an arms race, and life is seen as a zero-sum game

[–] TheLunatickle@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

Well if I was standing next to someone called "FistingEnthusiast" I might be quite fearful myself!

[–] Randelung@lemmy.world 1 points 7 minutes ago

It's all consensual.

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmy.world 9 points 3 hours ago (1 children)
[–] snoons@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

That's exactly what a fisting enthusiast would say. >:(

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 1 points 3 minutes ago

Maybe they just enjoy throwing their fist in the air in solidarity at things, or just merely fist bumping people? Harmless! ✊️

Brb, gonna do a line of mouse shit

[–] A_Chilean_Cyborg@feddit.cl 26 points 7 hours ago (7 children)

Hanta has been a thing in chile since the 90s, I don't know what the fuss is about.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

distractions to keep us from a few things.

[–] fizzle@quokk.au 1 points 1 hour ago

Yeah, the irony of this kind of meme saying "I will not live in fear" and yet they quite obviously are living every day in fear of conspiracies. Anyone who has read a few sentences of commentary is aware that Hantavirus is not going to be a pandemic.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 7 points 4 hours ago

At the moment, there is no cure or vaccine. Just like with Ebola, until a few years ago when some non-African people got infected, and they suddenly whipped up something.

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 8 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

We've known about coronaviruses since the 1960s

[–] snoons@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 hours ago

Yep, and scientists were saying for just as long how easy it could mutate and cause a global pandemic so governments should be prepared. >.>

[–] KatherinaReichelt@feddit.org 2 points 3 hours ago

Isn't it obvious? There is no vaccine. We've seen human-to-human transmission even with short contacts like a flight. It's able to kill people. And we know that at least in the USA the government will not do anything to protect the people.

[–] Aedis@lemmy.world 21 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

Yup. There's also deaths from hantavirus every year in California. The problem is the variant, its the first time a lot of these countries are being exposed to the more contagious than usual form of hantavirus that in Chile & Argentina is known as Andean Hantavirus.

Chile has a long history of dealing with this and usually takes all the necessary precautions, but add some dumbass gringos (north americans and Europeans) into the mix and they basically go into a remote area and snort lines of mouse shit and then are surprised when they caught a really bad virus.

Argentina doesn't really take any precautioms afaik.

[–] A_Chilean_Cyborg@feddit.cl 8 points 7 hours ago

yes, in chile they always do campaigns, is a fact of life since forever, so for me it's quite surprising the global craze about it.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 5 hours ago

different species, variant implies its the same species but different genotype. hantaa virus of korea is a different species than sin nombre of the midwest, and andes virus. the first 2 are quite virulent.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 9 points 7 hours ago

All the losers are having sudden flare-ups of their persecution complex and are desperately using something that will never happen to create a feeling of power in their sad empty lives.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 5 hours ago

Sontaar hah, sontaarans are much more intelligent than that.

[–] mercano@lemmy.world 18 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

They both have a habit of misgendering people. At least the Sontarans do it because they’re a single-gender spices, rather than spite.

I will NOT comprehend basic science.

[–] then_three_more@lemmy.world 7 points 5 hours ago

This was said by a British politician about the UK, but it feels a lot like it applies to the US too:

I think the people of this country have had enough of experts

I can provide LIBERTY FREEDOM coffins at a discount for true patriots. Each coffin comes with an engraved American flag and a gun holster. Today's your can pre-order your LIBERTY FREEDOM coffin for $4,747.47. Don't 86 your rights!

You joke, but some gullible idiot will buy that.

I know people who get their phone service through "PureTalk" to escape the "liberals at AT&T". I'm still not sure which is the greater irony: the fact that AT&T is an extremely conservative stick in the mud Corpo of the fact that PureTalk is an MVNO whose network is provided by -- wait for it -- AT&T

I already said it doesn't matter if this virus becomes wide spread or not, US will never do another shut down - I'm fact to wipe us out just release a virus, most would rather die than stay home for a few weeks

Seems like he has a typo at the top. From the context, seems like it was meant to say:

"I will NOT protect my home."
