Here are people that embody the conscience of humanity by attempting to bring food and medicine to those suffering privation and genocide. They themselves are illegally kidnapped at sea, detained and abused by criminals. They return home to be beaten by their own police. And here we have real rules-sticklers in the comments saying that they deserved it. Incredible.

This is why I tend to just give the middle finger to the average person, and ignore their advice.

Who am I supposed to listen to? There's very few people I like enough (A NATO guy training Ukranians for example, but he likes me much less for obvious reasons).

In an airport you've got as much rights as the money you might be carrying. Possibly none. That's why I don't fly anymore.

https://www.rtve.es/noticias/20260523/cargas-ertzaintza-llegada-miembros-global-sumud-flotilla-aeropuerto-bilbao/17082962.shtml

Apparently, the flotilla members (together with the people who were waiting for them) were blocking the arrival gates, which caused the Ertzaintza (regional basque police force) to charge against them to unblock the gates.

It is unclear if the actions of the police were right and internal affairs has opened an investigation to shed light to the events.

Even if the police actions were unlawful (all to be seen), you have to be a special kind of dumb to cause this kind of disorders in a fucking airport in the Basque Country, a place that until not so long ago, was terrorized by ETA, the terrorist group.

Well, it’s also just like, what is the right time and place to stage a protest? A Spanish airport is not the seat of power driving genocide in Gaza.

The idea is to cause a problem for someone who is either responsible for the issue, or has the ability to stop it.

Disrupting the lives of ordinary people just doesn't help your cause at all.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Why were they blocking the gate?

[–] corbindallas@fedinsfw.app 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, don't understand what blocking the gates does, unless it's just disobedience

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 7 points 3 days ago

Maybe, but then they're just showing disobedience to one of the only countries in the EU that has told Israel and USA to go fuck themselves.

Who's the banshee in the background? The only cause they're advancing is tinnitus.

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 4 points 3 days ago

These people are nuts

[–] favoredponcho@lemmy.zip -1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Sounds like they created a scene…

[–] TheGoldenV@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

So off with their head of course right?

[–] calcopiritus@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They are being detained, not executed.

[–] JustJack23@slrpnk.net 4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Have you been beaten with a baton?

[–] favoredponcho@lemmy.zip -2 points 2 days ago

Are batons swords?

[–] calcopiritus@lemmy.world -1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I see 1 baton hit in the entire video. There was a second cop with a baton out, presumably for another hit. Let's say 2 then.

Batons are pretty common in crowd control scenarios. Usually cops don't hold back and just start swinging left and right.

2 baton hits are not nearly on the same level as executing them.

[–] JustJack23@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Seems disingenuous to start writing comments without even searching for more information.

Also they hit them 2 so it's ok is the dumbest argument ever.

[–] calcopiritus@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Yes. Seeing more posts, it is absolutely disproportional. And there are some videos where they absolutely maul them for basically nothing.

I commented on the post I commented on though, which has very little police violence (compared to the other ones).
