Man, he really has just always looked like the biggest loser in the world, huh? It's a shame all of his many gender-affirming surgeries didn't help

Lol you can tell exactly how enthusiastic his fiancee is.

"Huh, odd, why would he need a box truck and why is McLaren making them"

It's telling that someone who gets a windfall immediately purchases a status symbol. Almost as if the point of being rich is lost if everyone doesn't know it.

Wealth is wasted on the rich.

[–] kokesh@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

If I would get insanely rich, I would for sure buy something nice. After that I would start saving.

The McLaren F1 was a real drivers car, not a status symbol. At least when it was released, sadly it has become an overpriced collectors item today.

But I highly doubt Elon bought it because he was a car enthusiast and planned to drive it hard

Wealth is wasted on the rich, ideally it's given to those who couldn't care less about it and desire to decrease needless and avoidable suffering for all minds as much as possible.

If I were rich I’d open up a bunch of repair cafes that lost money but helped people fix their stuff and keep it out landfills and taught people valuable soldering/electronics/programming/DIY skills while bringing the community together with volunteers and cheap coffee! Ah, that’s the dream..

Socialists like yourself are filtered out before your empathy can damage the stock market

I think we might have a similar work background. Mechatronics is so much fun. To do a little of everything, CAD, 3D printing, PCB design, soldering, wood working, welding, programming and then have something functional that didn't exist before is so enjoyable. Same with upcycling like what you're saying. Seems like something that could be a feature added onto select libraries as they are fundamentally for the philanthropic sharing of knowledge.

A friend in college had an idea for a website like this kind of centered around skill sharing aka people would post skills or ask for help and trade work to better their community. Example being someone's bike is broken and then someone who is handy helps them and they get the "karma" on the website.

[–] Jimbabwe@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

It’s a cool idea! I wonder if it’d be possible to cash those karma points in for something tangible without the whole idea going to shit? Like a local shop agreeing to give a small discount to someone who earned a lot of karma on the site? Obviously not trying to reinvent capitalism or anything, but a karma barter system of some kind would be interesting if done right.

[–] cattywampus@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

It's been a while but eventually this the original idea was users would get like 100 karma automatically and then could offer X amount for help and it would be granted when help was given and then that person who earned the karma could themselves have more karma to offer possibly for a more difficult task.

My status symbol would be 1,000 acres of land with a self sufficient farm and some recreational spots, and tiny houses for lgbt people to live on.

if you're lgbt and not an asshole, come live near people who accept you for who you are, I baked cookies!

In 2000, while driving on Sand Hill Road with PayPal Inc. Co-Founder Peter Thiel to a meeting, a moment of bravado led Musk to demonstrate the car’s capabilities. “Watch this,” he said, moments before the McLaren spun out of control, flew “like a discus” 3 feet into the air and crashed. The worst part? The car wasn’t insured.

What a dipshit.

The worst part? ~~The car wasn’t insured~~They both survived.

To think how much shit the world nearly dodged.

[–] justsomeguy@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

A pivotal moment that crashed our timeline into darkness.

I'm pretty sure capitalism would have just made another Nazi the first trillionaire, and collapsed into fascism either way.

The problem is systemic; continuously rewarding sociopaths and psychopaths with wealth and power.

Because "They make the decisions the rest of us can't".

And people assume that's a good thing.

[–] newthrowaway20@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago

Damn. if only the car had exploded.

Damn hahaha id never heard that story. I knew hed bought the car though. What an idiot.

[–] notsosure@sh.itjust.works 24 points 1 day ago

This guy is so unsympathetic. He was even worse back then. But let’s keep personal assessments out of this: he is dangerous, and shouldn’t have the control and money.

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 1 day ago

Even when he was considered "normal", he was a loser. 100% she had dick on the side.

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wow he looks punchapble back then. Should've went south korea and get that punchable face fixed.

[–] danekrae@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago
