Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

A reminder that more people have been arrested over this than over the Epstein Files.

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago

Maybe those arrested should have just been millionaires and they wouldn't have had that issue.

Holy shit I thought this was a joke

[–] Fluke@feddit.uk 3 points 3 days ago

lmao

No.

The supposed "vandalism", the "long gashes made with a sharp knife", is most likely the edges of the tyres cutting into the paint by pinching it against the concrete substrate.

This orange dickhead did the damage himself because he couldn't drag his bloated, obese carcass a mere few hundred yards to pretend he knew what was being done.

Incompetence and grift is what "America" has become. A third rate has-been of a country descending into a farce that satire writers would have been ridiculed for putting on paper.

[–] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

I don't have the link but there's an entire video of it.

What a waste of water when all that water could have been wasted by an AI data center.

Joe Brandon shit in my pants, drain my pants!

[–] humorlessrepost@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

This whole project is hooking the reflecting pool up to be used for cooling the ballroom data center.

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It's going to end up in the same river it was originally removed from. They haven't used city water to fill it for a while now.

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This water is now full of chemicals, toxic algae and disintegrating epoxy though? They wouldn't just put this into a public river, wait until the EPA hears about this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fill drain, fill drain, fill drain! You have no idea the physical toll that three renovations have on a pool!

[–] Procleus@lemmy.world 13 points 5 days ago

I understood this office reference and appreciated it greatly!!!

[–] crystalmerchant@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

Snip snap snip!

[–] tigermountain@lemmy.world 45 points 5 days ago (3 children)

And exactly what will this same company that fucked it up the first time do differently this time?

[–] cecilkorik@piefed.ca 46 points 5 days ago

There will probably be even more digits on the invoice, I suspect. So that part will be different.

[–] PumaStoleMyBluff@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago (2 children)

This time we'll spend taxpayer dollars on 24/7 armed guards. Guarantees everyone has something to reflect on when they're, ya know, reflecting.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Wasnt it recently fenced up? SAD!

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 3 points 5 days ago

I hope the next guy in office forces the trump crime family to reimburse the government coffers for every taxpayer dollar he's spent on corrupt dealings

Ohio-based Green Water Solutions, also known as Greenwater Services, was given a $1.7 million contract to install a water-purification system in the Reflecting Pool

Well no wonder the water ended up green!

Are the writers even fucking trying anymore? Lazy writing.

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 28 points 5 days ago (1 children)

"troubled revamp" is such a nice way of putting it

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 days ago

Imperial media playing its role.

[–] Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca 11 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Can we please get hundreds of people down there to continuously shout "HUUUURRRRRR DUUUURRRRRRRR" until the project is finished?

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 9 points 4 days ago

Get hauled away for "domestic tewowism" because it hurt admin feelings. Lol

[–] thethrilloftime69@feddit.online 19 points 5 days ago (10 children)

I honestly struggle to understand how a pool that has been clean for decades suddenly can't be kept clean.

[–] WesternInfidels@feddit.online 13 points 5 days ago (1 children)

To be fair to the regime (there's something I never thought I'd type) the reflecting pool had been kept clean in the past by paying people (National Park Service workers) to wade out into it and clean it on the regular. Then the DOGE crew laid off a ton of Park Service personnel. Then our dear leader began howling about the green water.

This timeline may imply some details that I've got wrong, but it's hard to be sympathetic to the regime, given the general picture of its priorities it paints, which I believe is generally correct.

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 4 points 4 days ago

Yet another quietly ignored DOGE fuck-up

The grift is strong with this one. Drain and refill the swamp, robbing the treasury to do it.

[–] finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world 17 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Vandals! Stealing the algae and water! Arrest them! 100 years in prison!

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 8 points 5 days ago

Don't worry the algae will return because they've learnt nothing.

If I were on that crew, I'd be afraid I would be next on the list to be thrown under the bus. It wouldn't take much for one of them to be arrested as an Antifa terrorist saboteur when it inevitably goes to shit again.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

...A bunch of somewhat richer incompetent idiots.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Probably alao why trump wants to re-fence the wh. Another 14m contract for his buddy no doubt.

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 12 points 5 days ago

Trump came to Drain the Swamp and end wars. He's going to keep on doing it!

And no president has done those things so many times. He should get the nobel peace prize for how many times he's ended the war in Iran.

and, he had to create a literal swamp in washington so he could get to work on draining it.

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Ah that’s what he ment by draining the swamp

Cam I just address the elephant in the room here which has been sitting in the corner of my mind since this whole shitshow started: American flag blue.

Obviously, everyone knows there's only one pool lining color: blue.

Trump, thinking he's the worlds most epic salesman decided to tell everyone that he's picked the color and that he's chosen "American flag blue".

I can't decide whether it's cringey that he thinks anyone would be fooled by that, or if it's cringey because a significant portion of the public really is that stupid.

Do you now get arrested for NOT touching the water?

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

they gotta keep his fuckheaded motorcade from driving through it again too

[–] Waterpumpee@lemmus.org 6 points 5 days ago (7 children)

As a pool owner, how hard can it be to chlorinate it properly instead of draining? Also does that thing not have a filter?

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 38 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It's probably not recirculated water, just continual replenishment.

That, and the whole exercise is to funnel money to some cronies.

[–] SeeMarkFly@lemmy.ml 9 points 5 days ago (3 children)

That cash cow has plenty of milk. Do a bad job and get paid to do the bad job bad???

Where do I sign up?

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 20 points 5 days ago

This isn't your back yard pool, this is a huge body of water that attracts lots of wildlife and having heavy chlorine isn't exact great for said wildlife. Dead animals in and around this massive reflecting pool isn't exactly what you'd want.

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 16 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I might be mistaken, but I don't think the reflecting pool is chlorinated. It pulls in and dumps out water to the local natural waterways. They're supposed to be using something else (UVC?) to control tiny organisms like algae.

[–] HeyJoe@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

As others have pointed out it is not. The other part that makes this even worse is the paint used heats the water even more than before which expedites the algea growth. The water level is low which doesnt help either, but thats always been a known problem. It's just funny that if you were going to fix the pool you would think the money invested would have also been used to fix the original problems, but nope not even an attempt and here we are, tens of millions spent on absolutely nothing.
