Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Graham became well-known for his close ties with Trump, whom the senator briefly ran against for the presidential nomination in 2016.

Their relationship would begin on a rough note, with Graham calling the then-New York businessman “unfit for office.” Graham used a profanity to describe Trump after Trump made disparaging comments about Arizona Republican John McCain, Graham’s best friend in the Senate and a Vietnam War veteran.

During a campaign rally in South Carolina, Trump read out Graham’s personal cellphone number and continued to belittle him throughout the 2016 race

Graham, however, shifted significantly once Trump won the White House and emerged as one of Trump’s top allies — speaking with him frequently and becoming a regular presence on the golf course alongside the president

HAHAHAHA dumb bitch was "best friends with John McCain" and hated trump, but immediately rolled over like the lil bitch he is (was) when the fat fascist fuck came into power. Spineless coward, everything he did was to benefit himself and hurt others. Rot in hell, dipshit.

My condolences to the male escorts in the South Carolina and Washington DC areas.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 hours ago

It's probably a great relief to them.

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 2 hours ago

I might believe in god. Take a few more of these assholes ( Trump, Vance, Turtle, etc) and I will hope a church. I will become the fucking pope!

How many horcruxes does McConnell have left after this?

[–] BipolarSilence@lemmy.cafe 5 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

McConnell AND Graham?? Finally we get more gender neutral bathrooms in the US

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 111 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Old republicans dying is so hot right now

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 33 points 6 hours ago (3 children)

Careful what you wish for - younger conservatives have been crazier and have entered politics or grew up in an era where Trump was a politician. At least Graham and other remember a time when the government wasn't a completely corrupted personal project of the president.

Things can always get worse.

[–] newthrowaway20@lemmy.world 55 points 6 hours ago

At least Graham and other remember a time when the government wasn't a completely corrupted personal project of the president.

And yet he ignored all that.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 40 points 6 hours ago

Graham was the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman, he (along with McConnell, who was majority leader at the time) was directly responsible for the Republican takeover of the SCOTUS. Merrick Garland never got a confirmation vote because Graham never scheduled hearings. He made up some bullshit excuses for that, and then when RBG passed, he made some bullshit excuses to do a total 180 and get that pick approved before Trump left office.

He is just as responsible for the state of things today as Mitch was.

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 hours ago

Reminder these younger republicans are like 50. They've experienced plenty of normal politics pre-Trump

Mitch would HAVE to show up for this, and it’s going to make Weekend at Moscow Mitch way more difficult to pull off

Fuck yeah, perfect timing

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 69 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Seriously? What great news!

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 53 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

The writers dropping all those hints about Mitch was some incredible misdirection

[–] doomchapel666@lemmy.zip 18 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Wonderful way to start the day! 🎊🥳🌈. It just gets better from here! I am curious what “brief and sudden illness” this could be? Well, and is it catching?

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 8 points 6 hours ago

I hope people in the gop are especially susceptible

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 27 points 6 hours ago

Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people.

[–] teslekova@sh.itjust.works 9 points 5 hours ago

I think he died of a broken heart after Trump stopped bombing Iran. Poor bastard should have just waited.

[–] ProfessorScience@lemmy.world 44 points 7 hours ago (4 children)

I had to reread the name. This isn't about Mitch McConnell, then?

[–] grte@lemmy.ca 42 points 7 hours ago (4 children)

Maybe they fed his lifeforce to Mitch to keep him alive another year.

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 5 points 3 hours ago

Lich McConnell

[–] ProfessorScience@lemmy.world 20 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Let's hope they do two or three other old Republicans! You know, just to be safe!

[–] cmbabul@slrpnk.net 13 points 7 hours ago

Hold up, I like the idea in principle but this might actually be how we end up with Mitch McConnell the God Emperor of Mankind

Did the "brief and sudden illness" involve an open window or some poison?

[–] Ioughttamow@fedia.io 19 points 6 hours ago

Was a man with heavy eyeliner seen leaving the premises?

[–] sdcSpade@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 hours ago

I think he came down with Distractonitis, a rare disease that appears when a colleague of yours dies but it has to stay a secret.

[–] plateee@piefed.social 8 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I wonder if it's a bout of that explosive diarrhea causing parasite that's going around.

One down. Many more left to go.

[–] Ooops@feddit.org 10 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

"Close ally" my ass... Those vile creatures have no allies, and in this particular case the hatred and lots of personal insults are well documented. For a lack of concepts for normal functioning human beings -because they are none- the only thing these corrupt idiots know and understand is what lie to scream loudly at every moment of their life to get the biggest amount of power and/or money.

[–] Blackfeathr@lemmy.world 27 points 7 hours ago

Ladybugs got him

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 27 points 7 hours ago

Did his conscience finally reach up to choke the life out of his brain?

I'm trying really hard to think of an illness that takes someone out in 49hrs. And aside from a like, a heart attack, I can't really think of one.. There is that parasite in Texas but I didn't think it caused sudden death like that. Really kinda makes me lean towards poisoning or similar. Any ideas what it could be anyone?

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 13 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

Heart attack: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jul/12/lindsey-graham-key-ally-of-donald-trump-has-died-after-sudden-illness-his-office-says

Citing police scanner audio, the Washington Post newspaper reported that emergency medical services had received a call at about 8.30pm on Saturday regarding a person suffering chest pains at Graham’s home on Capitol Hill. About 25 minutes later, according to the Post, emergency personnel said CPR was in progress and a man was suffering cardiac arrest.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 9 points 5 hours ago

He had one of those?

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 8 points 5 hours ago

A Nascar driver recently died days after winning a race. Pneumonia leading to sepsis, he died within hours of becoming symptomatic.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 13 points 6 hours ago

And aside from a like, a heart attack, I can’t really think of one

You thought of one though. Also stroke, heart failure, pulmonary embolism, etc. Lots of things at his age.

Keep in mind, they lie at every turn about every possible thing.

Everything Trump touches

Sen. Lindsey Graham has won his Republican primary in South Carolina, NBC News projects, after he spent millions to secure the nomination.

...

Graham, who is in his fourth term, got a boost from President Donald Trump, who endorsed him last year...
