President Donald Trump is promising to reveal “really big news” on election security. Many Republicans wish he wouldn’t.

The president’s speech, expected to be delivered in prime time Thursday from the White House, comes amid renewed hostilities with Iran, which are once again driving up fuel prices ahead of an election that most strategists still expect to turn on cost-of-living issues.

“The people I talk to are scared shitless,” said a former Trump administration official, granted anonymity to speak candidly. “It’s not scared shitless about the text of what he’s going to say, it’s, what does he add to the text?”

Let's put our 80 year old dotard with severe dementia on national television! What could possibly go wrong?

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 53 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Meh, his base will love it.

At this point, the only thing that would be legitimately shocking for the audience would be if he had an actual aneurysm or heart attack mid-speech and died. Anything else he says or does won't move the shock needle much at all.

If he walked out on stage with no pants, sang badly for 20 minutes, fell over, and crawled away he would be greeted with thunderous applause and rabid acclaim.

So back in 2016, I tried this thing to explain why Trump was so unpresidential.

I found a picture of him, on stage, wearing tan suit pants.

I pixelated the lower half of his body. Showed it to my very-Christian aunt. she freaked out about him not wearing pants and how it was wrong of me, how it was an attack on him, how it was out of context. Everything except “hang on a second! That never happened!”

People started talking about what context was it appropriate to be pantless on stage, etc.

Which was my entire point. It never happened, but he is such a fucking creep she didn’t think twice about it. No one even questioned that he was letting it all hang out.

The “well, here’s the thing…” didn’t go over too well.

Do it again, but this time with one of the true things that has happened

[–] CuddlyCassowary@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

I would prefer that vs. everything else he’s done.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He's gonna walk onstage and yell "free ice-cream for everyone!" After he's informed that nobody brought ice-cream, he will blame the democrats

I am stoned

I am stoned

Truth is sometimes found in the buds.

[–] Asafum@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago

My maga coworkers were already talking about what time it would be on. They're grabbing their popcorn... They love this piece of shit.

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago (2 children)

If he dies on TV that would probably become the most watched video of the decade.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

The only thing that'd be better is if he could find a way to die twice.

Shitting his diaper so hard that it squirts up the front and gets on his face would do, but then we’d have to see 30% of his followers trying to mimic it.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They've been doing it for over a decade and it's worked out extremely well for them so far.

[–] 800XL@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Don't forget Republican darling Ronald Reagan, who just like the current Republican darling had a second term marred by rapidly declining mental function.

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 46 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Worse: Trump is a child rapist.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They’re not scared about what he’s going to do, they’re scared he’s going to say something stupid and embarrass them.

Did I read that right?

[–] Rakonat@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Literally every time he opens his mouth is an embarrassment. Even without opening his mouth sometimes.

[–] muzzle@lemmy.zip 29 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

If they are so scared, why don't they stop him? They are literally the only one with the power to do it.

[–] Polyphilic@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Trump can fire almost anyone he wants for almost any reason

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He can't fire senators and they are the ones that can stop this.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 3 points 2 days ago

He can fire them in the middle of 5th Avenue.

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

He's going to start an election security department to oversee elections and have it be part of the executive branch and hence (according to his supreme court, and unitary executive theory) it will be under the control Trump officials.

That'll be the end of it.

[–] neonchaos@piefed.social 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And their first order of business will be to cancel the mid-terms to "save money" and "safeguard against voter fraud". Then when the lawsuits come, he'll slip Roberts another $20 and get the court to say that Prez can do that because the Constitution doesn't explicitly say the words, "POTUS cannot cancel elections".

That or he's going to issue an EO for a federal poll tax to be paid directly to him, as a means of ensuring voter integrity.

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

That or he’s going to issue an EO for a federal poll tax to be paid directly to him, as a means of ensuring voter integrity.

So he would be checking off the 24th amendment to the Constitution as yet another amendment to violate. trump is going for the Pokemon method of fascism "Gotta violate them all".

Can't wait until I have to shelter ICE agents in my house under the penalty of law in violation of the 3rd amendment. /s

[–] bigbangdangler@reddthat.com 13 points 2 days ago

We're all scared shitless. Some of us are just slower on the uptake.

[–] Yeller_king@reddthat.com 8 points 2 days ago

Not nearly scared enough.

[–] wirebeads@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Someone out ol yeller out to pasture for good. Fuck this mango Mussolini piece of shit.

Come on America, do the 2nd amendment thing you all feel so strongly about.

[–] FullPenguin@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Something like that before midterms would be just what the GOP wants to exercise more control and cancel elections.

If it happens now, we'll all be highly suspicious of an inside job.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago

Yeah... we don't need him to become a martyr

[–] osanna@lemmy.vg 2 points 2 days ago

yep, they go on and on about their 2A rights, but when there's an actual tyrant? crickets

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You don't jump to the cartridge box....there are 3 others before it.

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Not to mention it takes time to set up paralell infrastructre/systems.

All the announcements I care about are the TRUMP-EPSTEIN FILES (TM)

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

We will guarantee free and fair election by pointing a gun to voter's heads and ensuring they vote MAGA

[–] stretch2m@infosec.pub 3 points 2 days ago

The Grim Reaper came for the wrong guy.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

The networks think Trump can stuff it
