3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

They only arrest ICE agents who fail to murder people

I think a more appropriate title would be:

[Fascist Guard of GEO Group Concentration Camp] Arrested After Shooting [Woman] Who Was Walking Away

[–] jasoman@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Attempting to murder woman walking away.

You know, I consider myself a really empathic person, but for the life of me I can't get inside this type of person's head space. Like just why? I carry lawfully, and have been road raged on while carrying. You know what was the furthest thing from my mind when that happened? This dude's knee jerk reaction! Like I never understood the "I wish a mfer would give me reason..." Even if a shooting is justified you still have to go through the courts, spend soooo much money, and hope you get a favorable outcome. These idiots really don't appreciate the responsibility carrying entails.

For a very long time, people like this have been digesting right-wing media that has convinced them that liberals and brown people are not human beings. Liberals and minorities are dangerous animals and killing such individuals is doing a service to the greater good. When ICE hires them and gives them a badge and a gun, it's the final proof that they're really the good guys and it's okay to pull the trigger.

but for the life of me I can’t get inside this type of person’s head space.

My guess is the bottom-of-the-barrel people willing to sign up to be ICE contractors knowing what the job is have previously been powerless and ignored before in their lives. Signing up with ICE gives them a uniform, a badge, limited authority, and a weapon they see as a means to force people to comply with their authority.

So when a pair of unarmed woman called him out for what he was, ignored his perceived authority, and were not intimidated by his uniform and badge, he used his state issued weapon to enforce his version of authority by shooting one as they walked away after they had emasculated him. He couldn't [let them get away with it].

Violence against woman is common among fascists.

Even if a shooting is justified you still have to go through the courts, spend soooo much money, and hope you get a favorable outcome.

That's the difference between you and them.

For the last two years, ICE and the rest of the federal government have made it pretty clear ICE employees are untouchable, legally speaking. Why wouldn't he use the force he's been granted free license to use at will. Justified or not, he genuinely believed there would be no consequences; because until now, there hasn't been.

And that just goes back to the core of fascism, and many of the "devout" religious.

When they ask what keeps an atheist from killing people, or not stealing, or any of the various "sins"... What they're actually doing is pointing out they don't understand how someone doesn't require religion to tell them right from wrong, and the threat of eternal damnation just to be a good person.

Those are the same type of people that are attracted to these positions, because of what it allows them to do. They don't understand that some (most?) people aren't bloodthirsty all the time, just waiting for an excuse.

[–] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 2 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

That is a very good point. This doesn't just require a license to kill, but the desire/mindset to use it.

Unfortunately a position like ICE employee/agent is a magnet for these types of people.

If you need the threat of punishment to prevent you from murdering someone: you're not a good person.

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

When someone asks that kind of question it just makes me realize that if not for the threat of punishment that person would be a monster.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I've been with one of these guys and it's this: they spend decades fantasizing about "getting to" kill someone. If someone breaks in or picks a fight or whatever socially acceptable reason presents itself, they will finally get to kill someone. They spend decades fantasizing about it. Then they join ice and think they'll finally get to and they're right.

[–] FirstCircle@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago

Agreed. If these ICE murderers (or murderers-in-waiting) weren't mostly poor losers, and instead were rich losers, they'd be the types to sign up for opportunities like a Sarajevo Safari. Killing for the thrill and pleasure of killing.

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 5 points 1 day ago

You gave the answer. 'Idiots'

[–] Crackhappy@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

You are the kind of person who should be carrying.

[–] Crackhappy@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

That bullshit answer by the contracting group chaps my hide.

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Arresting ICE for murder? That's pretty anti American isn't it?

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

“Contractor”. Among the many problems with privatized prisons, This guy is going to discover his employer will disown him, ice will claim “not us”, and he will not be held above the law with a presidential pardon

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

From the article:

The woman was hit in her lower body but is expected to survive.

attempted murder.
