Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

In the Baker case, he threatened the victim if she ever reported him according to the Muskingum Prosecutors Office. “I’m a retired cop,” he said. “I got pull in this town. If you don’t do what I say I’m [not] cancelling this eviction.”

He should be forced to wear his own quote in writing on his prison uniform for his 2 year sentence.

"I got pull in this town". That's rich. That would indeed be a great quote to put on his prison garb. The other inmates deserve to know about his pull.

I'm not generally in favor of rape, especially prison rape, but I'd love to see this bitch squeal.

He's going to jail just in time to play 'Hide the Turkey Leg' in jail.

It's a VERY popular game in county lockup and minimum security prisons.

[–] crandlecan@mander.xyz 2 points 1 day ago

Oh? Games? For the inmates? That's nice for the prisoners! What are the rules?

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Ex cop in for violence toward women and his pictures right there on the article. Believe me, he doesn't need to wear it on his shirt.

It's always the people you most expect.

coerced her into sexual favors

Isn't their a word for that?

third-degree felony to intimidation.

No, no, that's not it.

What, a pervy former cop with delusions of entitlement? Shocking...

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

Hmmm. So you KNOW this ain’t his first time doing this. I’ll bet he did this AS a cop.

[–] Floodedwomb@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago (4 children)

I feel like this is equally fucked up regardless of race.

The identity of the female victim was not released. A statement released by Muskingum County’s Prosecutor’s Office shows that Baker used to make racist comments about her being Black and racial slurs like the N-word to refer to the victim.

Comprehensive research on sexual harassment in housing is sparse. In one 2008 Georgia State University study found that 68% of the reported victims were Black while virtually all of the perpetrators were White men. The study’s author, Dr. Griff Tester, analyzed 137 housing sexual harassment complaints made to the Ohio Civil Rights Commission between 1990 and 2003.

it is about race though.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Race is important here because it adds yet another power dynamic to abuse

[–] phoenixarise@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Yeah, I just know he would also do this to a white woman.

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 3 points 2 days ago

I mean landlord and cop... two of the most abusive job titles... Does a little rape.

Give that old man a break, he probably just forgot that he wasn't a cop any longer.

[–] crandlecan@mander.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

Right! People are SO quick to judge 😒 The poor man needs help, not punishment!! 😡

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

Dad? This isn't meant to be funny. After I had went no contact with my dad I found out he had been doing this for years. One of the most racist bigots you would have ever met.

[–] crandlecan@mander.xyz 9 points 2 days ago (3 children)

He pleaded guilty?? That's a new one!

[–] Kaligalis@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

That's why it's not rape. They probably offered him a deal and his lawyer made him take it.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 3 points 2 days ago

Not really. Prosecutors offer plea deals all the time.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, weird. It's as if he expects a pardon from whatever corrupt slice of relevant Ohio government.

I doubt he even thinks he did anything wrong.

[–] crandlecan@mander.xyz 2 points 1 day ago

Sigh. You could even be right these days 😒
