Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

An angry mob allegedly beat them. The police charged them. The municipality voted for one of the most severe anti-trans bathroom ordinances in the country.

They say they didn’t even punch back. Still, a plea deal may help them avoid jailtime. But Sanders and Rush aren’t signing.

USA is a cesspool of psychopathy. The country disgust me more every day.

It’s our Nazi era where we allow hate to consume us. I’m trying to get out, personally.

If it makes it any better Louisiana has always been a shithole even by American standards. My grandmother's great grandmother left Louisiana way back in the day because it was too much of a dumpster fire even then. For reference my grandmother was born in 1956.

Didn't see it mentioned, (and apologies if this isn't allowed) there's a GoFundMe link spreading around for assisting towards medical and legal fees.

Thanks for sharing this

It's infuriating that the mob just went on with their day.

I do wonder what the right wing fanatics are going to say about gun control when someone shoots a would be lynch mob dead.

[–] evilcultist@sh.itjust.works 37 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Guarantee in this case it would be some BS about trans people being unhinged or the most likely mass shooters.

[–] cmbabul@slrpnk.net 22 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yep, nothing would make the Heritage foundation happier than a trans person defending themselves from mob violence with a firearm. Gives them an excuse to start provoking pogroms

[–] PRIMEcavitationfetishist@quokk.au 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Bitch what do you think they're doing? You think they can't just make some shit up when its time? Please cut this victim blaming the fuck out.

Good behavior will not save you. Making them afraid might.

[–] VeganBtw@piefed.social 5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Are you replying to the right comment? You are agreeing with what they just said here.

[–] isleepinahammock@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Read more carefully.

cmbabul basically said, "trans people shouldn't defend themselves, as that would just embolden bigots." Primecf pointed out that bigots will just make shit up, as Republicans do when they pretend every mass shooter is trans.

cmbabul is demonstrating behavior found among some allies, where they nominally support trans rights, but get really uncomfortable with the idea of a minority group defending itself with lethal violence. Minorities are meant to be protected in a parental way by the majority. Minorities are not meant to have agency of their own, certainly not in the realm of self-defense.

[–] VeganBtw@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Maybe that's the subtext, but I don't see how these two things can't be true at once :

  1. The Heritage Foundation will spin any resistance as an attack.
  2. Let's make them afraid.

To me, both comments are compatible and don't have a necessary contradiction.

[–] cmbabul@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

That’s not at all what I said, they absolutely must arm and defend themselves, but it’s delusion to think the right will not use it as a cudgel to enact even more violence.

Predicting the behavior of the enemy isn’t telling anyone they should or shouldn’t do anything.

A+ reading comprehension

[–] cmbabul@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 weeks ago

Where did I ever say they shouldn’t defend themselves? Understanding what will happen next doesn’t equate with advocating they stand down and let themselves die.

Literally everyone that ain’t a fascist should arm themselves and use those arms when their safety is in peril. Especially marginalized people. And if a fucking lynch mob is after anyone they should mow them down.

But that’s not gonna happen in a vacuum and there will at least be an attempt to utilize that as a catalyst for even more violence upon trans people. Please tell me what you think the reaction by the right will be when something like that inevitably occurs?

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

When the police is part of the mob, that's how it is.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There’s so much it’s hard to keep track but wasn’t there already a recent story about a trans person who was iirc knocked down, pulled their gun, and was then charged with brandishing or something similar?

[–] sleepdrifter@startrek.website 4 points 2 weeks ago

I remember hearing about this too, so I had to look it up, and yup. Happened in Wyoming:

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2026/06/trans-people-second-amendment-wyoming-stand-your-ground.html

[–] Krusty@quokk.au 7 points 2 weeks ago

They want it classified as a mental health issue and deny gun rights to them.

[–] datavoid@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Something something antifa radical left

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Oh yeah all America needs is a mass shooting and they'll enshrine gun control.... Like if a school ever got shot up, it would be national gun control the next day. \s

[–] BillCheddar@lemmy.world 28 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

And that's why I started carrying a gun.

I'm not trans, but I'm also not going to watch a crowd fucking beat a lady to death for peeing when I could do something about it. What are they gonna do, lock me up for defending a life? Try.

[–] killea@lemmy.world 37 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes they absolutely will. I'm not saying it wouldn't be the right thing to do and worthwhile, but they are hoping for that as an excuse to more radically escalate state violence.

[–] BillCheddar@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

If the government can take away anyone's rights, they can take away everyone's rights.

This is the line in the sand and people on our side don't get to decide if things will get violent. The fascists are going to get violent. The question is, are you getting on that first Trump Train to a concentration camp?

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

You're goddamn right. It's not "how would it happen" it's "when is it going to happen"

[–] minorkeys@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Also have a gun and kill you.

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 27 points 2 weeks ago

Louisiana is a shithole state.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This is so horrible. We should be evacuating LGBT people out of red states into blue states.

We should be blockading Nazi shit holes and drone striking their infrastructure.

[–] Corvidae@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

Religious demographics of Louisiana, 74% Christian, 4% other religions, 21% unaffiliated, according to Pew Research. Wanna take bets that mob had a high percentage of Christians? Would beating a couple of transgenders in the park be new testament treatment, or old testament? I'm thinking the latter....

Being anything other than married cousins in Louisiana gets you a daily beating.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Come to Seattle. I will personally help anyone interested to find a place.

[–] Sybilvane@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

This seems like the textbook definition of a hate crime and one of the perpetrators is the government.
